Donovan McNabb to the Skins

So in return for a 2010 second round pick (37th overall) and a conditional 3rd or fourth rounder in 2011, the Redskins have acquired the 11 year Eagles starter, Donovan McNabb.

The Redskins seem to be in a "win this year or bust" kind of mode. Theyve cut a few young guys, and have brought in seasoned veterans like ex Steelers RB Willie Parker and ex Chiefs RB Larry Johnson. The Redskins still havent done anything with the unit that has failed the last two years-offensive line.

If McNabb doesnt have an offensive line to protect him, hes not going to do better than Jason Campbell. Hes going to get injured, and then Rex Grossman (shudder) will be the starter.

However, if McNabb has a decent offensive line, he can have a great year if he puts his mind to it. He has proven he can win with sub par talent around him. His biggest point of shame in Philly was that he couldnt win a Super Bowl. In Washington, if he leads up to the NFC Championship Game, like he did in Philly 5 times, he will be accepted.

Malcolm Kelly has already said McNabb is the team leader. Meanwhile the ever-shunned Jason Campbell has left voluntary offseason conditioning. Jason Campbell is really tricky. He is a restricted free agent. The Redskins have a first round tender offered, which means if he leaves the Redskins and signs with another team, that team owes the Redskins a first rounder.

It is most likely, with Rex Grossman already on the roster, that Campbell will be traded for a third or fourth round pick.

As a die hard skins fan, I hope this works. But, seeing the teams luck lately with big name veterans (Jason Taylor and Albert Haynesworth), Im not too optimistic

Telling sign of how much they f'd up: They offered Haynesworth for McNabb straight up according to sources. That means Haynesworth (or at least the $100 million version of him) is worth less than a 2nd rounder.

As a diehard Eagles fan:

Good luck basking in those wonderful moments of excitement making it into the playoffs. Enjoy that feeling cause you will never win a superbowl with McNabb.

To be fair they said the same thing about Elway for a while. Not going to compare the two, but Shanahan is a good coach.

I figure that McNabb has at least one good run at the Super Bowl left in him. Assuming that the 'Skins can field receivers that can take punishment and don't get the "dropsy" (because McNabb and pin point accuracy have never been in the same room), then the 'Skins just might make it to the Super Bowl in the next couple of years.

He's worth what the 'Skins paid...is he a Tom Brady or even a Carson Palmer? That's an amusing notion. "Good not Great" describes McNabb to a tee.
