On the Political Culture of the FRA

The FRA is divided between a minority camp, which believes religion is the answer to life, and the majority camp who have deemed themselves non-religious, atheist, or agnostic. The political culture of the minority camp is one of homophobia, traditional family values, free market capitalism, and evangelical Christianity; the majority camp has one of tolerance, diversity, secularism, and government intervention in the economy. However, both sides agree that individualism and patriotism are American values, and that skepticism of the government and trust in the government must be balanced carefully.

The Progressive Way

TPW was established as a means to counter the evangelical practices of the American Front and of the Libertarian's incumbent President (who was not elected, he was appointed at the formation of the FRA). It focuses heavily on secularism in government, regulation of the economy to promote fairness and efficiency, public education, women's rights, and homosexual rights. It wasn't until recently that homosexuals or women had equal rights within the FRA, as the evangelicals had held Congress for a time-- abortion was illegal, and so was sodomy, during that period (the libertarians had not criminalized either act, when they lost the Congress). A stunning Progressive victory changed all of that-- abortion is legal and readily accessible, and homosexual marriage has been proposed and passed, as has polygamy. The TPW continues to use as their campaign slogan "Never again-- do not forget the injustices of the past!" to garner votes for their cause.

Libertarian Party, FRA

The LPFRA has controlled the executive branch of the FRA since its formation, due to there only being legislative elections until now. They cite that President Murphy has done a very good job in

countering foreign aggression towards North American nations, such as the Commonwealth of Texas, and has done an excellent job in maintain good relations with its neighbors. Detractors site that the LPFRA has dragged the nation into a war with two nations, and that the loss of Congress to the evangelicals, and then the progressives, proved the people's discontent with their policies. The party platform remains simply: the freedom to do as we wish, when we wish, how we wish.

American Front

The American Front was formed to pander to the large minority of people who believe in God, and believe that religion and government should be intertwined. The movement started out when the Supreme Court of the FRA ruled that Intelligent Design was not to be taught in a public science class, as it was not science. Outraged parents and congressmen from the libertarian party, began to separate from the group to form their own splinter party-- the American Front was born. The movement gained steam, as people were already disenfranchised with the LP-- it culminated in a complete victory in Congressional elections. Soon afterwards, the American Front began a legislative blitz-- criminalizing abortion and sodomy, and instituting marriage bans. They attempted to create laws in violation of the courts decisions, which were over-turned time and again. The death penalty was re-instated in Mississippi, but was struck down as "cruel and unusual", and the AF responded by calling the Supreme Court justices "activist judges" who had a "bone to pick with god-fearing men and God Himself". The Phony War in Texas was labeled as a holy crusade, and they managed to propagate their message-- until the next elections. They were trounced by the Progressive Way (formed out of fear for American liberties being abridged, at the behest of the AF party leaders), and fell into minority status.

Political violence in the FRA was relatively unknown until the rise of the AF. On the way up, the AF used street squads to bully, harass, and even murder the opposition, using proxy groups. Abortion doctors, homosexuals, feminists, and libertarian judges were all subject to assassination attempts and beatings. This was curbed sharply, when another splinter group of the LPFRA, the Atheist Agenda, took to the streets as well.

The Atheist Agenda

The AA, like the Progressive Way, was formed to counter-act the American Front's Christo-fascist policies. They soon denounced the Progressive Way as "spine-less Liberals", and set on with their goal of eradicating religion from public life. They oppose Christmas, Hanukkah, and Ramadan celebrations in public, they oppose prayer in school-- even by students, and they oppose church exemption from taxation.

Political violence by the Atheist Agenda started out as reactionary to the AF's brownshirt tactics. Assassination of AF officials was commonplace, and vice versa. But beyond that, they expanded their activities to arson-- destroying churches, synagogues, mosques, temples, any religious institution they could target-- they would. With the decline of the AF, the Atheist Agenda carried out these attacks until the Progressive Way began to clamp down on them. Many of the Atheist Agenda's members floated over to the Progressive Way, because of this extremism.

Even so, the Atheist Agenda is the nation's fourth largest political party.

The Green Initiative

The GI has been around since the formation of the Republic, as a voice of moderation to the Libertarian Party FRA. In Congress, they've sponsored many environmentalist bills, and even managed to get several of them passed with political maneuvering. With the rise of the American Front, the Green Initiative took the side of the Progressive Way, often telling their constituents to vote for TPW candidates, instead of taking the AA's path of violence and terrorism.

OOC: For the record, I null voted.

OOC: I have no clue. I don't own any islands. If you are Louisiana, than we had a dispute over islands and my defensive line.

And oops, that was a pretty big $%&@ up. My bad.

IC:

The American Front spokeswoman, Kiley Rothschild, had this to say:

The Green Party once again proves to be nothing more than the discredited hippies that they are. I wonder how much marijuana they consumed to manage that?

The Green Initiative spokesman, Harold Kunst, replied:

For people who cannot get our party name correct, the Christo-Fascists seem awfully hung up on a small error. We apologize to the political and international community, for submitting a wrong report. We have submitted that it be corrected. We stand behind the homosexuals of the FRA, and so does the majority of the citizenry.

OOC: No, I've only owned Mississippi and Alabama.

IC:

Mrs. Rothschild,

God is on our side, and He will judge you accordingly. We don't need to respect our fellow citizens, we are Christians first-- Americans second. We recognize God's law is above Man's, and we worry about the souls of your people.

"The American Front has apparently completely thrown out the teachings of the New Testament from the information available--but the Atheist Agenda is hardly any more civilized than they are. Despite its Secular leanings, The Progressive Way seems to actually be the best of the options."

~Christian Coalition of Churches

A Progressive Way spokesman, Hans Liebgott, had this to say:

The secular position of the Progressive Way is in correspondence with both the majority of people in our country, who are non-theists, as well as the idea that government and religion shouldn't mix. Unlike the Atheist Agenda, we have absolutely no interest in restricting religion in the private life of our citizenry. Many of our politicians are themselves theists, majority Christians amongst the theists, and we have no anti-religion agenda.

In laymen's terms, you could say that Christianity is all groovy with us, as long as we aren't using it as a basis for social policy.

Thanks for your input, and we agree that the American Front are awfully inconsistent... but I have a clear and present bias.

Support in the Federation is heavily in favor of the Atheist Agenda as almost 85% of the citizens in the Federation are non-religious, and the other 15% are Pastafarian.

The Atheist Agenda candidate, Nikolai Kunis (the AA rejects spokespersons, for clarity's sake), made a statement towards the Federation and the international community.

We are pleased that a such a large majority of our benefactors' population has not been indoctrinated by the poison emanating from the churches, the synagogues, the mosques, the temples of these snake oil salesmen, and a minority have accepted the FSM as their deity. Ramen!

Neighbors who share our views can only be a good thing.

For a day, the flag of the Federation was flown in solidarity at the political HQ of the AA, alongside a scarlet "A"

President Ned of Nedland, himself an atheist, has this to say to the Atheist Agenda Party in the FRA:

"You are no better than the Christo-Fascists. While I agree with you that religion often has negative consequences, it is simply not right to commit acts of terrorism against peaceful religious groups. By doing so, you are reducing yourselves to the level of the Religious Right, and thus are proving yourselves to be no better of an alternative than they are."

Ned also denounced the American Front Party:

"These fascists pretty much embody all that is bad in society. Let us hope that the people of the FRA do not make the mistake of supporting them in this election. To do so would be to invite a reactionary era embodied by human rights violations, religious persecution, and social darwinism upon the citizens of the FRA."

President Ned finished his commentary by declaring support for the Progressive Way party:

"This party is the path to the future for the FRA! While I'm in no position to be speaking in authority over the people of the FRA, they would do well to vote for the Progressive Way and bring about a more tolerant, equal, and rational future."

Nikolai Kunis on the condemnation of violence,

Appeasers need not apply. No better than the Christo-fascists? Poppycock! They began the march towards regressive social policies, towards limiting our rights and the rights of all Americans! Their reign in Congress was one of utter tyranny, one marked by brownshirt tactics. These brownshirt tactics prompted us to respond, out of fear for our lives and our liberty! Give us liberty, or give us death, we said! We regained our liberties, and many died fighting for them. If it weren't for us, the Progressive would've been another party curbstomped, shot at, and terrorized by extremist factions of the un-American Front, and their legislative victory would've been short-lived.

We didn't fire the first shot. As for those who set out from our fold and murdered religious folk-- they aren't associated with us any longer. That, and the religious folk in question were appeasers for the Christian fundamentalists.

I'm not going to shed any tears for people who allow the regression of society, the rollback of civil rights, to go uncontested, or even support it.

The American Front had nothing to say to, in their words, a "heathen, a peril to this earth, and denier of the glory of God."

Hans Liebgott, Progressive Way spokesman:

We agree with the sentiments expressed by President Ned in regards to the terror-supporters and the Evangelicals. Both are violent and detrimental to our society. The Atheists can harp on about how they "saved" us from being another failed party, attacked and terrorized, but they fail to mention that after elements of their group deliberately murdered religious people for their faith, their mainstream supporters switched over to us. We are the party that saved the FRA, after the failure of Libertarianism and of the tyranny of the American Front. We are the Progressive Way.

OOC: As I am unfamiliar with the other means in which people conduct elections, I remember Uberstein mentioned die rolls, I'm just going to go directly off of the poll results.

IC: End of the primaries in the FRA, the people have selected which two parties will move on to the Presidential election, and the House results.

The Progressive Way [33.33%]

Libertarian Party, FRA [16.67%]

American Front [16.67%]

The Atheist Agenda [20.83%]

The Green Initiative [12.50%]

The Atheist Agenda and the Progressive Way will now go on to the last round of elections for the presidency.
