Lack of leaders

Here I am, looking at the list of gov members for various alliances on the CN wiki, as well as thinking about various gov members I've met over the years. It occured to me that most of these are people are nothing more than active alliance members doing a duty or performing a service. Most of them aren't leaders.

Looking around Planet Bob today, the number of leaders still around is really saddening. There are so few real leaders around that it is not surprising there's no real drama going on anymore. Most of the quality leaders have left or retired, disgusted with the way we have become, or just bothered to kick a dead horse anymore.

Where are the Moldavis? P_Cs? Archons or Denzins of this generation? In all honesty, I don't see any. Players have become soft, and leading an alliance has become more about activity than it has about being an actual leader.

Here are some people that are still around(even if they're retired) that I think are "leaders"s (as in, more than just an active member). I'm trying to not be biased here, and I'm naming them as I think of them.

Xiphosis

Van Hoo III

grahamkeately

Ivan Moldavi

joracy

AlmightyGrub

Crymson

Dilber

ClashCityRocker

BamaBuc

KillJoy

mhawk

JBones

Twisted

Cortath

TheNeverender

Impero

MikeTheFirst

There's probably more, but I'm having trouble thinking of anyone outstanding. If you have suggestions, please let me know, and I'll consider it. It'll more likely than not be rejected though :P

The sad thing is, all of those leaders are from before the Karma war era. I have serious trouble thinking of even a single significant person after that war.

Moldavi has always been described to me as a big picture guy, not an elbows-deep leader.

I agree with you on that point, but he is certainly more than "just an active member" as well. I'm being very liberal with my definition, or else the list will just become too depressingly short.

Ivan Moldavi and Dilber are the only ones I recognized. They certainly were leaders from what I can remember.

They certainly have a higher profile than most leaders around, but they are most definitely not the only leaders.

Sponge is no longer around, and Rebel Virginia has done very little leading from my perspective.

I have led men like Damsky and a few others to true glory. It is a shame that there are not many like me. In fact, I am such a great leader my enemies refuse to acknowledge me as such, and lesser men are unwilling to follow me. It is not that they do not recognize my greatness, but rather because they fear it, and they know that they themselves are not worthy.

Haha.. Any "leader" list that includes Joracy, literally the laziest guy on CN (he admits it, Im not flaming, I love the dude).... is laughable.

Also.. any leader list of recent times, that does not include Londo (like him or hate him).. is ridiculous.

Joracy pretty much reformed ODN from what I've seen. Lazy as he is (I know that...), that is no mean feat.

Also, I've seen Londo do a lot of following, but very little leading. Athens has always been following Mushroom Kingdom around, and I haven't seen any independant decisions made by them. Sorry if my view upsets you.

You forgot Londo? !@#$%^&.

I acknowledge that you are a great player, and should I make a blog for "best CN players", you would be there. As a leader though?

Also, Londo would probably fall under the "best CN players" category for me, rather than "CN Leaders". He's a good player and pretty cool guy, but as a leader? Perhaps more of a follower?

Before you go hating on me, a follower is just as important as a leader, for a leader can't lead without a follower.

You cannot blame me for the cowardice of others.

You also forgot Viktor, Corinan, and Doppelganger.

Londo was at the head of an alliance, that spent literally its 18 months of existence, either being rolled, or threatened to be rolled, by the powers that be of that time. Through all of that , he kept it together, and GREW Athens into prominence. If that doesnt qualify as a LEADER, then your criteria, is severely flawed.

Care to inform me of what they/he did? I don't know those men/that man's history :P

The definition of leader is of course entirely subjective here. Your definition is apparently that of someone who can hold an alliance together through thick and thin, a feat a leader does not need to be present for, just a group of insane core members. It would seem R3's criteria are different.

If that was unique to Athens back then, then maybe it would be of note. As it happens, there are other alliances out there that have done the same. It is an incredible feat, but the fact that Athens survived should be credited more to her members than Londo.

You are forgetting a lot of leaders worth on being that list. Namely 3. Two on the orange sphere and one on green.

Mind mentioning them? Going through my mental list of both present and past alliance leaders, and can't think of any. I'm pretty sure I've missed a fair few.

Osravan, Impero and MikeTheFirst come to mind. These all have a good leading and working ratio. Unlike Moldavi which only does leading and doesn't do anything for his alliance. A leader also needs to put in some work to better his alliance. I could go on for some time and name a couple of more but these 3 stand out of the crowd.

MikeTheFirst probably qualifies as a leader. Impero... undecided about that guy. He does !@#$ that leaders shouldn't do, but he CAN lead... Meh, I'll throw him in anyway. OsRavan... Cool guy, but no.
