The King of CN
I watched the King of Kong the other night and I wondered (having been about games and all) would the current record holders of CN and their cabal ever openly challenge a contender to the crown? Would they "rig" the system? Say one thing and do another? Have the challenger engage the champion on home turf only to destroy him by technicality and proxy? If I sat in a car and clinked bottles on my fingers and called out "X, come out and play-ay!!!" What would happen?
Well, that's kind of what happens now. Any potential Steve Wiebe is crushed by the Billy Mitchell and Twin Galaxies cabal (with Roy Schildt being the loudmouth Vox Populi styled group). I don't believe that a one-on-one battle of skill would ever occur due to the overzealous and wonton signing of MDP after MDP after MDP to protect one another from...well, one another. Does it suck the fun out of the challenge for he-who-would-be-on top, or does it just force one to be more creative? I would hope the latter would outweigh the former. Will we ever see a new coronation? Time will tell - if Billy Mitchell can have his score beaten after 20 years and countless iterations of the game being released, then a new alliance will inevitably emerge victorious. Come on, no one's that arrogant to assume otherwise...right?
