Wouldn't it be cool if two alliances who didn't like each other, instead of going to war directly: They funded proxy alliances and urged them to go to war with each other? Everybody would have to take sides, and it will be a long build up. Instead of just engaging in a costly war off the bat? And once everyone has had enough the two blocs will engage in a massive war?

This is From the Mind of Lex Luthor,

God Bless.

No, I don't think that will work. Part of the buildup is people in both alliances/coalitions building a desire to attack the other for whatever reason their side is using to denounce the other with.

The reason wars are so costly now is because the destruction is just ridiculous with the advent of WRC's doubling damage modifiers and high tech nations. The length of wars also contribute to this, with a lot of alliances keeping enough cash on hand to fight for at least a month (longer for a lot of alliances, much longer for a few of alliances, ridiculously long for a minority of nations in alliances).

Part of the fun is warring after the cold war, turning the cold war hot.

While it might be interesting to see 2 sides/alliances fighting a proxy war through 2 other alliances and funding them, I don't think it would be a satisfying conclusion to a cold war. It might aleviate the boredom during the cold war, an "olypmic games" style event, but not something that should replace the inevitable war.

I know, the actual global war would come later. After maybe a year or two.

I don't think a cold war for 2 years and thus a global war every 2 years is a wanted alternative to 1-2 global wars per year.

If anything I'd be more supportive of more wars, not less.

There would be more war, all the proxies would be at war with each other.

The proxies, sure, but not those who actually have beef with each other. I don't think its very satisfying to not war with my enemy for 2 years without actively trying to war them.

The proxy war idea could be useful in peace time to get more wars, but in a situation where there are two sides, like this war, I don't think proxy wars are a viable alternative to hot war directly between the two sides.

Neither Umbrella nor AI would feel at all satisfied if there was a proxy war, and waiting 2 years (while proxy wars are being fought off and on) is a long time to avoid attacking your enemy.

It might aleviate some tension, and it might work in some circumstances, but this war is one of the rarer type of wars where 2 coalitions wanted to brawl it out and tension has built to where they now are brawling it out.

Oh I see what your saying, it was just an idea. For the future, we don't have to do it now,

Now Lexxy, I dont always agree with you but when I do, your brilliant. NOW! This is awesome. Now think about this. Say a couple Umbrela Nations jump to a seperate AA and fight a war with a small alliance that is protected by Anarchy. Now while Anarchy attempts to eliminate these 20 or so nations, who by now, are not traceable to Umbrella, Umbrella and there allies are just building up everyhting, nukes, soldiers, infra tech, you name it. Now if they where smart enough to do this, they might have actually had a fighting chance in this war.

What does this have to do with the Proxy War idea of this blog?

Remember when MONGOLS or whatever fought GOONS.

Kaskus and NEW members (IIRC) jumped to the MONGOLS AA and were countered by MK and Umb members jumping to the GOONS AA.

Proxy war by definition.

I don't think you understand what I mean. Okay, say AI and Umbrella were locked in a Cold War: Two of there proxies went to war with each other: AI would support one alliance with aid, and Umbrella would support another alliance with aid; instead of AI and Umbrella engaging in a conventional war, they fight each other through proxies.

Would you take your alliance to war if i told you to simply drop everything and go to war, as my proxy?

And why would i send you to war against someone who is not the one i want to hit?

If i dont like alliance A, id does not make a lot of sense for me to ask alliance C to hit alliance B.

I know you probably think it is all cerebral and smart, and that maybe some sort of a "chipping away at their power base"... over time... and weakening them...

Out here, the blunt object to the skull works much better than a needle to the foot. Mainly because no one has the time or the patience for the kind of scenario you suggest. Also because it is much more fun have your !@#$ blown up in war, while you blow up some yourself.

Oh and the cerebral kind, they get their kicks building up coalitions and re-arranging the treaty web enough to enable the blunt object.

You didn't understand what I meant. Look at the IRL Cold War, did the US and the Soviet Union tell their respective proxies to go to war with each other? No, most of the time they already didn't like each other due to conflicting ideologies etc. The two parties who are at war would have to already not like each other and be on one side of the two opposing blocs; and the two blocs would support their respective allies with aid.
