Times Have Changed
I remember outpouring of support for a girl who had cancer 2 years ago, people flooded the alliance's forums, regardless of political alliance affiliation. She was struggling to live and was only 14 and played CN to keep ongoing.
I remember when Denzin died, even people who weren't that fond of his IC personality still mourned the loss.
For the mentality back then was it didn't matter if you were odds in politics, that RL is RL and there was a boundary.
Yet today, I see some support but it seems people have decided to confuse the boundary and we are no longer the community we once were. Politics change, but the fact that one can be distasteful towards a member of the community, regardless of sides, when RL tragedy strikes makes me wonder what road this place is on.
No, I am not saying be nice to their IC character or treat them differently because of their RL situation. I am saying, leave RL where it belongs and leave politics where they belong.
It does not matter who you are, what political alliance affiliation you are. The fact that anyone would make a joke about someone's RL when tragedy hit, what if the situation was reversed? What if it was you?
That is when the excuse "I am just playing a persona" ends and you cross lines that should not be crossed. Let's learn to remember this again. I am not saying you need to be weepy or sympathetic but snarky remarks involving RL are not needed. That is a road and a path I would rather not see us as an entirety walk.
There is a boundary, find it again.
