The History Channel

All day today (Memorial Day) The History Channel had a Pawn Shop marathon. It surprises me that they didn't do some sort of history special.

Also, Chumlee is ridiculous.

PS Check out this post, where I waste Penkala's time because Penkala is a hater.

The "History" Channel is becoming less and less about history and more and more about junk reality show programming. While an improvement over 1955 UFO conspiracy b.s. (which they also show to death, along with other conspiracy programming), your best bet for history programming is to go to the History Channel web site, watch History Channel International, the Military Channel, or one of the other many channels on cable or satellite TV that carry history programming.

They should just rename the history channel "WW2 channel"

No, they really don't do much WWII anymore. Nowadays it's all about Pawn Stars, UFOs, and $%&@in' 2012 bullcrap.

I think due to the rise of the internet TV has lost a lot of its more intelligent audience, so now we're left with shows like The Real Housewives of New Jersey. "She puts the cont in contradiction, !@#$%^."

It's really a shame that they can't just do shows on history or at least something quasi-related to it; history is fascinating and interesting enough right there. Commercialization ruins just about everything.

History Channel was good once upon a time. But "once upon a time" died a while ago, sadly.

I just can't watch Pawn Stars. Besides the fact that it is dumb as mess.

Say it with a Southern accent and you'll see why.

I was thinking something along those lines.

They also completely ruined their documentary series on the United States ("America: The story of us") by making it absurdly pro-American and putting a ridiculous American spin on every goddamn thing. Watching it you'd think that the US was God's gift to the world. Shame because they could've made it really good.

I remember watching the History channel a lot as a kid (mid to late 90's) and they had excellent documentaries, especially on war. Peter Jenning's the Century was damn good.

And yet it gets the ratings. Ironically it ruins everything, but apparently gives a greater volume of people what they desire. Oh economics! :v:

The "History" Channel hasn't had any actual history on it in a long long time. I have a few friends that are Professors in various history based fields (religion, european history, etc.) and according to them the History channel is more or less a joke in academia.

All their shows are either half assed attempts at history, ridiculous conspiracy theory shows, ridiculous shows about Nostradamus and his kind or reality shows.

I've tried to watch it, but I just can't. Those guys specialize in taking advantage of people.

Oh, you have an in credibly rare item that's worth fifteen thousand dollars? Well, you'll probably get that if you put it up for auction. How does six grand sound?

But of course, this is what all pawn shops do. Any business that promises 'quick cash' -- be it a pawn shop, payday loan place, or one of those 'we buy your old jewelry' spots -- is taking advantage of people's ignorance and/or desperation.

For me, the sole benefit of this show is as a reminder to collectors (of just about anything) that their collections are worthless except in the eyes of someone who collects the same thing.

The only shows truly on history have been repeated countless time among the other lame shows like UFO Hunters, Pawn Stars, etc. Don't they also have stuff like Loggers, ice truckers, etc?

Only thing I've seen remotely related to history was about the Templar Knights, but that's only being played because of Hollywood attention toward the group. Similar to any !@#$%^&* on 2012

Yeah. They have all that random crap that nobody likes. The only reason I watch Pawn Stars is because one of the employees is a moron, and does the most ridiculous things. The Discovery Channel is also starting to get into that business with The Deadliest Catch.

Unfortunately, my TV access was recently cut off, after 10 years of free service. Now I'm stuck with public television and the history channel.

I can watch Pawn Stars simply because they items they buy are somewhat historic occasionally plus its far less stupid then other reality TV shows. However shows like Ice Road Truckers, American Pickers, that logging show, anything about 2012, anything about aliens, and any other show I turn on and has next to no facts in it i can't watch. Other then that i can take the shows like the American history one with a grain a salt and listening more to the facts presented then the stupid commentary.

I was hoping for the US President series again that pretty interesting. I feel sorry for tv as a whole Sci-Fi, History, Disney, Saturday morning TV show where all better years ago
