In the Kitchen with Zoggy Baby
Anyone who knows me well also knows that I enjoy most kinds of cooking, whether it's baking, broiling, BBQ'ing or what have you.
My wife recently found a recipe on the Web that instantly got her attention. I am hopeful that this particular dish will become the official dessert of Nordreich.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you....
Schadenfreude Pie
1 cup dark brown sugar
1 cup dark corn syrup
1/2 cup molasses
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter
1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips or chunks
3 large eggs (I used brown eggs in keeping with the spirit of things, but white eggs are fine)
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 splash Kahlua or other coffee liqueur
1 graham cracker pie crust (9 or 10 inches). Choose regular or chocolate graham cracker crust according to taste.
Preheat oven to 375F. Melt butter in large mixing bowl; add corn syrup, molasses, brown sugar and cinnamon. Mix well. Melt chocolate and fold into existing mixture. Add eggs and Kahlua. Mix vigorously until mix has an even consistency. Pour into pie crust.
Bake on the middle rack for approximately 45 minutes. Test with a knife. If the knife slides out easily, you're done.
Let it sit for 20 minutes or more.

As the creator of this recipe says, "Let’s face it, schadenfreude is a dark emotion. It deserves a dark pie."
And dark it certainly is. I didn't take any pictures of the one I made, so I'm yoinking from the original creator's blog:
Along with such quips as "The unspeakable malevolence of the pie, in single-serving size," its creator also suggests cutting the finished product into small pieces owing to the fact that it's incredibly rich.
I ignored this wise advice, and I'm pretty sure I have diabetes now.
Apart from having insulin on-hand, it may not be a bad idea to schedule a dental appointment right after dessert, since I'm pretty sure a couple of my teeth have dissolved as well.
I shall leave the final word to the pie's creator:
"Joy at the misfortune of others — and pie! Truly, the best of all possible worlds."
