<Penkala> christ mvp

Since he seems so intent on using Christ's name, in vain albeit, then he should know this Bible verse:

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? Matthew 7:3

It's Sunday so quite fitting, I have Church soon anyways. Have a wonderful rest of the night.

Oh, shut up you mewling little child. God, you can't even discuss the topic at hand and have to resort to more :(( GOONS :(( bull crap. Here's a tip: learn the differences between "you're" and "your", "then" and "than", and "its" and "it's". Once you're able to type like the 'big-boy' you claim to be, you come back and see me. Perhaps you'll earn some respect.

you mad.

To be completely honest, I really don't care if you respect me or not, I simply don't care what you think, and I'm pretty confident that I'm not the only one who feels that way. Whats the worst thats going to happen, you going to hunt through every word I type and report me? I'm trembling in my boots.

Its always amusing when somebody responds to something with the same-old 'u have poor grammar' argument, its like somebody yelling "FU" when they know their argument has been defeated, try harder next time.

I wasn't arguing with you, I'm not sure why you've decided to argue with me. I was merely stating my opinion, if you don't like it, that's fine, but I wasn't forcing my morals on anyone. I'm not the kind of person who would try to change another's opinion on a subject like religion, but I do think that a person's beliefs deserve to be respected no matter what they are.

You quoted my post and stated a contradictory opinion in response. What is your definition of arguing?

It's always amusing when I'm more intelligent than the people that hate me. Feel free to continue responding with your weak, sniveling rhetoric. Feel free to fester in mediocrity. May your children be of more value to this world than you are....the world could do with fewer cliches.

You know nippy, you often talk to me as my friend outside of this game but while you're in front of everyone else you seem everything but. If you value our friendship at all, I'd suggest you not rail on me in public and than be friends with me in private. If there's something I hate more than anything in the world, it's two-faced people.

You've never demonstrated yourself to be thin-skinned, dude. This seems to be a new development, as does this necessity to talk about your choice in faith. If it's a sore subject, why bring it up? We've spoken about other topics and we get along fine...religion is a personal choice, and when other people's religions attempt to infringe on my lack of religion, I take offense. I say 'christ' all the time and am not about to stop saying it just because it might hurt someone's feelings. If you decide that's enough to stop being friendly on IRC, I'm prepared to accept that result.

Why do you think that a person's beliefs should be automatically accorded respect? What if they believe in sacrificing people to their god? Or in a system that promotes homophobia? Your line of thinking makes no sense to me, sorry.

I guess GOONS haven't learned much from their past. :v:

Yes, because one member of GOONS expressing his individual point of view in an OOC discussion about religion equates to an in-character persecution of an entire alliance composed of many individuals with different views and faiths :awesome:

This was clearly a joke. But I do take attacks against my faith very personally and it's a subject I'd rather have people not persecute me on. This isn't another run of the mill subject for me, and if you can't respect that then I'm more than prepared to accept the result as well.

Apparently fear drives most people to do what they do in secularist societies nowadays. Such a beautiful lifestyle.

Various brands of religious belief have always been driven by fear-mongering, largely consisting of the fear that there will be nothing following the extinguishment of sentience, as far as I understand it, anyway.

As you point out, there are certain brands of modern politics that peddle fear as well - fear of foreigners, fear of difference, fear of the other and of loss - such politicians often peddle their adherence to faith as well. Of course, what you don't point out is that there are secular and religious belief systems that don't involve such things but I suppose that might not fit into your world-view, eh?

Edit: Spelling and clarification.

What was clearly a joke? This blog post? You're not a man that generally has his common sense tank on "E", man, but goddamn...if you're saying you introduced a subject you yourself find touchy as a 'joke', and were then prepared to take offense to the responses it generates....well, come on. Think about that one.

I had been contemplating whether to reply to your remarks all day. On one hand, I felt that your comments did nothing but solidify my previous points and that there was really nothing left to be said, however after careful thought, I determined it'd be worth it for no other reason then to see what kind of childish argument insult that you would use next.

I'll admit, I got a pretty good chuckle from your last comment, you say that your 'smarter then the people who hate you' while basically using a grade-school insult of 'I'm smarter then you'. I don't think you understand, an unsubstantiated accusation means little, especially when you completely fail to address the points of my comment.

Again, I'll ask that you try harder.

You didn't answer my question. Why do you think that a person's beliefs should be automatically accorded respect? What reasoning have you applied to reach this conclusion?

Your question was stupid, that's why it wasn't answered. I eat meat, but would I eat meat if the farmer skinned the animal alive and then proceeded to rape it's corpse and piss all over it? No. Your question was the equivalent of that, so it got no answer, because it didn't deserve an answer.

No it isn't the equivalent. You said "I do think that a person's beliefs deserve to be respected no matter what they are." I doubt you'd say "I eat meat, no matter where it comes from." If there are indeed limits to what beliefs you feel deserve innate respect, you should probably add some sort of qualifier to "no matter what they are."

Please don't try and claim you are being persecuted here, because that really would be disrespectful to people around the world who are actually being systematically harmed.

This is the probably the only time me and you are ever going to agree on anything.

I've read some of this debate, and it's interesting. I recently had an incident in my dorm hall. I write jokes on my whiteboard, and one of the jokes mentioned Satan. The RA got all self-righteous and upset over that single word, acting like I had no right to say it because they happened to take offense to it for whatever ridiculous reason. What really is offensive is when someone thinks that they are so important that their not being offended takes precedence over my freedom of speech, that they have a right to impose their religious morality on me.

Personally, I don't respect people's beliefs. I respect the fact that other people have differing beliefs, but there is no reason I should have to respect any fairy tale as if it were truth because some lunatic on some corner of the earth believes it.
