A brief introduction

VIdiot the Great

Hello there. Who am I? Chances are you don't know.

First of all, let me dispense with some administrative matters. As far as I'm concerned, this blog is OOC. While it will most certainly discuss IC events, diplomacy, wars and announcements, the person writing this blog does so as the man behind the character.

In game, the few of you that do know me, know me as EmperorVIcious, or VIdiot the Great. Or maybe just plain old 'VI.'

I came here after playing the game that shall not be named with some friends, I set up a nation, formed an alliance, and away I went. If anyone really cares, I could go more in depth at a later time. Now to the point:

Why 'The Outsider?'

Simple, because it's the point of view that I have. Though CN has many great people that I have met, it has many more that I haven't. But ultimately, I enjoy my perspective greatly. And that perspective is of a player who is outside the power structure. There are also many players that are movers and shakers, both IC and OOC.

I ain't one of them.

However, I do follow the events around CN fairly religiously. Though I am certainly not privy to the thoughts and motives of many of the moves that go on in this game, I, along with many others, are privy to the public posts that either memorialize these moves, or signal that a move is about to be made. Sometimes I'll comment on such things specifically. Other times, I'll tend more towards a general view of life on Digiterra, depending on my mood. I do expect that I'll comment on IC politics and possibly compare it to OOC events. The political side of CN is what fascinates me, sadly, there seems to be little in the way of competing political ideologies on Digiterra. This may be a phase, it may not be. My first substantive entry will be a continuation of my thoughts regarding the role, if any, of morals in international politics entitled 'Morality in Politics.'

I also thought there were far too few ideologies here, but it seems there are many. They are just not always clear in voicing what they are, probably due to the fact that most place the importance of their moralities underneath that of self-preservation. That is another question, how to show that "self-preservation above all other considerations" is both a morality and an ideology.

Looking forward to your essay.
