Dead Air

So as we all know, summertime means wars. People at home with nothing better to do look to occupy themselves with as much Bob drama as they can handle. Well, it looks as if people have already started to test the waters, looking for just about anything to start the next big war.

In one instance (we'll call it situation A), we have an actual joke taken out of context because the mother of the person insulted is truly sick in RL. Sad as it is, it doesn't mean the intent of the joke was as dastardly as was projected by the offended party. But, because emotions are running high, things are blown out of proportion.

In another instance (we'll call it situation B), a government member of a larger alliance went and requested a known rogue to attack the leader of another alliance. Once confronted, said government member calls it a joke, although logs say differently.

In situation (A), the offending party was willing to eat their pride and apologize for something, that well, shouldn't really have to be apologized for. In situation (B), the offending party calls it a joke, and instead of the leaders of the alliance forcing their gov member to just apologize to de-escalate the issue, they call it a joke as well and refuse to make their gov member admit their wrongdoing.

Two similar issues handled in very different ways. But on both occasions, true colors are shown. I guess since it's summer, a war will be started, whether reasons are solid or not. Although I'm sure if nothing pops up soon, some raiding alliance (GOONS?) will finally go after the wrong nations/alliance and trigger the war that everyone is awaiting.

Oh the happy days of summer are here.

Re: Situation A. People need to stop spilling their guts and telling strangers about their personal life. If you give out personal information you should expect to be insulted by some people, thats CN. Long story short play the game and leave your personal life outside. If you bring it on to Bob then its fair game even if its poor form. A thicker skin wouldnt hurt or hiding under the bed incase someone inadvertently insults you is a good idea.

I'm quite familiar with both situations, and feel that in both situations the offending alliances behaved at pretty bad, either in terms of handling the situation or preventing another such situation.

I agree with what is said here.

Situations like these happen every week of the year. Great wars are often triggered by situations of similar mundanity, but they don't happen because of them -- nor because people are bored enough to act on them (as Comrade Letum demonstrated in an earlier thread by showing the lack of correlation between holidays and great wars).

Much grander political interests need to be in play, drawing in most or all of the major actors and giving them an objective reason to risk everything. If this isn't the case then said situations at most become a curbstomp, as the political capital of one side comes to nothing and the other side seizes the opportunity to eliminate a threat/rival/annoyance.

Perhaps it is a result of being on the outside of the power struggle for a change, but personally I don't see the manoeuvring necessary for an event to spark anything significant (and those looking to the NPO or some remnant of the Continuum are even further out of the loop than me).

In short: strap yourself in for a long, boring, summer.
