Beer Reviews? YOU MONSTER!

Ok folks. lets be honest with ourselves, how many of you have a fridge that is first used to keep the beer cold and secondly to store food? I'd bet theres a considerable amount in each alliance out there so this arguement of "OMGZ! I HAVE TO SPEND MAH MONEYZ ON BEER???" should just die right now.

Now granted there are a vast amount of non drinkers out there, myself included(zomg! he was a farker and doesnt drink!!!!), so in that case wouldn't the logical step be to inform those asking for said review of this? IRON has previously reviewed a video game for their surrender terms and recently we saw Ivan Moldavi do a milk review

It must be me whos losing it because i keep seeing all of these people screaming to the high heavens over this but yet nobody has come out and said "Well nobody in our alliance drinks beer so we requested to do something else but these evil tyrants made us drink the beer"

So how 'bout it, Zenith? IRON? BAPS? What say yee about beer reviews? I havent heard cries about this from you guys so you mustve found one poor soul who can take a bullet for the alliance. Also i'd be very interested in knowing what exactly was said amongst your alliance about the beer review? The first time it was used i dont recall IRON ever objecting to that..mostly to the monetary part of the terms

Now if you kind folks will excuse me, im off to enjoy a fine glass of chocolate milk with my dinner :smug:

See, the beer reviews are actually IC, because nothing ever says that it has to be a real beer :smug:

In all seriousness, I don't see the problem. It's not like if you fake a review they're going to storm your house and hang you for lying.

If I had to do a beer review, I'd do it IC. Uralica's probably better known for vodka and wine than it is for beer, but there are always other TOOL nations I could RP beer being from :P

Then again, since I'm a non-drinker, I'd probably sound like I was talking out you-know-where. ;)

It's stupid and it's not funny. The same with all those "joke" terms that make no one laugh: stories, pictures, whatever. They're getting as old as April Fools jokes.

Personally i laughed my $@! off at TOOL's story for RIA

It's because the terms are designed to humiliate the defeated alliance that people are opposed to them. That nonsense about it being good-natured fun falls flat on its face when the victorious alliance actually cares if the defeated alliance doesn't do it.

Sorry, but where in any of the terms this war did you see the term 'requirement'. I believe in Zenith's thread it said Fark would be 'unhappy' with them if they didnt do it

also laptop keyboards FTL..more typos than TypoNinja

Surrender terms aren't requirements these days? Might let NPO know, they'll be hella pissed though.

Looking at TOOL's surrender terms thread, the "joke terms" are listed right along with the reparations, presumably TOOL isn't allowed to pick and choose what terms to follow though.

Same thing in the Zenith/OG surrender thread.

Edit: For reference, the Zenith/OG surrender:

Zenith will complete a Beer Review for Fark and this obligation shall not be considered fulfilled until Fark acknowledges their satisfaction to The Grämlins.

These terms have nothing to do with the game. I have no idea why joke terms should be imposed, especially completely OOC terms.

It's a cultural exchange for the betterment of international relations?

Few things:

1) I personally have no problem with the beer reviews or any of the other "Fun Terms" so long as both parties don't mind

2) Perspective is everything and some people may find it an offensive kick in the balls no matter how cute the bow tie you wrap it in is. Just the way things are. Disrespect is an individual interpretation, there is no such thing as a set 'good or evil' and some people will always react differently, that's just life.

3) Technically speaking, a term stating someone must drink, or do anything for that matter, outside of the game should only ever be put into effect if both parties have absolutely NO problems with it/them and are absolutely willing as they are OOC and should really have no place in the game unless all partaking parties are in 100% agreement of said terms. If anyone is at all objective to an OOC term then it is perfectly fine and within their rite to refuse without having to suffer any sort of in game consequences for such.

TL;DR: 1)If both parties are completely fine with it, I see no problem. 2)Perspective changes everything

I do not think people's problem lies in their ability to do it, but rather the principle of the thing. Depending on your perspective, it can either be something fun, or something unnecessary and humiliating.

I'd have no problem drinking a beer, but I would be pretty miffed if I was "forced" to write a review on it - I'd regard it as an unwelcome intrusion into my life outside this game. Some people just like having this mental barrier between the game and stuff outside it, and when it is violated it gives the impression of powerlessness and lack of independence - very unwelcome feelings.

OOC: I can give you a review on some Old E right now.

Tastes like crap. gets the job done.

This completes my review of Old English.

Of course, I did that of my own free will.

If you told me I HAD to do it, you'd be telling your proctologist how it tasted going down (up?) the wrong hole.

Now, there was a huuuge explosion over the optional reviews, which is why I think there really wasn't any problem at the outset, because they were optional.

The faux rage at failure to complete an optional term in a timely manner is just... silly.

Could it have earned goodwill... maybe. Probably not.

Making it mandatory is akin to installing a viceroy in my living room. I'd never stand for that. I didn't start playing this game to write essays and reviews for people. There are better ways of fostering relations, if that is indeed your intention.
