My Week 1 Upset Picks

I'm really excited for FOOTBALL to finally start tonight so I thought I would share my upset picks of the week. I go mainly by gut feeling and prejudice and I do no real research so don't get too mad at me. Make fun of me if you need to, I will probably agree with your assessment. :P

Philadelphia versus St. Louis

Line: -5

I'm not sold on the Dream Team personally. I know you shouldn't pay any attention at all to preseason, but Philly's O-Line looked pretty bad. I think if things come together for them, it won't be this week. Sam Bradford could be a top 5 QB in 5 years, and I think Sims-Walker was a good pick up. I'm on the bandwagon for this pick but I think the Rams win this one by at least a touchdown.

Jacksonville versus Tennessee

Line: -2

Sort of a crap game, but JAX is favored for some reason. I know Chris Johnson missed a lot of practice, but I think he will be productive. Jacksonville is circling the drain in preparation for the move to Los Angeles in a few years. The Titans win this by field goal.

San Diego versus Minnesota

Line: -8.5

O.K., this is a fan pick. Whats backing me up though is that SD are notoriously slow starting. I don't think McNabb is going to be that bad providing Harvin feels ok and Adrian Peterson is still the best RB in football. Again, a fan pick.

Possibles:

Dallas has a chance to beat the Jets now that they have a real coach. Denver and Oakland is a toss up to me. ( What is with the awful MNF games?)

EDIT: I missed the Tampa Bay Detroit game as a possible. I'm not picking it because I can't bring myself to jump on the DET bandwagon just yet, but it's entirely possible.

As a Raiders fan I am angry that you said that :( Because its gonna be a high scoring game and thats always a plus. And the Broncos will probably win I don't see the Raiders doing too well this year.

I would take Tampa Bay with Freeman over Stafford. Hopefully he stays healthy. I hope the Vikes beat the Bolts though...

As for all your games where are these upsets?

I mean what about Ravens v. Steelers or Pack v. Saints or any of the good games playing in week one. You picked the crappy games....

Ravens are favored to win, and I pick them to win. Pack is favored and I picked them to win. These are just the upsets based on the lines. Any other game I went with the favorite aside from those three. I agree with you on the Tampa Bay game, I think Freemen will be another top 5'er in a few years.

The possibles are just ones I thought were close enough where I wouldn't be surprised if it went the other way, but still went with the favorite.

Also, I sort of like the Raiders too, I just don't think they'll be any good until Al Davis hands over the reins. He just makes strange decisions.

EDIT: BAL/PIT Should be an upset pick because I think PIT is a slightly better team but Vegas seems to really like BAL and gave them -2 at home.

I'd say the Titans win by a lot more. The Jaguars have an awful secondary, they cut the best QB on their roster, etc. etc.

Matt Hasselbeck is still alright, but nowhere near the awesomeness he was in 2005. Still decent enough to get the Titans going down the field.

And I'd take Bolts over Minny. V-Jax is back! Bolt Up! (In other words, I hope frickin' Norv Turner stops being so passive and fires up the team to avoid yet another slow start)

As to tonight's game, I think Green Bay really studied the Saints-Seahawks playoff game last season on to how to tear apart the Saints' D. They looked really, really bad in the first half. Green Bay had okay D, but it looked rusty as well. I kind of like shootouts though, better for fantasy stats.

You're probably right, and I always forget about Britt.

I'm a Vikings fan, and my girlfriend is a Chargers fan. You can see how tough it would be for me to break down and pick SD.

They knew they were going to play them as soon as the season ended, so that may have helped a little. Of course, NO knew too. The Pack having pretty much the same team helped I'm sure.

Yeah it seemed like everyone, Saints in particular, saw grass for the first time. lots of slipping and falling.

I hope Charles Woodson gets fined hard for that punch. He probably should have been ejected.

In one of my leagues, I had Finley and Jennings, but played against Rodgers.

Charles Woodson did deserve to get ejected. Maybe suspended a game. That sort of conduct is uncalled for.

But yeah, I'm hoping Rivers has another awesome year and actually makes playoffs this year. In most of my leagues, I ended up drafting Rivers, lol. I'm such a homer.

But seriously, he always kinda fell my way in drafts, and it's hard to pass a good QB up in the 3rd round. Not my fault people reached for Peyton Manning (lol) or other players when they could have taken Rivers. If not Rivers, then I would have had taken Schaub.
