Roqgate brosgate

Well seeing as bros already accepted [on air] that he did snoop on UPN when he had admin access, by simply clicking on a thread in the gov areas... Roq pretty much stands proven true on the "MK Spied" issue.

While this has been interesting to see, i would rather Roq took a different approach to this. It is always better to let the masses whip themselves into a frenzy than to seem like you are trying to whip them into a frenzy. The best way to drop a bomb, Roq, is to just drop it, and then pop in every one or two days, answer any pertinent posts, ignore the obvious tangents and focus on the smart questions that are relevant to the topic at hand. Done right, it is a thing of beauty.

Right now, the T machine is trying very hard to make it about Roq and not about the issue. They have also had a modicum of success in this endeavor. Yes a few will winnow out the chaff and retain the salient points, i wonder how much that will help Roq's goals at this point in time.

Add to that the CBs based around spying have traction only when when an alliance with muscle is making the allegation. From the looks of things, in the public domain so far,UPN and RoK and the Sith are not about to make a thing of it. I am not even sure that the NSO even thinks its that big a deal or are even convinced that they were spied upon. UPN apparently forgave bros. RoK ... i think they will thank you for not making them "the news" at this point in time.

So you have one confirmed and one possible victim that are already curled up in the fetal position, a third that is "meh" about it and unless Nagasaki is something really ground breaking [but really guys, is there anything that we cant brush off?] i don't see any immediate impact of Roqgate.

Pity really, i was hoping for a flare up. Watching the scotch bottle mysteriously get emptied over the hours is not all its cracked up to be.

PS: bros... why man? wtf were you thinking.

Status update: I fell asleep at some point without realizing it. I apologize for the delay, but I've been flaked out on in terms of a carpool and I'll probably not get there until morning at this point since I don't want to pay for a flight or anything.

Thorgrum, it's been about my mental state for a long long time basically. If I don't contest it, it lets it sink through. Say a lie enough times and people believe it. The fact that I somehow have to keep proving I'm not the whackjob they say I am has been hard, yes.

I always advise ignoring any references to the status beyond the boundaries of this realm. It never helps to counter it here. Its like wrestling with a pig in the mud.

Oh. The thing is, somehow if you post a lot, a lot people will start going at it. I don't mean on the OWF necessarily but in the backchannels if the word passes around that Roq is insane, people don't talk to you, basically. zoom for example was telling everyone who asked that I had fallen off my rocker. It kind of cripples my chances to talk to anyone at all. A blackballing, you understand? Crymson is another instance. Some people like Yevgeni didn't ignore me, but they didn't take me entirely seriously either in terms of my complaints

At the end of the day, Alfred, I know the reason you want a huge gap between, but it simply doesn't exist. If I out someone for doing x IRL, they're going to get looked at suspiciously like Kaitlin and Hoo.

For example, people think pretty lowly of me in general, so like in this instance: grain of salt to a true accusation because I'd make something up to suit my agenda. I don't recall ever having done that.

I don't really want this to hurt bros long-term since it was never my intent. Like Archon said, the community has done a lot for him and I can definitely understand that even if I've been on the receiving end of the community's fire for a while. That's where I do agree with him. Where I don't agree with him is that I'm judged somehow as a madman for bringing up rather legit grievances that anyone would be upset about.

However, I hope that over time, I will regain trust within this community. One act cannot erode six years worth of trust.

... except Sardonic said you did it on multiple occasions over an extended period of time.

which will be denied until blue in the face, but admitted at last minute when evidence mounts up. So wishful thinking in his part that "one (known) act cannot erode six years worth of trust"

Bros, let's talk about an IC personality getting blasted to hell for months and months and everyone believing what is said about him/her ... and let's talk about how that erodes YEARS worth of previous reputation on this planet. Yes, let's presume exceptions are made for the likes of you since you're in MK but do not for one second try to deny the reality of what happens to people that MK takes a dislike to.

I'm almost starting to believe you're as stupid as you're pretending to be.

It's been admitted by others that it wasn't one act.

Even if it were, yes, one act can erode six years worth of trust. You took every ounce of trust you had "earned" by talking a big game and destroyed it by proving that if you are given the ability to abuse a situation, you will abuse it. Why in admin's name would anyone *ever* put you in a situation where you can abuse their trust again? Your continued lying over the crap you've done with the trust given to you just makes it less likely that anyone will ever trust you again.

Say a lie enough times and people believe it.

"You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time."

- Abraham Lincoln

I'm okay with stating "that's ridiculous" once to very stupid accusations such as the one made about your sanity, but once should be enough. A common political mistake is the belief that he or she who gets the last word wins. I've got caught in that once or twice myself. It's simply not correct.

Pay less attention to numbers of posts and more attention to their quality.

The type of people who either 1) use saying the same dumb comment over and over as a tactic and/or 2) fall for it are are usually also the type of people whose support you're better of without in the first place. On the other hand, the ones who say, "okay, we get it - you don't have to say another word" are the types of supporters worthy of keeping and thus worthy of listening to.

I did not breach security at any time, that would be a felonious act. I simply abused the trust and access that was given to me.
I'm not sure if you think saying things like this is actually helping your cause any, but either way please do continue. To say this is entertaining does not even begin to describe.

There is a difference between one abuse of trust and using malicious code to gain unlawful entry to portions of a website

"I attempted to log into the control panel of the website and was unsuccessful in my multiple attempts. As a result of these failed attempts, I switched computers and tried to access the forums. Through a streak of luck, I was able to do so."

You were able to use a 'streak of luck' to regain access to an account I had disabled/removed.

Yep. Lucky.

Where have I "denied" what happens to people MK (as a whole, not myself personally) takes a dislike to?

Ah. You are referring to the UPN incident, correct?

In which I was able to download UPNs database and restore it on the MK server as a temporary home for UPN after Peggy Sue tried to screw over UPN by trying to destroy their community?

I was able to do it because my DNS hadn't propagated yet. Peggy Sue had not removed my admin access. So a UPN gov member came to me and was like "BROS PEGGY SUE $%&@ED UP OUR BOARDS HELP"

I was like "welp" when I saw it (I was on my computer that my family also uses) and tried to access the control panel with no success, as the password had been changed.

Then I switched to the computer I am currently on, my gaming computer, and I was still able to access the UPN forums by just going to the URL. No witchcraft or voodoo involved. Just went to cnupn.net, was still logged in, clicked Admin, clicked Forum Maintenance, then downloaded a backup of the database and it worked.

That is one of the good things bros has done in his time here. I would not fault him for that.

edit: dangit bros.

I'll fault bros for anything he's done that has prolonged the life of UPN

Alfred, I didn't expect you to be one to say 'it's ok if it is some outcome I like, no matter the method."

Seriously, the IRL property rights were not Bros and he was removed from access to it. After trying to get in unsuccessfully he knew he'd have to do something fancy to sneak in ... and he did. He entered something that did not belong to him nor UPN. *shakes head*

Now look here. my recollection of the info i was given regarding the issue [yes i was not directly involved] is that UPN was about to lose their forums and bros helped them retain them. So in that light, i cannot fault him for helping. If it was UPN, and it was their forums, then their request puts him in the clear.

If as you say, he violated someone's property rights in order to do it, then of course it is not good. The only way that could occur though is if the person that owned the forums wanted to screw over UPN, was that the case?

I have faced a situation in the recent past, which involved making me chose between the needs of the many and one person's property [forums]. I picked property rights. Even when i knew that the one person who owned the forums would not object. It is one of the first things you learn before working on others' behalf dealing with their property. Think of it as being a manager in a company owned by someone else. Or a groundskeeper on an estate. You work to their benefit with their permission, within the bounds set by them. It does not matter, if there is no remuneration involved, as in the case of managing someone's forums on CN. The pay here is not money or even ingame tech/money, but something more important. The pay here for managing someone's forums is in the form of trust and respect.

So to recap, if bros, or anyone, trespassed and intruded where they were not permitted to enter, yes they screwed up.

No intrusion nor hacking or cracking was committed in regaining access to the UPN database. I simply switched computers.

You know how sometimes when a new URL comes up, some people can access it like minutes after someone says "ZOMG GO HERE BRAND NEW SITE" but it will take others an hour?

it was like that

but with my computers

One computer updated instantly

The other hadn't updated yet and for all intents and purposes, the server hadn't changed yet. I was still able to access the forums through luck, plain and simple. If you wish for a more in-depth explanation, feel free to query me on IRC (as I have forgotten to keep up with the CN forums)
