The real Karma war
There is an interesting side to all of this that I think many are missing. Before I go any further want to point out that I was against supporting NPO in our DoW much as many others whom fought on the Hegemony side. We instead came to the defense of our treaty partners whom respected our judgments, ideals, and communication. But, where was the war really lost?
Looking back over the last couple years I notice a few things. The last major conflict was huge on reparations, some alliances just recently coming out of them. That was a determining factor in my opinion. An alliance that goes to war, assumes a certain level of risk. Eliminate said risk with warfare, not with reparations. There are of course exceptions to this like any other situation..case in point STA, still managing to grow and strive under some difficult times. So can it be done? Oh of course. Is it easy however? Of course not..hence creating enemies that last a long time.
Doctrines...they are a funny thing. While some look at the Revenge Doctrine as imperialism I look at it as protecting ones interests. If you can back it up...have at it. However...for every action, there is a reaction. the reaction was again more and more sentiment being stirred against NPO and against Hegemony.
Attitudes...This above anything is a key factor...there is nothing wrong with being big, as long as you don't forget how tough it was when you were small. <dramatic pause> Yes its true larger alliances and nations tend to get an aura about them that their individual feces don't stink. When that happens, you loose touch with reality...you loose touch with those whom would normally under other circumstances support everything you stood for.
You see NPO lost this war before it began because it took its allies for granted and got too big for its britches. Famous line "what we got here is a failure to communicate." How many wars have been lost because of this?
