Why larger alliances amuse me...
I've been playing this game for awhile. I'm not actually sure how long I've played as I've had two previous nations shot out from under me in various wars. However, I started playing before GW 3 and spent GW 3 getting pounded by the GOONS as part of the ODN. It was a good pounding and it was quite fun. None the less, I learned a few things during my time in the ODN that have stuck with me ever since. Large alliances have ten times the capacity to amuse me through their stupidity.
For instance, I remember a case in the ODN where the leader, I think it was Daniel-land or something like that, was doing a funky chicken dance over a rogue. The very same rogue who had a total of 10 NS and represented no real threat to the alliance. It amused me to watch the whole thing from the distance. I wasn't all that active on the forums, but I heard all about Danielsan's howling and moaning all over IRC. Not only did his nibs wanted this rogue ZIed, he wanted him ran completely out of the game.
Now let us examine the inherent stupidity of Danielsan's actions by asking a few critical questions.
1) Do you really think someone of 10 NS represents that big of a threat to your alliance?
2) Is the rogue that wretched of a person that driving him out of the game becomes an option?
3) Don't alliance leaders have better things to do than to deal with that sort of crap?
Anyway, I think you see my point and I guess you had to be there to see how funny it all seemed. Watching the head of your alliance act like a spaz is funny to me at least. These egotistical nutters need the piss taken out of them on occasion. It helps keep them grounded in reality when they suddenly start barking orders at their mom for an extra serving of mashed potatoes at the dinner table.
And right about then mom says, "Hello.. meet my little friend," and tenders the final solution of a well delivered back hand.
Other large alliances that always make me laugh without fail are:
1) MHA and the way they seem to get sucked into the dumbest stuff like that Coup attempt on Jack the Great.
2) TORN... They make me laugh because they have the art of the 1 line down. You'll be reading about some new alliance and sure enough Torn pops up and says, "Be right back, raiding."
3) GATO.. they've always made me laugh with their shennanigans. I feel bad for them also as they get a raw deal these days. Hopefully they'll redeem themselves.
4) NPO.. lol. these guys are comedy gold. They always remind me of that old school 3 stooges style comedy.
5) TPF.. They make me laugh because they always get stuck defending some real dingbat protectorates. I do admire their willingness to take a chance on so many different starting alliances though.
Coitenly!
What makes a large alliance so amusing to me is the announcements they make and how serious they are about making them. This can be at both extremes of the spectrum. They can either be to serious like the NPO or not serious enough like TORN. With the NPO I sometimes ask myself if they really sit around dreaming up the stuff they post about or steal it out of Archie Comic books. With TORN I wonder what 5th grade boy's gym class escaped from their locker room.
Another moment of comedy gold is when a large alliance totally screws up. MHA is a good example of making a collosal blunder in the name of supporting a protectorate government. If I'm remembering it properly it involves some guy named Jack the Great getting couped and the thread went like ten pages of people screaming back and forth before MHA said, "Opps."
You can't help but laugh about something like that.
I know I did.. and I laughed more about it just remembering that I laughed about it the first time.
Though remember boys and girls.. I'm really am laughing at you being a dingus and I'm definitely not laughing at the mistake your made. Well actually I laugh at both.
