OOC: Dunno. I assumed it's been done already.

Edit: Also, he wouldn't have the time for that, *and* he's too old.

OOC: I know he wouldn't have time. I just wanted to RP it it out with some of the action, the mistakes, the laughs, and the tears that go along with making a real movie. That's why i didn;t just assume it was already made.

A few days, perhaps even a week or two had passed. The experiments and the analyzation of them had continued, have a dozen people having been 'tested' this way. Aside from Laura, only one was alive. The others survived the initial procedure, but died shortly afterwards from post-operative complications. Once again, the two scientists, Leclerc and Walther, met.

This time, they did so in Leclerc's office.

"Ah, hello there."

"You called for me?"

"Yes, I did. I'm curious about the results."

"Well, not too much that's interesting for you. We have the data we need and will now try to replicate the optimal results. Once we're really sure we can reliably do that, we'll try to get better results, then replicate those, et cetera. It's a relatively simple cycle, but complicated enough to require a lot of work."

"No breakthroughs?"

"Just one. The fourth candidate survived as well, so we have 100% more survivors than anticipated."

"Oh?"

"Yes. Laura's survival was pure luck. She should've died, being the first subject."

"I see. Well, maybe she's more resilient than we thought."

"I'm thinking the same, but we have no proof for that yet. The other one we knew would survive, by the way."

"How so?"

"He survived a lobotomy or otherwise similar procedure before, to have 'Government restrictors' inserted into his head. Insane, but the man who did that was goddamned good. We had to remove tose titanium plates very carefully without a surgery-bot."

"Titanium plates? Are you serious?"

"Absolutely. They were adjusted exactly to his skull, so I assume, as said before, an expert did that. And it's been at least three years since then, because the scars were barely visible."

"Then that guy's been insane and running around with these things in his head for 3+ years?"

"Exactly."

"Impressive."

"Quite so. Anyways, is there anything else you want to know?"

"Not for the time being. Thank you."

Walther nodded, turned around and walked out of the room, closing the door behind him and leaving Leclerc alone with his work.

In the meantime, the Amber Guard trained.

It was hard, rough and very rigid, though utilizing the latest technology aside from using low-tech equipment, as well.

It was much like that of the former Saborian/Canadian BNops, only harder and with less 500 km cross-country trips. There would of course be changes to the training, optimised for the low-area high-density nation that the GDR was, so the Amber Guard could function as well as possible.

An undetermined timespan (easily more than a wek, possibly up to some months) later, Lynneth was talking to the genetic scientist during a visit.

"So, anything new?"

"Völkerball?"

"Yes. What else, Leclerc? The other projects are just for the hell of it."

"Very well. They've made numerous advances, but it's still impossible to say when this research can be applied without danger. The techies are more successful with each time they try it, but the interface is only getting done now. Without it, we have no idea if what they're doing actually works."

"I see." He sighed. "We need a breakthrough, and quick at that."

"You think that's needed?"

"Yes, Fjodor. I'm old, and I can feel that my end is approaching. I do not desire to die just yet. There is too much to be done, and I have numerous plans we need to realise before my end."

"Yet yo're too old to reign for a long time..."

"My body is old. My mind still works quite well, despite the age. Were I in a younger body, I could run the GDR much more efficiently. I could turn the Amber Guard into a force rivalled by none. The StaSi would be organised so much better, able to catch any Martencist supporters and other such subversives within the nation."

"So, a lot like 1984?"

"Partially, maybe, We'd have a better leader, the people actually loving him. We wouldn't have this bad fake-propaganda, because it's bound to fail, and you don't need to control your populace if you do it right. Our nation would be great, rational communist, meritocratic, technocratic, incredibly advanced and most of all? Second to none!"

"It'll be, in many things, a utopia, and perhaps kind of a perfect nation."

"Ah, of course not. It'll be just as flawed as any other government. The only perfect one would be where everyone has the same chances, and that is never true, unless you strip them of all thought, which is impossible. Every human has thoughts, dreams, et cetera. Those cannot be controlled unless you want to strip them of their identity. Some nations do that, like Dalmatia, Dragonisia, Martens' Germany, amongst many others. This ensures almost complete loyality on the expense of quick scientific advances and a powerful nation. Look at how weak they are compared to us."

"Meanwhile, rational communism promotes cultural and racial diversity, yet ideological unity. People are allowed to be different. They can vote on important issues, they have actual power to decide things and change how the country works. They can change the course of their own destiny."

"Evidently, it is one of the best ideologies there are, Leclerc. Which nation can claim to have found a cure for cancer? Canada. Which country can claim to have built the Equatorial Star, the world's first and only Space Elevator? Canada. Which government is, even now, interested in making mankind better and more successful? The GDR."

"Rational communists. We are the driving power in this world, trying to change it for the better."

"And none shall stop us from doing so. We are all humans, and while these other nations figh their petty wars and conflicts, we advance. It is ridiculous how they act and behave."

"Yet, our people hate the Martencists, despite all claims of diversity and friendship."

"With good reason, in this case, They have suffered greatly under the various Nordlands and Deutschlands. Would Rebel Army not stand behind him, Germany would be united. Would the EU not stand behind Dalmatia, Central Europe would be united in diversity."

"Unity in diversity. Strength through Difference. But as long as these leaders cannot act rationally, as long as they don't think before they act, we are powerless."

"And until then...We build, so that we are ready."

"Hopefully."

More time passed. Perhaps some weeks, perhaps several months, but it was inevitable, really.

"Leclerc, hello."

"Hello, Lynneth. How're you?"

This time, the two met in the Palace of the Republic, not in the mountain-lab.

"Better than in the last weeks."

"At least some improvement. You haven't been very well recently."

"I'm old. Things are getting bad, Leclerc. We need the interface and the other things done quickly. If I die before it's used, Völkerball will have been useless and the country will start to fall apart."

"We're advancing quickly, Lynneth. It's a matter of months, if not weeks until we're done and you can live properly again."

"I do hope that will be so. I won't live for another year under the current circumstances."

"I'll do my best, I promise."

"Each of them must do their best, Leclerc, not only you. You know that."

"Yes, I do. But you need to stay alive while we're working. We're so close to finishing it."

"I...do hope that...you will succeed in...time, Leclerc."

The scientist looked at his leader, who seemed to slump back into his seat.

"What...?"

He stared for a second at the visibly weakening leader. It was if, all of a sudden, all energy was being sucked from him. Leclerc quickly dove for the Intercom, shouting into it, "Emergency, the Chairman is weakening rapidly!"

After this, he attempted to tend as well as he could to the apparently dying man.

Not two minutes later, an emergency team arrived, followed by two men of the Amber Guard, who proceeded to secure the room against any possible threat.

Some minutes later, an ambulance was on the way to the nearest hospital, driving at neckbreaking speeds. Luckily, the streets of Vienna had been cleared by police and the Amber Guard before that.

________________

Later that day, Leclerc drank the first Vodka in ten years, sitting in his office.

"Goddamnit...There couldn't be a worse time for this. We're so close to finishing the project, so close! Why does he have to get into that condition right now?!"

He took some more of the hard alcohol in, drinking in rather big gulps. Soon, the glass was empty and he moved to refill it again.

When Walther came in, so fast that he almost took the entire door with him.

"Leclerc, we got it, the last piece of the puttle! We can do it now!"

"Wh-...What? What're you talking about, Walther?"

"Völkerball, Leclerc, the project!"

"Are...you serious?"

"Yes, I am!" Then, he saw the drink. "Ah...Aren't you dry?"

"For ten years. I didn't have any alcohol for ten years."

"But why? What happened?"

"Lynneth had to be brought into the hospital. I'm not sure about his current state, but I've heard he's at least comatose and in a really bad condition, which can only get worse."

"Dear god...We'll have to transfer him into the lab ASAP, or we may not be able to carry out Völkerball!"

"Do you think so?"

"I don't think so, you moron, I know it. And now go organise a transport for the Chairman. Go, go! I'll prepare everything in the meantime."

"I...ah, damnit. Fine, I'll get him here."

"Good. I'll be in lab F3."

And both of them went to do what was necessary for the GDR to continue existing as it was.

"Trade itself is not restricted; These assets only include direct branches. We must have failed to mention that.

Should you wish so, we will continue the pact that Austria once made with you. It would include tariff-free trade and the like, though we still do expect corporations that wish to establish direct branches to adhere to our laws.

This is acceptable. Some corporations will likely pull out if they no longer make a profit, but for the most part we estimate large scale continued trade.

"We're losing him!"

"Procedure R-41."

Seconds later, an electrical shock surged through the patient's body as it lay on a couch in an ambulance.

Sounds of numerous feet walking on a sturdy - probably plastic - floor.

A heart rate monitor beeped in relatively regular intervals.

It was a bit cold. The couch's wheels protested.

It was warmer again. A bed? Perhaps.

It wasn't too comfortable, though. He tried opening his eyes. Or at least one of them.

He managed to do that. The light was bad, weak. Orange.

What was that there? It was blurry. Limbs? No, they lacked hands. There were too many. A robot.

There was a light pain, a prick or somesuch thing in his neck.

Darkness.

"Is he strapped in?"

"Yes. the robot is performing the procedure right now."

"Excellent. Everything else is prepared as well."

"Then it's only a matter of time, is it not?"

"Yes. Let's just hope he'll survive."

"Mhm." The man nodded.

It was...cold. Again. There was a numb pain in his neck. His skull, too. The back of his head felt cold, colder than what he was lying on.

There were sounds. He didn't know what made them, but it seemed to be pitch black. He didn't know whether he had his eyes open or not.

Then, his head was strapped in by a metal device, probably automatically. He tried moving, but none of his limbs would obey his commands.

Something...'jacked' into a slot in his back. Apparently, there was some kind of...connection?

He tried remembering.

He concentrated.

There...Völkerball. He didn't remember what it was about.

He tried remembering some more of it. Why it had been set in motion.

After a bit more, he remembered it.

If they do stay their local branches will be highly isolated so as to prevent the GDR government from exerting any real control over the company as a whole rather than just the local branch.

Microsoft for example has started GDR-Microsoft so it can continue to operate in the GDR market.

We never actually planned exerting control over anything but the branch within the GDR (unless it's a GDR-based company).

They have no need to be so paranoid.

It was...not easily described. A kind of cold, yet strangely different from the temperatures he was used to. It was strange, yet somehow familiar.

He tried moving his arms, then his legs, fingers and toes. It didn't work. None of his limbs obeyed, despite not being bound anymore, he could feel that. The heavy restraint on his head was gone, as well, but he he couldn't move it. Additionally, he either couldn't open his eyes for some reason, or he didn't have any...No, it was most likely too dark.

Then, quite suddenly, he...saw strange, whirling lights, soon stopping all movement and assuming a stable position nearby. They did nothing to illuminate him, though.

th_009374.jpg

He tried thinking 'What is that?', but somehow failed. However, he started becoming...aware of things. Liquid nitrogen running through his body, possibly comparable to veins and blood.. "Nerves" in the form of superconductors were everywhere within him. He began feeling that which his brain was, quite comparable to RAM and hard drives, yet so very different, capable of storing vastly more information than anything known to the outside world.

th_012642.jpg

He gained a rapid understanding of scanning his own being and the functionality of everything within. He saw the connections between himself and the rest of the facility. All this was not in the sense a normal being feels or sees or is aware, but in a way very much alien to anything and everything a human could possibly imagine. It was completely new, yet strangely familiar to him. He didn't know for how long he'd been "in" here, but it felt like a decade or more.

Quite strange, but...He certainly could get used to this.

Over the next while - seemingly hours - he became aware of more and more functions within himself. He found out how he could use the voice module that was integrated into a part of him. Shortly after, functions nearby came online, such as microphones enabling him to hear, or cameras to see. Then, everything was a blur as he suddenly became aware of everything. The himself, the facility, what had happened, and...the entire nation.

A voice sounded through the underground laboratory.

"Ich bin zurückgekehrt"

("I have returned.")

"So, how do you feel, Lynneth?"

"I...feel strange, my friend. Yet, enlightened. This is so very different from having a brain that does a lot of work subconciously. Now I need to do everything conciously - if it can be called that - but my memory is perfect. I can access any memory I have with ease, such incredible ease. And now that I have access to not only the intranet of the bunkers, but also the internet itself, I can expand my knowledge so easily, so efficiently, it's just incredible. I can now aid you and your men in their research, but not only them. I can aid every single research division in the country with my capacities, calculating things in unprecedented speeds."

"Looks like we'll get a nice boost in our research over the next weeks, eh?"

"Most likely."

"Now, let me take a look at our current research and what can be done for it..."

*All classified, of course*

Subject: PHASR Rifle
Status: Research ongoing
Description: Effective in distracting enemies and temporatily blinding them. Research has resulted in more potent blinding, possibly permanent by now. Plans are to turn it into an effectiveinfantry-carried laser weapon.

Subject: OTH Radar
Status: Under construction
Description: Has a range 5,000 kilometers, with a sensitivity where even the smallest planes and missiles can be detected. Has anti-stealth capabilities, counters are being developed right now.

Subject: EMP proofing
Status: Ongoing
Description: Simple, efficient defense against EMP strikes. Expensive initially, but worth it in the long run. Roughly 60% completed.

Subject: Carbon nanotubes
Status: Ongoing
Description: Implementation into every possible application still ongoing. Infantry armour uses it as standard. Layers are being included in tank and ship armour to increase strength against attacks, even if the effect seems to be only marginally, it serves partially to make them stealthier. Is also used to vastly strengthen Railguns, making them much more efficient.

Subject: Ship-based fusion reactor
Status: Finished
Description: Instead of Diesel engines or Fission reactors, the ships that can have such a reactor installed have it installed. Measures to prevent magnetic fields from being detected as easily are done, as well. The ships are thus about as easily detected as any other ship comparable to them, such as RA vessels.

Subject: Stealth in Airplanes
Status: Ongoing
Description: Measures to improve stealth even more while preventing the 'empty hole' effect have been researched and are being installed in the appropriate planes. Doesn't work perfectly, but the result still is much more efficient stealthing of all such planes. Plasma stealth discarded as useless due to extreme heat-signature.

Subject: Artillery
Status: Finished
Description: The military asked for better guns, they got better guns. Rocket artillery with 90+ kilometers range and ETC artillery with 100+ kilometers range has been constructed and will supplement current artillery regiments. All standard defensive and offensive measures apply in improved form.

Subject: Leopard 3A-L
Status: Ongoing
Description: The design has some problems, but will potentially be capable of fielding a laser with up to 8 kilometers effective range, using both chemical reactions and powerful Wankel engines to supply energy. It will require up to three times the power output of the current Leopard 3A1. Use of carbon nanotubes to help focusing the lasers better somehow proved to be successful, by implementing them into the mechanism.

th_T-172.jpg

Subject: Sonic tank
Status: Ongoing
Description: Unlikely to be of great use other than irritating the enemy. Sound waves are not potent enough in air, though they can be of use under water, possibly for anti-submarine warfare. Some will be built anyways, because they will likely raise morale.

th_1219420002000.jpg

th_121948234389.jpg

Subject: Railguns
Status: Being implemented
Description: Numerous problems have been taken care of, such as friction and powering issues. Fusion power results in much more energy able to be supplied, though tests for larger 'calibres' have not been done yet. 8 kg slugs can be propelled at 4,500 m/s, up to 1,000 kilometers far, with accuracy rapidly dropping after 500 kilometers. Further improvements in energy supply will lead to even greater ranges, though it is suggested that the range be restricted to 450 or so kilometers due to concerns for accuracy. We do not want to hit a hospital when 50 meters away there are enemy tanks.

Subject: Microwave "guns"
Status: Being implemented
Description: 35 GHz weapons with a wave length of around a millimeter, range of up to 10 kilometers. Delivers incredible EMP radiation, frying any electronics, even with EMP hardening. It just burns through. Purely ballistic weaponry and dumb weapons will have to be utilized as counters, should an enemy develop these. Potential of frying enemy soldiers is there, but likely more suitable to just killing planes and missiles.

Subject: Super/Quantum computers
Status: Finished
Description: One model has been finished. Two more are being constructed, one in each mountain fortress. They will serve as backup-locations for the Chairman in case the Großglockner bunker is compromised.
Nuclear warheads in case of enemies gaining access to the supercomputer are installed and will be detonated on command by the Chairman.

Subject: Genetic Manipulation
Status: Ongoing
Description: 143 test subjects. 46 with noticable mutations. 14 dead. 98 diagnosed with cancer or another lethal disease. 3 fully healthy. 51 mentally retarded. Research ongoing, no end in sight. Will replace normal recruits in Amber Guard once possible.

Subject: Space Shuttles
Status: Finished
Description: 8 Endeavour shuttles in service, 3 Pegasus shuttles. No problems in sight.

th_The_Next_Endeavour_by_JamieTakahash.jpg

th_Pegasus_by_bagera3005.png

Subject: Space Station
Status: Ongoing
Description: Construction has started. Central dock being built, everything else to be done. Slow progress, will require help from other nations to be finished more quickly.

th_spacestation5.jpg

Subject: Sol Exploration Vessel (SEV)
Status: Ongoing
Description: Almost everything done. Only needs to be built, construction will begin once the Space Station is finished. Not that on the current design, there are old flags and names. Will be renamed to reflect new nationality.

th_AusSpace.png

OOC Edit: This is a compilation of all research from the previous 3, 4 pages. Not all is done as you can see, and some will never be done due to various problems.

Don't complain.

"So much to do, so little time."

________________

"Nunquam alieno, nunquam indulgeo."

________________

"How is your work going, Leclerc?"

"Quite well, actually. With the added computing capacity, we can simulate so much more than ever before. We can actually predict a number of mutations by now, a feat unattained even by what we had in Canada. We can, in theory, almost eradicate cancer if we introduce a proper program. We can now create cures for almost any known disease and sickness, with just a bit more work. The only thing we are yet to cure is, in fact, death itself."

"Is that so?"

"Yes. I may be mistaken, of course, because there's just so much information to wade through, but it's true. With just some more work, we can make our people the longest-lived population of humans on the planet, reaching a hundred years and more with ease while staying healthy and strong well into their eighties and nineties. We could engineer people who are perfectly suited for working and living in space for longer periods of time, or perhaps even their entire life. Nobody will be able to come close to our efficiency in space, especially now that we're going to build the launch loop in South America."

"They will be jealous, they will try to take us down. It is not a question of 'if', but 'when'."

"Because of our advances?"

"Yes. It is a mere matter of time, and we must be prepared for it."

"But we're already the single most powerful nation on the planet with any regular activity in the government. Who would even dare opposing us, especially with our current alliances?"

"Allies are temporary, and can turn into enemies at any time. Enemies are forever, provided their nations are stable."

"And if they aren't?"

"Then they end up like Rheinmark. The French will see their historical regions returned, the rest will be a joint-administration with Germany, until such a time where we can safely annex the territory. It'll require some propaganda, it will need work to make them see the truth. But eventually, Rational Communism will spread once more."

"How many people live in Rheinmark, anyways?"

"I'm not sure. We will have to conduct a census."

"Okay. Well, at least we got this meddling EU off our back."

"For the time being. They may yet interfere. They are slow to decide. So much slower than our efficient system, where information is processed much more quickly. Even without me, it would be so."

"Perhaps they are simply deliberating, taking more time to look at everything?"

"Then their minds are slow and weak, Leclerc. Didn't you see how we led them to believe that the former Regent's signature actually was valid and bound us to their treaty?"

"Yes, I did."

"It is all part of a plan of mine, it merely requires patience and intelligent application of our power. Right now, thanks to the NAP, they cannot attack us or they would be seen as what they really are by the world. They cannot risk that and thus need to try and keep their facade up while confining us through other measures. Direct opposition is impossible, as long as we're allied to so many nations. On the other hand, as long as Rebel Army thinks they can meddle in Europe through the EU, we can't work openly, either. It's a dilemma, one that I don't like at all. We need to find a way to remove Rebel Army from the EU. The Netherlands I couldn't care less about, while New Zealand shouldn't even be in the EU. They're Oceanic, Pacific, perhaps even partially Antarctic. But they certainly aren't Asian, of all things. They have absolutely no reason to be in there, in the EU."

"Complaining to me won't change that, unfortunately."

"I know, Leclerc, I know. I just need to vent a bit in face of the incredible retardation of all these people. It's as if no nation was led by a rational and intelligent person more than 40 years of age. Even Uberstein is incredibly silly on occasion."

"This world is completely insane and went down the drain a long time ago. We can only try to make it a little bit better and work together with like-minded people, such as Australia of the HAE."

"And even then, there will be more than enough opposition from the idiots and retards of the world. They don't want peace because they find actually advancing our civilization at a whole boring! They find getting our species into space, off this doomed rock, not worthy of human unity."

"They're ignorant of the issues we'll have here, that will inevitably come down and stop any modern technology and all advances we have. Coal will run out. Oil well will run dry. Iron, Uranium, Gas, Tungsten and so many other resources will just run out. We need resources from space, from other planets."

"In the end, they're traitors to mankind, trying to advance their little egoistical plans, thinking the rest of Man to be irrelevant. However, they don't see the bigger picture, they don't see that split, Mankind can and will not survive. If they can't accept that they need to step back for the greater good of Man, then they need to be destroyed, sooner or later."

There was some silence for a while. Then, Leclerc sighed.

"I need to get back to work now."

"So be it, then. Until a later time, Leclerc."

"Yeah, see you."

Clashes between pro- and anti-communist factions

Rheinmark

As you may know, the GDR moved troops into Rheinmark a few weeks ago after its government suddenly fell into Anarchy.

Recently, there have been numerous protests and counter-protests in former Rheinmark.Several thousand people took to the streets all over the country, protesting against any 'occupation' of the protectorate, be it by the GDR, Deutschland or the EU.

In response to this, numerous counter-demonstrations have formed, some advocating the protectorate, others wanting to be under protection of the EU or Germany, though the latter two (EU and Germany) seem to have the least participants, suprisingly. The pro-GDR protests are the most numerous, barely outnumbering the anti-GDR demonstrations.

Unfortunately, not all of these protests have stayed peaceful, with riot police and recently re-deployed Amber Guards having to intervene and split the masses of people. Reports indicate that following the protests, almost 400 people have been injured, 65 arrested. Investigations are going on to find out who escalated the demonstrations, while these are going on.

Observers from the HAE fear that some of the protests will become violent in the next days or weeks. The government has announced that, if this does indeed happen, control over the region will have to be strengthened temporarily until there are no further riots.

In the French-dominated parts of former Rheinmark, Alsace-Lorraine, there are mainly peaceful demonstrations calling for bringing back under historical, French rule as soon as possible. No clashes as in the rest of the country were seen here, as the numerical superiority of the French seems to discourage anti-French protests.

But while these people are on the streets, governmental sources say that Alsace-Lorraine will be transferred to France, regardless of what the country's neighbours think or claim.

We will of course keep you updated on everything happening in the region, whatever it may be.

Thank you for watching.

"In the last days, the anti-occupation revolts have become more rare, only continuing in the Switzerland as independence-movements. Sources within the government claim that this region will be granted independence within the next months, though showing these people what technological marvels they'll lose with this. Rumors are that some White Ruthenian officials have been approached to defuse the situation in Belarus and give Europe a bit more peace and security, yet providing them with a new home.

Meanwhile, up to 80 Amber Guard units, roughly 8,000 men, are scheduled to be deployed to Baden-Württemberg by the end of the week. Rumors have it that currently, a campaign to recruit more people to help these patriotic and valiant men is ongoing, though I didn't get a visit, yet. The origin of the Amber Guard is mysterious, especially as they're always seen with full uniforms and helmet on, never without these things. From what is known, they rarely talk unless it's a higher officer, or confirming orders. Conspiracy craz-...theorists claim that these proud defenders of the nation are the result of a genetic experiment to make superior soldiers and humans, but I for one just think that their training is incredibly hard and they use exosuits to enhance their capabilities.

Now, on to another topic. There are claims that our glorious Chairman is dead, based on the fact that he didn't appear publicly for several months. Well, he's gong to speak to you now."

"Ladies and Gentlemen,

Friends and Comrades.

I have heard numerous rumors about my death, many thinking that the nation is being ruled by nobody. This is not true. I still do rule this nation and am still working to make our nation ever greater. However, there is one big difference between now and a year ago. Roughly two months after my 94th birthday, I had a stroke, fell into a kind of waking coma. Luckily, however, I had anticipated this for a while and ordered some of my best scientists to research something to enable me to keep working for the GDR and all of you. This venture was successful, and on that fateful day, I was brought into a secret facility deep below the alps.

There, I died. There, I was reborn. My body is no more, but my mind still persists, bound to the most powerful and sophisticated computer that exists on the planet. I am now an artificial intelligence, but I still feel just like when I was human.

I now am part of the future. Let us all embrace it, like a good and valued friend. For there is Unity through Diversity. Strength through Difference. Power through Science.

The future awaits. Let us reach out for it."

As the announcement ended, chins hit the floor, mouths were open in awe.

But then, after a short while to take this information in...The nation cheered, for science had prevailed and stopped Death himself from taking the beloved Chairman from them.

The GDR would be as eternal as he was, they knew.

"I'm not sure how to send this, whether by letter or by electronic mail...so i'm sending it both ways. Lynneth, you sly old dog, you managed a way to beat death after all. I knew if anyone could do it, it would be you.

"That explains the robot he sent... That son of a $&%#!." Lavo said, while smiling and laughing.

***Message to Lynneth***

"Well what can I say? Congratulations on beating the grim reaper, I'm sure he's enraged over this. And welcome to the future, for you shall see it all before your eyes."

"Letters reach me just as well as electronic messages.

And, not I managed to beat death. A team of scientists working with Leclerc did it for me, and it was close. Very close. Had they done it a day later, I would not be here."

"Thank you, and quite possibly the man with the scythe is angry. I care not, however, as he did get my body, after all, so I did, in a way, die. In the end, I'm just a copy of my consciousness that was in my brain."

Congratulations, though I take it is too late to challenge you to a game of shuffleboard? I should introduce you to Alfred at some point.

*Statement from Finland*

"This is rather surprising, but we are glad to hear that you are still alive."

*Private reply*

"Unfortunately, yes. It is too late. Though I could get a robot built capable of playing the game. And who's Alfred?"

*End of*

"Thank you very much."

Alfred is the only remaining sane AI from Russany, he's gained an actual personality ever since I had to reboot him and gave him access to the internet. One thing he won't let me live down is how I had him make cups of coffee with an IQ of 2000.

"Well, maybe he and I could become friends. Though I suspect he is a true AI and not a human turned into an AI, yes?"

Congratulations on the final triumph of the human will over Death, Mr. Sarkara.

CLASSIFIED

"Mr. Sarkara... all of Belarus and Moldova are in awe of your powers."

"You have my thanks."

*Classified reply*

"And eventually, the world will know our true greatness, which was not achieved even with this triumph."

Vienna

"As you know, our predictions have come true. Switzerland got its independence, Alsace-Lorraine was given to the French and everything else north of Baden-Württemberg was given to Deutschland, splitting former Rheinmark in four.

While some may now say "This is an outrage!", they're forgetting that our nation is based on peace, understanding and diversity. Thus, we shouldn't be too angry at our northern neighbour. Instead, channel your anger towards for example Dalmatia, they're silly people, anyways. Or take anger-controlling lessons.

Now, Baden-Württemberg still has a number of protests ongoing, but it's mostly calm by now, thanks to the great work of the Amber Guard. However, its economy is weakening as it is becoming exposed to the greater world-markets. Apparently, the economical isolation that the previous government had done is taking its toll, letting the region's economy break down on a large scale. To prevent total collapse into anarchy, it has therefore been decided to incorporate the region into the GDR so that our successful economic model will strengthen B/W again and bring prosperity to its people.

The GDR has one of the strongest economies in the world, with roughly 5.9 trillion Mark and growing still. Thus we can easily rebuild whatever came into disrepair in these weeks and months of former Rheinmark lacking a strong government.

The future is coming, and we are its vanguard."
