This evening, across Seria there have been a series of street parties and indoor events have been taking place in celebration of GUN's move onto the Aqua sphere. Seria has a deep-rooted affinity with GUN states, with many of the early improvements in technology being supplied from those states, and Serian pounds paying for basic infrastructure in GUN nations. With that technology came a large number of technicians – and it's those immigrant communities that are the root of the celebrations tonight.
With the return of GUN as alliance level neighbours, and the widespread reduction in visa requirements for travel to and from its member states, relationships and trade with GUN are expected to strengthen rapidly. The Home Minister said earlier today:
"Seria has a large community of former GUN citizens. While they have been resident here some time and are fully Serian, they are naturally happy to see their countries of origin become easy to access once again."
It seems a long time since Seria turned its back on its native Green Sphere, and reduced diplomatic relations with our friends in GUN, Viridia and ArGo. Aqua has brought a similar level of prosperity – and improved the position of many Grämlin nations – but we have always missed our former friends. As a nation we are Green at heart – our flag is mostly green and our nation founded on Green – and now a piece of the old Green Sphere has joined us in our new home on Aqua.
In a separate announcement, rather understated amid the start of the celebrations, the Department of Health today announced a £100m initiative to provide state health care to all citizens. The first centres, in Letarth, Marrath and Tavovra in the Tariel valley, were opened today, and hundreds of medical practices across the country were open for free consultations paid for from the state funds. Increased tax revenues from a fitter workforce are expected to pay for the scheme without needing to raise income tax. Residents of other Aqua nations will be entitled to receive free medical assistance on production of an Aqua Medical Insurance Scheme card, which allows nations to aggregate costs over the year and pay for the balance in one step.
