OOC: Choosing Our Journeys in Life

I do not know how to express in words what I express to others what I think. I am a senior this year and I had my life all planned out, laid out ahead in my path. If you pick a path and stick to it, it is the safe way but life does not go the way you plan it. You can plan every reaction and every plan and hide who you are and what you do from everyone else. You can plan out every detail in an effort to stay safe.

But if you plan out everything in order to save safe? If you don't take a chance in life, what do you live for? We could plan out everything in our life, whether you go to college or graduate. There are things we do not plan for that throw us for a loop. Life is full of hurt and that only comes with chances. How can you be truly happy without taking a risk on life?

You could pick a safe job that you are not happy in, you could pick the safe path to never get married, you could pick being a cat lady. You could pick not to try and compete in elections for things, you could pick not to choose your dreams. You could pick to put everything aside in order to stay safe.

But what does it get you? You're constantly telling yourself "I'll come out eventually, there will be a better world eventually." Or if you are the bitter type of person, you do not think there is anything in this world living for at all and you wonder why you continue on at all.

If you are a happy person that has faith in the world, good for you. If you are the person who knows how crooked the world is and know the dark side yet continue on, there is something pushing you. The world is not predictable by any means, it is a crazy world.

There is always something around each corner, it is not predictable as much as you wish to plan it. You can only take full advantage if you let life just go on and live it to the fullest you can. So when planning out your life down to every detail, expect to get thrown off balance. Life never goes as we planned it. You may choose one path but life throws you another curveball.

Only you can define what guides you in this life and what it brings you eventually. Staying safe is an option but without risks, there is nothing worth it out there. You can stay in a bubble or take a leap and succeed in life. It is all up to us.

In general, I find this quote to be fitting for most of what you wrote:

"A pessimist is a well informed optimist".

I don't believe everything we do in life is based on the desire for safety, as much as it is for survival.

The way people go about it is different, and this is what seperates the strong from the weak. Although nowadays you have rights guaranteed by the word of the law, so it isn't as clear as in earlier times when there was no such thing.

I think that a life without dreams is a bad thing. But dreams without a plan are just that--dreams.

If your dream is so real to you that you can see, touch, feel and taste it, you are much closer to a plan. Plans begin with a series of goals; each goal has specific discrete steps. As each step is completed, you are one step closer to your current goal. Once the steps for that goal have been taken, and the goal reached, I see no problem with re-constituting your dream. But, as opposed to many, I believe that dreams have certain qualities.

First among them is this:Any thing you want to achieve or accomplish in your life, you will. If you don't it will be for only one of two reasons:Either you discovered, somewhere along the way, that what your dream required of you to realize was something you were not willing to give, or give up; or

Somewhere along the path to the realization of your dream, you discovered that this was not your true dream to begin with.

I think any dream must have six specific qualities.

A dream must be:

conceivable

believable

achievable

measurable

definable

and controllable.

If any dream does not have each and all of these qualities, it will forever be only a dream. We are built to have dreams, goals, and plans. It's part of our constitutional makeup. I've lived these truths in my life. I've had many dreams, and many dreams have come true for me. They have not all come true. Some I have dismissed, or changed, or altered, or even undone. But I have lived an amazing journey. It's been a Grand Adventure for the first half. I've got a ten-year plan to institute the next half. I'm looking forward to it. The second half is usually different than the first half, but no easier. There are just different rules that you play by. But the basics still hold. I wish you, and everyone, excellent dreams realized. It truly IS an amazing adventure.
