My Young Conservatism's Background
Who doesn't like to pull out a soapbox every now and again and talk about their favorite subject; themselves? I don't see myself as a conformer but like everyone, I do enjoy a good soapbox, especially with that has such a large and diverse - all white, young, liberal males - crowd, the temptation becomes too great, willpower fades as the trusty scent of espousing my own misguided opinions runs out the gate and out onto Planet Bob.
To wit, my opinions, open to criticism, insults even, but never echos.
I've grown up in a mildly affluent, solid middle-class, nuclear family. Dad goes off to work as a General Contractor, around 530-600 everyday, owner of his own 'business' persay but really comprimises himself, a foreman (or partner) for each project and whatever sub-contractors he needs for specific jobs. I'll be honest, as so will he, he works and hires illegal immigrants over crackers any day; they charge less, work more, grumble less, smile more. They all hate the EPA, state codes, the city inspectors and basically anything else that is idiocy. I've been down there with him myself and boy was that an eye opener. First time it had to do with some plans my dad had drawn up for a generic project that I'll always remember, plans which had been re-submitted time after time again; which isn't supposed to happen not more than two or three times. This time, they asked my Vater to change back the changes they requested previously, read that again, to be changed back to the original, they wanted to change the changes they requested to where the last plans stood; my father pulled out the old plans and showed them what they did, they then switched to pointing out spelling mistakes and grammatical errors. Stuff like 'this isn't capitalized' or 'there needs to be a period here,' which is retarded because it doesn't even matter, it's all engineering for Christ's sake; you hardly need to write the English in English, any engineer can muddle any plans out rather quickly, even if it is in another language, much less "you forgot a comma here, that's a subjuctive clause ect.' Which is the least of it, don't get me started on the time they said he couldn't use some cinderblock from Arizona because it hadn't been 'properly certified.' Heh, who would've thunk? Enviromentally friendly stone.
Then there's mom, drops off the kids, gets to work at 800-830; owner of her own small business. Mainly concerned with financial advising in referance to 401k plans and life-long investments; you know, one of the old school (or new school, with all the big boys turning belly up) small operators who are more like family, if not a good friend, with you. Coaches you on more than just stocks, but lifestyle choices from everything to bank withdrawls, check book balancing, big purchasing advice, monthly 'financial updates' ect. Not just a flash in the pan, give me a grand and I'll give you a million. Formerly Catholic, now Seventh-Day Adventist, (my father is non-denominational, but definitely not atheist) relatively clear thinking on religious matters. Definitely not one of those 'born-again' fundies. A registered Republican that did vote for Hillary Clinton in the Primaries but - like my dad - despises President Obama for not being too anything. They like their presidents (good or bad) to at least stand for something, I sold them on Ron Paul, both joined in with Reagan, Perot, John McCain (in primaries and election); you get where I'm going, the sort of middle-class voters just tired of the government and while appreciative of George Bush, undoubtably wished he got his modest Social Security reforms passed (what's 10%, really?) or cut back on the red tape instead of throwing his political capital all away in Iraq, Afghanistan, WTO, stupid !@#$, NAFTA ect...
So with that in mind, consider the following posts.
