Re: Casey Anthony Verdict

I've seen one of the most disgusting things today.

And that is the response of the Media to the Casey Anthony verdict.

I don't spend much time at all watching the news because I can't stand the sensationalism around trials like this. Hearing about it is unavoidable, but it's hard to listen to the news seriously when you know that their primary objective is not the delivery of truth, but to sell a story.

Today, the Justice System prevailed. This is exactly how it's supposed to go down. It's better for 10 killers to go free than for one innocent to be put to death. You cannot deliver a guilty verdict just because you "feel" like she might be guilty. There is a very good reason that it is required to be "beyond any reasonable doubt." There was a lack of hard evidence in this trial, and the courts worked exactly as they should have. I couldn't be happier with the verdict, because the verdict is correct, even if she actually did kill that little girl.

But enter the Media. Even with the verdict, the Media wastes no time to write yet another sensational chapter to the story they've woven. Legally, she didn't do it. But the Media thinks they can say otherwise. Now, what if this woman really is innocent? She's going to be a victim of the Media, and there is a high risk that some crazy man will come after her - All because the Media wants to make an easy buck. It's a certain thing that the Media has wrecked her life, and she will be harassed until the day she dies, a punishment outside of the due process of our judicial system.

This is why jurors are sequestered. This is why they come back with verdicts counter to what the Media wants. This is why it took almost no time at all for them to come back with a verdict of Not Guilty. Because they were subjected to a fair, balanced review of the case and the evidence, unlike the Media sharks driven into a feeding frenzy at the smell of a new target. They saw the truth, not the fantastical story the Media always loves to paint.

The biased view being returned by the Media in response is disgusting, and it's exactly why I make an effort to avoid televised news.

Today the Justice System worked. We Americans should celebrate the fact that our Judicial System still works, that people are not put to death on mere suspicion. This day is a victory for all of us.

Slander of a woman who went partying and lied to the police to hide the fact her child was missing for a month? I don't see it happening.

And yes, what a victory. A baby killer walks free. Rejoice!

Sure the system worked but why would you want to celebrate someone getting off because they hid the body long enough and didn't confess. O/ O.J right?

Agreed opinion about Nancy Grace though.. she's a real piece of work xD

Wabooz, it's not up to you to determine guilt, it's up to the jury. And the jury saw a much different story than the Media presented, that much is clear.

Regardless of her actual innocence or guilt, there was a lack of evidence. You absolutely cannot, under any circumstance, convict someone without evidence. It isn't how our country is supposed to operate.

I've seen a lot of people remark how sad it is that "Caylee's death wasn't avenged." The trial system is about serving justice, not vengeance. The latter is extremely dangerous, and is the sort of thing that causes angry mobs to lynch the innocent.

The Justice System prevailed in stopping the Tyranny of the Masses, and came to it's own conclusion when presented with an unbiased view of the case. Again, that's how it's supposed to work.

It's not about one possibly guilty person walk free. It's about the reassurance that, if you should ever stand accused of a crime you didn't commit, you won't be subjected to the whims of a sensational media, and that the case will be viewed by a jury in an unbiased light.

Nobody "knows" that she did it, because, as we can see by the verdict, it was not even close to being proven. What you have is speculation and suspicion, that's it. I am glad that we don't execute people on such a weak basis. I'm glad the system is set up to prevent that.

This is so true. There are so many instances when people are charged on a whim, and when there isn't any evidence everyone gets angry because the media squeezed the story dry.

HoT I agree with you on the fact that the justice system done what it was suppose to but I can't help but feel she did get away with it. They can always trial her down the road if new information becomes available right?

HoT, that's all fine but we'll have to agree to disagree that this is a case to be celebrated. There's been a two year old child thrown in the brush like trash and nobody to be held accountable. Innocent men head to death row sometimes, and sometimes the guilty walk free on technicalities or insufficient proof. I'll not celebrate either.

But since Casee didnt do it. Either the family did it, or a stranger, which went unreported. Not only that, the mother fabricated stories during the time she was missing to make it appear she was OK.

That or the two year old girl grabbed a roll of duct tape, walked a half mile into the brush and committed suicide. Every scenario is a tragedy so I hope you can see why people are frustrated and emotional over this case.. its alot more than the justice system working, or not.

Anyways, I won't sit here and fist pump because the system worked. It's been working for hundreds of years, for the most part, and will continue to do so. I'll just sit here disappointed because a poor little girl is dead without any sort of justice.

yeah i agree fully that the media just needs to stfu. Although I highly dislike the American legal system, personally i think its a joke on account of my friend getting sued by an armed robber in the vicinity of his home when he broke the robber's jaw (armed robber won). But back on topic, you have to be proven guilty, you can't just assume that she is, and therefore hate her guts. On another note, I second MP's opinion of Nancy Grace being a !@#$%*

Wabooz, I understand the emotions. It was a tragic loss. But it's important to not base the decision of someone's life on emotions. Logic and rationality must prevail.

If she was convicted because people felt that she "probably" did it, then justice would not have been served. That would have been the opposite of justice.

And she was convicted of 4 counts of lying to law enforcement, as she should have been.

She was definitely guilty of more than just lying. I can't help but feel that the prosecution could have added more charges, but I suppose they thought they had enough circumstantial evidence to get her.

Actually no. Not unless it is for a different crime.

Yep the American justice system is so messed up that she could actually admit she did it now and there would be nothing they could do about it.

Yea, she can never be tried for the murder of her child ever again.

EDIT: all the same, I agree with the OP. There wasn't evidence to convict, so she got off almost free. I do kinda hope that she gets the harshest punishment for the 4 counts of lying to law enforcement, though.
