IC:

Everything was there. The information, the shuttles, and Lynneth as well. Immediately, construction began on numerous projects, construction projects in cities being slowed to finance all this.

The King was just staring at the information, the immense amount of information being worked on by Austria's smartest.

"This is incredible..! Just incredible!"

He saw the two space shuttle types that Canada had built.

He saw the plans for Moon- and Mars bases.

th_Moonbase02.jpg

He saw the Hyperion Mk.I M (Mini) Nuclear Reactor and already concepts for a Mk.II version.

He saw the incredibly advanced MBTs, using similar yet more advanced weaponry than Austria.

th_Tank01.pngth_Tank02.png

He saw the M6-K missiles, which had been used with incredible results against even the technologic Aotearoa. So advanced, yet simple.

He saw more details about Canada's ETC weapons.

He saw the detailed maps for all possible uses.

th_239883.jpg

He saw how Canada had deceived the world and harboured almost a million people from Kyokujitsu Teikoku within their nation.

He saw the sturdy and reliable planes developed by Canada, to be massproduced instead of conserved, but also the sophisticated stealth aircraft of the nation and the SF-2 Morgan

He saw their SOSUS.

He saw the AISR .4 rifle and its uses and he saw Canada's Infanry Suit, which utilized Carbon nanotube muscles in their latest incarnation.

The very last thing he expected to see was on Leclerc's files.

Canada's genetic program. So very disturbing, only reading about it. Yes, he found it strangely interesting...

"My god...So much information..!"

Meanwhile Leclerc and Lynneth were in the Alps, near the Großglockner, where the secret laboratory was being built. Officially, the region had been quarantined because a high-security transport with extremely dangerous material got hit by falling rocks and heavily damaged.

Numerous signs were outside of this 'contaminated' zone.

th_115837.jpg

Leclerc watched the machines dig into the ground, smiling. He was wearing one of these fancy 'augmented reality' contact lenses, which showed him what everything would look like when it was done. He even saw the finished complex before him and what the future supercomputer could visualize its working routines as.

th_076638.jpgth_large_dangerroom.jpg

Then he saw the big sign of the facility before him, what it would officially be. Ultor, a newly founded corporation.

th_010874.jpg

Another grin made its way onto his face, and he really coudln't wait to start research in there.

While everyone is being silly and stupid for some reason, Austria gets !@#$ done.

Because normal guns aren't cool anymore, Austrian science has developed the first anti-personnel laser weapons. The Personnel Halting and Stimulation Response rifle (PHASR) is a non-lethal laser rifle developed by the ÖMW Weapons Research Program. Its purpose is to disorient and blind a target. It uses a two-wavelength laser and according to officials, the blindness is only temporary, though lasting for some hours as to make combatants useless in battle.

A Furion reporter sent a telegram to the Austrians, asking the question:

"If the PHASR is non-lethal, how effective will it be in a combat-situation? Why would soldiers carry an extra-weapon around, when bullets are just as effective? Or in failing that, flamethrowers?"

"The PHASR disables an enemy soldier just as effectively as shooting him, because you don't have to aim too exactly; Making sure his head is in the sights is just enough. It can also be used by snipers to disable forward scouts for later questioning.

Sure, there's situations where a normal gun would be better, but the PHASR just needs to find its niche. It's a completely new type of weapon, after all."

Construction was going at an incredibly quick pace. The caves - soon to be turned into corridors and tunnels - were going deep into and below the mountain. Even now, a human could easily survive a thermonuclear explosion in the deepest parts of these artificial caves, but once they were done, 'Ultor' would have one of the most secure locations in the entire country.

Secure enough for the King to order two similar shelters to be built under the Zugspitze and the Schneeberg.

While this construction continued, preparations were being done for great projects in space. Already, the best engineers were making the blueprints for both a space station and a ship that could travel more quickly than any other to Mars.

The station would also include facilities to assemble ships directly in space. The King planned to have the first real space-navy in the solar system.

On public channels, the space program was announced.

But so much more needed to be done.

"When is this country stopping? I've been reporting so much, I didn't sleep in four days.

STOP IMPROVING, AUSTRIA!"

The news speaker collapsed afterwards and was brought into the nearest hospital.

Afterwards, another speaker came into the picture, announcing that his colleague had actually staid up on his own will, not wanting to sleep until he had finished reporting on the latest improvements, more of which were being done by the minute.

He also announced that recent expansions in infrastructure brought investors into the country, which in turn would benefit the economy in the long run, strengthening the country.

OOC: Bought 990 infra, am now at 14999.99, had to report that. :V

"Further construction projects have been finished, construction in the various cities going at an unprecedented pace.

The Austrian economy is booming like few others, the GDP expected to have risen from 3.2 trillion to 3.77 trillion over the course of mere months. This larger budget has prompted a slight expansion of the army, now totalling more than one and a half million men with some of the best equipment a nation can possibly have.

And while all this is happening, our Nord 'friends' in the west, east and north aren't doing anything, stagnating in their militaristic, Martencist ways.

Meanwhile, some experts claim that the Austrian economy is the world's biggest, with no other nation having as many corporations, enterprises, shops et cetera, only Rebel Army coming close in variety of goods and shops."

OOC: Bought another k infra. Have 15999.99 now, afaik the most of any CNRP nation.

"There's celebrations everywhere for the Empire! Millions are celebrating, not only in Vienna, but in the entire Empire. Everywhere the people are drinking beer, liters and liters. Even the children get some, that's how great a day this is.

It's like the Oktoberfest engulfed the entire country. I'm seeing numerous bands playing on the streets, on roofs of low buildings, almost all channels are absolutely filled with celebration-material. Just crazy.

I'm hearing reports that the Ki-...Emperor is planning to fly around in a helicopter and throw barrels of beer near the crowds. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to celebrate, too."

*Holy damn so bloody Classified it can't get classified harder*

Finally, the construction of the "Ultor" complex was completed. Leclerc was overjoyed, walking around the rooms and surveying everything. It was similar to the old Canadian lab as the blueprints had shown them, but the architect apparently had taken some liberties with the designs, trying to make it less gloomy and more cheerful. Partially, he had succeeded, but much of the complex actually looked more frightening than before.

"Great working conditions. I'll feel like a mad scientist."

"But you're already one, Leclerc," said a man walking behind him.

"True. I guess I'll have to feel like an insane villain."

"Well, at least the pope will go absolutely crazy if he finds out anything about this. The church doesn't like science trying to play god and make new species."

"True, true. But that's why this lab is so secret, Sarkara. That's why every single man that'll work in here has been checked about the very littlest things of his life and background. The only men not checked are you and me, and that's only because we initiated all this."

"Excellent. Care to tell me about your pland or do you have none at the moment?"

"Ah, I'll just redo my old work first. We need to get the guys educated and experienced with genetic manipulation. Only then can bigger projects be started, like your plans about cyborg-i-fication of some...volunteers. If these guys don't know the basics, they won't be able to make the body repel certain alloys less strongly."

"Of course. But hopefully it won't take too long."

"All depends on how eager they are to learn this stuff. I fully expect half the staff to commit suicide before the end of the second year. After that, we'll get a slow trickle of new men."

"Was it the same back in Canada?"

"Yes. After some time, our numbers were steady and didn't fluctuate as much. Some still killed themselves, but not many."

"I see...Well, let's continue the tour now."

"Yes, let's."

They continued to walk. There wasn't much to see yet, aside from the rooms in which the experiments would later live. Rght now, there wasn't much of a creepy atmosphere, but that would change in due time, as more and more experiments would be run.

Both men were highly satisfied.

"So, the lab's done, eh?"

"Indeed it is, Sarkara. The first experiment has begun as well, though I am concentrating on teaching these newbies."

"They know nothing?"

"Actually, they do know some things, but by god, do they use that knowledge in the wrong way. It's horrible to watch, so I'm teaching them how all this actually works, DNA and whatnot."

"I see...That'll take a few weeks, I imagine?"

"Up to a year, really. Depends on how fast they learn it."

"Good, good. I'll have to least you for the time being, though."

"No problem. I'll just keep working as usual."

"Do that."

"Just a question."

"Mhm?"

"Did you ever get used to being old?"

"Hm...Well, not really. I don't like being old, and I keep overestimating myself. I'm too used to being younger, stronger."

"Thank you for answering that."

"Why'd you want to know about it?"

"I was just curious. Nothing else."

"I see. Well, goodbye."

"See you."

Leclerc continued alone as Lynneth began to make his way to the exit. The scientist sighed, wondering how much longer he'd be able to work. As long as Sarkara? The man was 93 and looked like sixty, being as healthy as a fit fifty-year old man. Quite incredible, though he'd probably just collapse one day, completely our of the blue and without any warning.

It would be an incredible loss, with everything this man had stood for finally vanishing for good. The single two monuments left by him would be the SkyCity and one of mankind's greatest achievements: The Equatorial Star. A space elevator, cables with thousands of kilometers in length, weighting merely some hundred metric tons. A space station where shuttles can dock, though it mainly was intended as research station. Nothing else would be left...Well, Leclerc would of course carry some of the legacy on, but otherwise? Not much.

Saboria - and Canada - had fallen, removed from the face of earth by the very people that were united by it. Pretenders had taken its place. Disparu, Moonbossa, Helzan (which was calling itself 'Ghost in a Shell' now, quite ridiculous) and others. None were worthy, and none cared about the communist legacy that Canada gave them. How could a people change so quickly, so thoroughly? It was strange.

Leclerc sighed. He knew he'd never be able to return to Canada. Neither would Lynneth, and the old man knew it just as well. But perhaps, just perhaps, they would be able to create a "little Canada" in this massive laboratory complex. It certainly was big enough to have its own little culture in the end, being deep below the country's tallest mountain. Additionally, there was an entire mountain-range into which they could - and would - expand the lab. It could potentially grow into a nearly autonomous fortress-city under a mountain.

It reminded Leclerc of dwarves, which in turn made him chuckle.

He arrived at his office. "Work, work."

War!

The Netherlands have declared war on Lubeck, which brought the HRE and two other allies of Lubeck into the war.

In light of this, the Emperor and the Chancellor have both decided that the navy needs to be expanded to equal the might of our glorious Airforce and the Military Forces. Currently, the Navy has a mere 34 combat vessels in addition to the Verteidiger unmanned patrol boats and the Erlangen class minelayers.

It has been announced that the Navy will be more than doubled in size, with a total of 47 more ships, some of them entirely new classes, being built in the shipyards of Austria. The first eight have been started already.

According to internal sources, a battleship-class will be built, with railguns that have up to 400 kilometers range and incredible accuracy, while the other ships will be additional frigates, cruisers, destroyers and submarines. However, one Carrier will be decommissioned after the war and replaced with a Regensburg cruiser, sources citing that six carriers make for more effective organisation into Battlegroups than seven.

OOC: Can buy 81 ships ingame. Have 42 ingame right now. Will buy 39 more.

*Classified - The Classificators strike back*

Time passes.

The war in the Netherlands and Lubeck was completely irrelevant to Leclerc's interests. He didn't even know how it was going right now. As long as the HRE wssn't directly invaded, he couldn't care less. And even if it was, he was confident that security could keep attackers at bay for days, if these invaders actually found one of the three entrances into the complex, only two of which had any kind of street leading to them while the last entrance was a helicopter port with massive doorts in the side of the goddamned mountain, which also were heavily camouflaged.

Standard methods of detection were tricked and made useless, so only highly sophisticated detection methods would have a chance of finding this heliport. The two normal entrances were more obvious, but only one of them was official and had an address. This also was the most heavily defended way in, with heavy titanium-alloy bulkheads, automatic defense turrets (some of which were equipped with grenade launchers or other explosives) and numerous other measures against aggressors. Much more heavily defended than the lab back in Canada.

He looked around his office. It had three lamps, one simulating sunlight, one the moonlight, at all times. The last was a normal lamp which he could switch on and off while the two simulating lights couldn't be controlled. Those were automated, and every room in the complex had some, aside from those that occasionally needed complete darkness. He remembered that the air conditioning system worked similarly, filtering air from the outside to prevent any contamination with biological or chemical agents while keeping the temperature comfortable, yet raising and lowering it slightly according to the temperatures outside. Of course, every notable room was secured with various security measures, such as keycards, retinal scans, finger- and handprint scans, DNA scans and other such things. Leclerc's office was one of them. Some highly secure rooms had completely insane keywords for their combinations, as well, consisting of up to 30 different characters and numbers.

He sighed once more. It was time to get working again.
