So, what's the big deal about NPO reps?

No, I'm not losing the hate.

Yes, I always wanted to keep them in war [or in their case, peace mode] forever.

But I don't see a problem in letting friends and allies of the Pacifican menace make tiny nibbles in the reps.

Theory: Karma installed gigantic reps to choke the Pacifican Bank. If NPO lets their allies pay the reps then they will be free and safe. The bank is more powerful than any aspect of the NPO alliance and must be destroyed at all costs.

Reality: While I still think Karma fears the bank, I think they underestimate the size of reps here. Even before the war, the hegemony was in tatters. Remember when TPF, IRON, GGA, and others pulled up their noses and declared that they would not defend NPO? I sure do. They were only called into action after being heckled by NPO and NPO opponents alike. The New Pacific Order currently has no large friends who would be willing to relieve them of the reps. The Pacifican Bank will still struggle to breathe and NPO's smaller, friendlier allies can throw pennies at Karma. Everyone gets what they want.

I'll use a good, solid NPO ally as an example here: Invicta.

Now, when Orion, TCB, and TAB lobbed nukes against Invicta in the last war, Invicta lost a lot of firepower. Infrastructure levels fell dramatically in their middle range, as Manhattan Projects tore up their alliance. By all accounts, they were stunned by the move. I recall a lot of flaming in the various Invicta & TCB threads. Despite their weakened state, I'm sure that Invicta has begged Karma repeatedly to let Invicta fund atleast a couple of million dollars towards the payments. When pressed with the option of white peace, they initially refused and demanded that NPO be allowed peace as well [if you query their gov, they will confirm this]. This is an alliance that cares so much about NPO that they will do whatever they can. They understand the rest of the world [including myself] goes "lolpurple" and calls them meatshields, but they don't care. They just want to show some support to their allies.

In my opinion, it would be wise for Karma to relax their unwritten blockade against NPO. Large alliances like IRON and GGA aren't going to save them, and their true friends like Invicta are too small to do serious payments and really just want to show support. I say, let these alliances show some support. If you're going to give half the hegemony white peace you might as well let one or two alliances do a kind act. The world isn't going to end, and you're not going to fall into the next LUE-esque trap.

Actually, Invicta didn't take a lot of damage in the war. Our midrange was damaged, largely by FOK incidentally (not the three you mention), but we rebuilt it ourselves as our large nations didn't take much of a hit at all; I went from 8.7K infra to 7.1K infra despite fighting 3v1 for most of the war, and 6v1 after TOP entered. I still had leftover warchest to jump back to 8K the day we got peace.

We did a lot more damage than we took though, thanks mostly to having a significant tech edge on all our opponents (besides TOP, obviously). Those graphs are from the three nations I attacked (I did trivial damage to TOP as I was turtling and we weren't nuking them; pretty much just CMs). I think I was one of the better performers, but TCB's #1 lost a pile of NS as he was the only nation in range for our top 3 out of all the alliances at war with us (Orion's #1 was also in range, but was in peace mode for the whole war due to a 44M warchest; TAB had nobody in range of them at all), and he got tripleteamed very roughly (two of our top 3 were on the night they DoWed us, and blitzed him into anarchy before he even got to his nation).

We're now significantly larger than we were prewar, thanks in part to the Nebula-X merger, but mostly due to the fact that our tech program has sped up a whole bunch (people discovered how awesome tech is in war).

However, yes, we're nowhere near the size of people like IRON. We just aren't a huge alliance. We can't move billions, as they say in the GGA. But we couldn't do that before the war either. :) We helped rebuild BAPS, but they have a few dozen nations; like we helped rebuild USN after the GATO war. NPO is a whole other story.

I think your characterization of Invicta's attitude towards NPO is basically fair. We do like them. Sure, we've had our ups and downs. And I know a lot of people think we're their lackeys or what-have-you. But that's really not it. It's just that NPO was there for us at times in our history when we needed them. I can't defend everything they've ever done. But I think a lot of people can say that about friends, right? And, yeah, we probably would help them if we could. And, yeah, because of our size relative to the reps owed our contribution probably wouldn't make a ginormous difference.

I'm not sure that it's right to say we were "shocked" by how much damage we took. I, for one, kind of expected to take more TBH. I think we had a pretty good idea of what we were getting into. Of course some nations were more damaged than others, naturally. I myself lost about 25%. But that's the way it goes, I suppose!
