I was not on the joke but thought that the thread seemed like a bad soap opera. Still can't believe a lot of people fell for it.

Its easier to fall for it when you express your doubts to the involved parties and they tell you it's completely legit.

Perhaps I may be the odd man out here, and maybe I'm missing something, but I don't see anything funny and/or spectacular about the joke. Somebody caused an alliance in a weaker position to go to Peace Mode, under the assumption they were going to be rolled, some people caught on, others didn't, what was the point exactly?
