Alliance State of Mind

Xiphosis

I was talking to a couple of people last night about something that happened back in 07 and in the course of retrieving the threads involved so we could all have a laugh about it, I noticed something; everyone in the thread was mostly being cool to each other. There was some nastiness, but it was subtle.

It reminded me of when LUE disbanded, and NPO gov turned out to hail them and remark on how the fighting had brought them closer. Seems to me you just don't see that anymore, and it's a shame, because it makes for a good forum atmosphere and good playing experience.

Makes you wonder what changed, and how to go about fixing it.

Xiphosis, come on man -- at least SAY it was me and Nikanor you were talking to! Your points won't go down because you were talking to us on IRC. ehm.gif

People were generally nicer back then though, yes. Except between me and the commies.

If you ignore mindless flames the forums are relatively friendly. The average hater feels free to post hatefully now days, but as long as you see if for what it is, shouldn't bother you. I usually find it rather entertaining myself, although I don't normally partake, it's taxing, and I've got better things to do. :)

Back then there was still an IC/OOC line and people did not cross it.

Nowadays though there seems to be no such respect, and people will be outright rude to other players and call it in-game politics.

We all need to step back for a second and remember IT'S JUST A GAME. And while other characters may be your enemy the players that control those characters are not.

Wasn't going to namedrop without talking to you guys first, seemed rude.

It's true.

The essential problem is that people now care too much about CN, and are generally immature about it.

I've seen this exact same syndrome when larping; at first everyone's pretty friendly and just playing around, being goofy. However after a couple years the same group has now divided up into cliques, many of which centre around one or more couples; and they really care about what happens to their characters and take their (usually romantically founded) grudges out on the other players' characters.

It's tedious, and is probably why I don't larp anymore. I don't have a solution though. <_<

I have to admit I think it is somewhat ironic for one of CN's leading white knights to be complaining about this syndrome. Perhaps there is hope after all :)

Please tell me you're quoting something.

Interesting, Xiphosis.

Before I make other comments, would you happen to have links to some of those old threads, please? I saved several but lost them when my hard drive bit the dust.

Xiph, we all get the irony too, but that doesn't mean we're going to stop.

Wasn't referring to you.

Here's NAAC's disbandment. You can find a lot of them browsing the GW2 and GW3 wiki page.
