The Tigers Chances, Good but not Great

As a fan of the Detroit Tigers, i know what the team is capable of. After watching 162 games of Great Baseball, i came to a realization.

The Tigers are the most inconsistent team in baseball.

They Started off great, the way they where supposed to. 9-3, there wins where often blowouts and there loses where close. They did pretty good in interleague play, but when the division games rolled along, the collapse begun. The Indians and the White sox where both considered major contenders after each of them took a lead in the division well into the season.

Then every once in awhile, a Tigers Hot Streak would make them relevent again then a 5 game losing streak would put them off the map.

Why though? Prince Fielder was for the first time in his career hitting over .300 and well on track for a 30 HR/100 RBI season. Miguel Cabrera was well on his way to a Triple Crown. The Tigers had lots of young talent and veterans alike. Great Prospects in Avasail Garcia, Quintin Berry, and Drew Smyly. They had players who had proven themselves over the past few years in Andy Dirks, Austin Jackson, Max Scherzer and Brennan Boesch. They had seasoned veterans in Delmon Young, Justin Verlander and Rick Porcello. They dealt their best prospect to the Marlins in exchange for two seasoned veterans in Anibal Sanchez and Omar Infante.

What was the reason for this? A catcher by the name of Victor Martinez. He had injured himself working out in Spring Training. He tore his ACL and partiall tore his MCL. He would be out for the season. That is why the Tigers signed Prince Fielder. The Problem with this is that Victor Martinez is probablly the best game caller in the game since Ivan Rodriguez. And when he wasn`t behind the plate he could hit 30 bombs and have a .320 average.

Right now though the Tigers are hot. There 2 games up on the A`s and ready to make a run. There easily one of the Youngest teams in the league but there ready. If this year they can`t do it, then next year they will be dominant again. But this year is not to be looked at as a throw away. The Tiges problem is hitting for a average. If they could hit for a average, they would be the Showtime Lakers of the MLB.

This season is one to remember for the Tigers. The beginning of the Return to greatness that has long evaded the Tigers, a greatness that hasn`t been seen since Ty Cobb, argueably the Greatest Player ever to play the game, a greatness that will propel a new age of Tigers Baseball.

In my opinion the age is a long one, one with ups and downs, but with the Tigers showing there dominance and forming new rivalries with the White Sox and Indians. Rivalries that will ignite a new fanbase. And with many World Series Rings to come, whether one comes this year or next, the ascension to greatness has just begun.

Okay, so back to the OP. Detroit has a good chance at winning it. I would actually prefer it, being a Yankees fan. That means we would have lost to the champs, yeah?

I like Detroit's bullpen depth. They have some good contact hitters. I'm routing for them until they win it.
