XX, R&R, and the allure of power (A look back in time.)

There's a oft-repeated quote that says "power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely". Since I'm personally convinced that CN is a blown-up exaggeration of everything that goes on in real life politics and diplomacy (think of CN as NBA Jam and real-life as the regular NBA), I've come to the conclusion that this is an even more relevant fact in the realm of CN politics than it is in the world outside of these halls.

It's pretty clear to say that at least the majority of the groups that have been in a position of power in this game before have abused it for their personal benefit. Some have done it worse than others, but everyone has done it. NPO disbanded alliances, forced people out of the game and installed viceroys. MK and friends pre-emptively strike their enemies and attempt to humiliate them on the world stage with displays of extravagance and excess. Now, I know those are nowhere near on the same level, but they are undenyable misuses of power. However, neither NPO nor MK are the topic of discussion that I want to relay that quote towards.

I want to look at R&R. Specifically, R&R and the whole UINE affair. Now, I have no issue with R&R's CB, and I even expressed support for the war in the initial thread. It made sense given the actions of UINE gov leading up to the war. That having been said, it was pretty clear that R&R was the newest drinker of the power punch, so to speak. XX is a truly massive bloc, yet many of their members have a reputation of being timid and afraid to take leadership into their own hands. The rationale from R&R in this scenario was obviously one to deter that image; they wanted to say to the world "we mean business".

So what does that mean? It means that the terms R&R imposed on UINE were probably intentionally unfair; the fact that they were even in a position to impose such terms was enough proof of their new level of power. And that, at the end of the day, is purely acceptable; it's not like it hasn't been done before, or that it won't be done again. With the actions imposed by the spreading of their new found power, R&R has sent a message to those around them; they aren't willing to give up their newfound power.

They, like those before them, have been corrupted by their own power. And I'm sure they wouldn't like it any other way.

Bob, do you even know what happened back then? R&R nearly went to war with UINE about a week before PB/NpO kicked off, averted only because Polar stepped in and basically co-opted the negotiations on UINE's behalf (UINE's VP ragequitted the game in part about it at the same time). The new terms were that the 4 or 5 people who raided AiD were to be ZI'd, and that Keve would pay reparations. 3 months after PB/NpO ended, AiD told R&R that those reparations had never been paid. As the terms were broken, R&R went back to plan A, and stomped on UINE. Yes, it really was plan A- there was about 30 of us lined up about 90 minutes before update waiting for the go signal and instead of being given a target list, we were told an agreement had been reached allowing us to kill the rogues and ensuring Keve would pay tech, and that half the blame of this was because Bilzey had insulted the NpO delegation.

I remember it being a lot longer than a week before PB-NpO, but it is hilarious looking back at how perfectly fine certain people were with NpO getting stomped then, who then turned around and tried to keep NpO from getting it when they actually got hit.

Not overly shocking, but I felt like R&R's hit on UINE was complete and utter BS, as they had no legitimate in. It really was one of the things I found most laughable in CN history. UINE and AiD have an issue (at this time, AiD have no tie to R&R at all, none)... things happen, an agreement is made between UINE and AiD to a resolution. In the meantime, AiD signs an ODP with R&R. UINE renegs (or has ridiculous numbers of delays in living up to their end of the bargain).... and magically, R&R hit UINE through an ODP with AiD. Someone show me where UINE hit AiD? I dont see it. Its funny in contrast with the LSF-NoR nonsense. UINE renegs on an agreement that was made BEFORE any AiD-R&R treaty existed. R&R then activates optional defense (lol) to roll UINE. And the people on R&Rs side view this as a great thing to do. When INT gov (the full gov, after hearing cases from both sides), decide that LSF aiding rogues, then basically telling NoR to eff off, constitutes LSF aggression, thereby making support optional, they get roundly trolled. Lesson: retroactive ODPs(without even an attack happening, unless you want to dive DEEP into the ocean of hypocrisy and say that UINE reneging on a deal counts as an attack...LMAO) > oA's.

Oh CN, How I love you.

i think we had treaty talks during/after bi polar cause we didnt like missing the action D:

seems like your just looking for excuses to justify your emotional investment in the game XP

why would you need a treaty to defend your friends if you wanted to do so?

oh and just fyi there were attacks after it was published on the owf

seekrit treatys should be a thing :smug:

"Power corrupts, but absolute power corrupts absolutely"- Machiavelli

You don`t have to be a Political Scientist to know that this is true. I will break it down for you.

Power Corrupts- Yes we know this whether it be minor power (Chief of Police) or Major Power (President). In every case there is minor or Major Corruption.

But Absolute Power Corrupts absolutely-Why do Dictatorships fall? Because of its Absolute Power. They become completely Corrupted and Fail.

TBH, given that ex AiD members in R&R alerted R&R to the matter the first time, and that ex AiD members in R&R alerted R&R to the lack of reps being paid, the true political monster in this story wasn't R&R at all. It was AiD. You should mass raid them. *nod*.

Ironically, Im ok with secret treaties. But activation of an ODP.. without the D... is funny to me. At the end of the day, I didnt give 2 craps about UINE or AiD... I just found the whole situation to be massively amusing.

This is hilarious, because I posted this because of how transparent the spinning Bob Ilyani was at the time and it seems Rush wants a place on the mantle. Even Sardonic backed R&R in the endeavor.
