I know this is a bit early, but I really enjoyed this one and wanted to post this one, and unlike the others, this one is semi relevant currently, although not relevant to CN.

Last week, I did a blog about CN and relating it to movies. I mentioned I saw some movies this summer. Avengers, Spiderman, and Dark Knight Rises. In this blog, I'm reviewing all of them, because I wasn't sure what else to talk about. I'm warning you now that there are spoilers. I have each review marked by the movie and in order that they came out, so if you've seen something and not the others and don't want stuff spoiled for you, just skip to that. You've been warned. I'll even put it in the title and I'm sure someone, somewhere will still complain.

Avengers:

We'll go in order. First Avengers. This movie lived up to the hype. The characters minced well together and there was a ton of action. The scene where Black Widow beat a bunch of guys up while tied to a chair after she got a phone call, made it quite clear that this character is going to be B.A. Sadly, she's not nearly as cool in the comic book universe. Which is one of the weird things about Avengers, and that entire marvel universe in general. They don't completely stick to the comic books as much (at least story line wise), which is usually a bad thing for movies based on super heroes, but avengers and all the previous movies that lead up to it, still pulled it off pretty well. Iron Man and Captain America were great characters for each other and made the movie that much more enjoyable. I also now think there needs to be a Hawk Eye movie. All in all, there's really not a whole lot specifically to talk about when it came to the avengers, but it was an amazing movie all together and the scene after the credits got me pretty excited. I rate it 9/10

Spiderman:

Okay, this one wasn't as good as the others, but was still pretty good. First off, I love how they are sticking to the comics a lot better for this one, although the lack of J. Jonah Jameson disappointed me. The only reason in the comics that Captain Stacy wanted to bring Spiderman in was because of Jameson. As well, the wrong villian killed Captain Stacy. This can be fixed in future films as long as Green Goblin eventually shoves Gwen Stacy off the bridge. Basically, everything that the original spiderman film did wrong, this one fixed and did right. It introduced the stacys before Mary Jane, which is how it happened so it makes sense. But the lack of the wrestling stuff (which was in the first movies and was in the comics) was a bit disappointing, and they only made you miss it more by having Spiderman fall into a wrestling ring. I really felt in general, that Spiderman's realization that he must use his powers for good because it's the responsible thing to do, was rushed, where in the comic books that was part of the theme. So there's a lot of stuff that it's missing that was in the original movies and that's slightly disappointing. All in all, I would say it was just slightly better than the first film of the original series, but that's because I felt the characters were better portrayed. Except for the Lizard and Doctor Connors. In the comics, he's more of a victim. In the movie, they portrayed him like he's this evil guy who just wanted everyone to be lizards, which while that was one of the Lizard's plans in the comics, the separation between the lizard and Doctor Connors just wasn't made real clear in my opinion. I rate it 7/10

Dark Knight Rises:

First off, my thoughts go out to all who were affected by the midnight release tragedy. I myself actually went to my local midnight release of this movie and was surprised at how long it was. The theater I went to is about 15-30 minutes away, depending on traffic and all that. I didn't get to bed until about 4 AM. So it is a really long movie, but it's a really good one. It follows the comics perfectly. Even the ending is right out of a comic book (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Dark_Knight_Returns) and most of the stuff from when Bane took over the city was inspired highly by the entire No Man's Land arc in the comics. Heck, Bane even went as so far to actually break Batman's bat, which happened in the comics. Really, the only character I felt wasn't portrayed as much as her comic book counter part was Selina Kyle. I call her by her real name and not Catwoman, because she has no cats in the movie, and they never call her Cat Woman either. She doesn't even have her trade mark weapon. She does live in a cruddy apartment with a roommate and hates rich people, so there is that, which does match the comic books. Talia al Ghul is well portrayed and although doesn't announce herself until near the end, a big Batman fan should be able to figure her out pretty early on in the movie. Blake was an interesting character to add to the movie. He's not based on any comic book characters, although he is a reference to four now (five if you count Carrie Kelley) and all in all, he's really an amazing character, probably one of my favorite characters in the entire Nolan universe. The effects were good. The storyline was good. The ending was exceptional. Almost everything about this movie was good. I give it a 9/10

So there you have it guys. Three summer super hero movies that I thought were all pretty good. I'd recommend seeing all three when you get the chance, especially if you are a huge comic book super hero nut like myself.

Dark Knight Rises was superb. Although I was disappointed by the fact that they didn't even mention The Joker (Maybe I missed it though). Not once. If they can go on and on about the aftermath of Dent's rampage then why not even mention in passing the guy who practically sold film #2?

It was deliberate. Part of an homage to Heath Ledger.

Spiderman was crap, it was way too soon to start again. Avengers was ok. Batman was ok but had very little batman in it. In the end bain came across as more of a good guy than batman/wayne. The superhero genre is jaded and they should drop it for 25 years.
