Gestures of international solidarity carry no meaning without true commitment between those expressing it in word. Too often, alliances sign treaties with the best of intentions, making strong commitments that, as history has far too often demonstrated, are broken when a true test is presented. Even the most firmly worded mutual defense pacts are vulnerable to be cast to the wayside, and some alliances have gotten wise to really getting to know who they’re getting into bed with.

The Socialist Workers Front and the Nations Empowered Against Totalitarianism are two such alliances that take the treaties they sign very seriously, refusing to sign out of convenience or, for any other reason, besides true commitment and respect for the aims, goals and personal agendas of their fellow signatories. Over time, the respective memberships of the SWF and NEAT have weighed and valued one another, getting to know one another, forging personal bonds of friendship; in fact, laying the foundation for a solid relationship that will make treaties like this and others wholly superficial and redundant. Still, a little formality never hurts to sweeten the deal.

And so, without further ado, the treaty that will serve as a formal foundation of our friendship. And permit me to say that I hope this will certainly not be the last...

Section I: Recognition of The Right to Self-Determination

The Nations Empowered Against Totalitarianism and the Socialist Workers Front recognize the fundamental rights of peace, prosperity and autonomy of their fellow signatories.

Section II: Non-Aggression and Reconciliation of Hostilities

Neither alliance shall engage in or endorse military action against the other signatory. If a nation is found in violation of this they will be ordered to offer peace and reparations, the amount of which to be decided by the signatories governments on a case-by-case basis. Defending nations are required to limit retaliation to the level of attacks received. Should an offending nation refuse to offer peace and agree on terms of reparations, as decided by their alliance's government, they will be declared a rogue and will no longer be offered the protection of either alliance. This section shall also extend to matters of espionage, or any other act that violates Section I.

Section III: Extra-territorial Aggression and Self-Defense Agreement

Pursuant to Section I, the signatories of either alliance shall be encouraged, but not necessarily obligated, to provide, in a timely manner, any support, be it military, intelligence, diplomatic, or economic assistance to one another, in times of war or peace, in a matter of defense or, as a matter of any act deemed beyond the bounds of self-defense. Either signatory is free to request any such aid, at any time, and pursuant to Section I, neither signatory shall be obligated to fulfill any such request, in whole or in part.

Section IV: Suspension and Termination of This Formal Agreement

Should either signatory find that this agreement no longer suits their own sovereign interests, it shall be obliged upon that signatory to inform their partners of this agreement of this development, in writing, with 72 hours notice before such agreement shall be formally suspended. In such extreme circumstances where it is discovered that either signatory harbors deliberate and unrequited intent to violate Section I of this agreement, no such notification waiting process shall be required, and this agreement will terminate immediately, failing the efforts of either signatory to reconcile the matter as outlined in Section II.

I resent the implication that this shininess is recent.

Indeed, it is a glory steeped in history. And I certainly haven't forgotten it. In time, others who follow the Shining Path will come to understand and appreciate the depth of such history, to better appreciate things as they are now, and to understand the Path that lies before them.

It will be glorious. And did I mention, even more shiny than before?

I look forward to a day when a treaty announcement like this would be absurd... or simply great propaganda.

Until that time, congrats!
