Update: An Anniversary & a War

Today marks the 3-year anniversary of my nation and it has never been stronger. It has been an interesting period of time here on Cybernations. I have met some pretty cool people over the years. I have met some...less cool people also. I have been in some successful wars. I have been in some less successful wars. In fact, GATO-1V started less than 4 months after my nations' establishment (I, like my alliance, were decimated). I picked myself up, dusted myself off, and kept building. My little na

Outsourced: World War II as a Bar Fight

After the last bar fight, America decides that he needs to be the bartender and the bouncer and moves behind the bar. Germany comes to and sees everyone drinking with his money and sees Austria sitting in the corner by himself. Germany, angry that Britain, France, and America took his wallet grabs Austria and makes him stand next to him. Germany then does the same to Czechoslovakia. On the other side of the room, Japan punches China. After a while, America tells them to knock it off. Germany s

Outsourced: World War I as a Bar Fight

This is from "The Economist:" "Germany, Austria and Italy are standing together in the middle of a pub when Serbia bumps into Austria and spills Austria's pint. Austria demands Serbia buy it a complete new suit because there are splashes on its trouser leg. Germany expresses its support for Austria's point of view. Britain recommends that everyone calm down a bit. Serbia points out that it can't afford a whole suit, but offers to pay for the cleaning of Austria's trousers. Russia and S

Questions: What is Your Type?

I get asked all the time what my type is. I usually don't have much of an answer. One: I'm not really that picky. Two: looking back, there isn't really a common thread amongst the guys that I have been attracted to (at least appearance-wise). No specific height, eye-colour, skin-colour, build, blah blah blah. As far as that stuff goes, I have been all over the place. The only real commonality would be personality. I'm not really sure where this whole "some people are attracted to bad boys" thin

Throwing in the Towel

By now we all know the general details of what happened in Tuscon, Arizona: some nut (unaffiliated with an political party) decides to go on a shooting rampage that results in the deaths of six people including a 9 year-old girl. A judge was killed. A Congresswoman was critically wounded. It's a national tragedy. This is a time when all Americans should be one. However what I have seen in the thread here discussing what happens is a group of people at each others' throats. The more I looked at i

Hot Hot Heat!!!

Hot versus cold. We have all been asked this questions, many of us multiple times. Most people who say cold say "You can keep adding clothes. But if you're hot, there's only so much you can take off." Both of those statements are true. I guess your answer to this question may depend, in part, on how much clothing you prefer to wear. Personally, I don't like wearing a lot of clothing. No, I'm no exhibitionist, nor am I a nudist. Clothes are great (well...some clothes are great). It's that the mo

Update: Pictures That Made My Year

The rescue of the Chilean Miners. The New Orleans Saints won the Super Bowl. Conan O'Brien "leaves," then returns, to late night. Spain wins the World Cup in South Africa. Don't Ask Don't Tell repealed Christine O'Donnell, a Senate candidate who didn't know her way around the 1st Amendment. She lost. John Stewart and Stephen Colbert's "Rally to Restore Sanity and/or Fear" was held on the National Mall. John Boehner cried on camera...twice. And he's supposed to be the House S

Update: Good Riddance 2010

For me, this past year was just awful. I spent half the year pining over someone and then proceeded to have my heart stomped on (I'm mostly over it...mostly). My job is really getting to me (don't ask). I find myself always on the cuff of falling into depression. The economy still sucks. I can't really think of any good that came from this year in my life (I'm sure there is something, but I just can't think of anything significant...except getting my camera). I'm over it. Screw you 2010. Get th

True Colours

The Tea Party, in terms of candidates, elected officials, and rank-and-file members, have put an emphasis on governmental and economic conservatism. They advocate for lower taxes, smaller government, and deficit reduction. When asked about positions on social policy, particularly on the campaign trail, these questions are usually brushed aside and left unanswered. This is most likely because the party wants to be seen as en economically/fiscally driven movement (thus, hopefully, drawing more sup

Christmas Songs: Putting a Dirty Mind to Use

I actually wrote this (a slightly different version) on my Facebook page a while back, so I decided to bring it over here. Santa Claus is Coming to town: Santa is a stalker...and possibly a pedophile too. Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer: Rudolph needs to lay off the cocaine. Baby It’s Cold Outside: Someone is getting roofied ("Say, what's in this drink?"). White Christmas: More cocaine Greensleeves: Snotty clothing (quite unsanitary) Angels We Have Heard on High: Sounds like someone has LSD

Dogs For the Win

The age-old question: which are better, cats or dogs? I have heard a lot of cat lovers say cats are better because they are more self-reliant, less needy, blah blah blah. Dog lovers, like myself, say that dogs are man's best friend, they are loyal, blah blah blah. Standard arguments. Usually I say those things (somewhat) in jest and quasi-seriously. Then, the other day, I started thing that dogs are genuinely more useful than cats. We use dogs to help the blind. We use dogs to sniff out bodies i

Update: Another Friday Night Fail

I was leaving a bar Friday night after last call with a bunch of people. One of the people with us was this gorgeous guy. He was some yards away talking with some people when I leaned over to one of my friends and started gushing over him. I thought I was out of audible range. I thought wrong. The girl I was talking about him to made me aware that he was looking over at us and I realized he had heard what I said, pretty much every word. He said something to me, but I don't recall what (my natura

Suck on this McCain

For those who don't know what this means, it means that debate on DADT (which is now a stand-alone bill) can move on to a final vote which will be happening in about an hour and a half.

Update: Here Sheepy Sheepy Sheepy...

I was at a bar with some mates yesterday between shifts. Somehow we got on the topic of eating various animals. Someone mentioned cooking duck is how I remember the conversation starting. One of my friends in the course of the conversation "jokingly" mentioned buying a live sheep to prepare and eat. Well, it turns out that this was not, in fact, a joke. They started looking up places to buy livestock, getting price quotes, the whole deal. This particular friend of mine actually would have gone t

Update: Epilogue, Turning the Corner

It has been almost two weeks since...the "incident." Everyday gets a little better. There are, however, sometimes every now and then when it hits me again, usually at night or early in the morning, but those moments have become fewer and farther between. I mentioned that I was going to send him a message, which I did sometime last week and he responded a day or two later. I won't go into the contents of what was said, but it was pretty much what I think is the end of the story (or so it seems in

Obama's Big Mistake

I was reading another CN'ers blog a minute ago. It was an entry about how President Obama negotiated a deal to extend all of the so-called "Bush Tax Cuts" for two years. Personally I felt like he threw in the towel (like he has done too many times before) and disappointed progressive Americans and deficit hawks that put their lot in with him. But my point isn't really to debate that stuff. What I have been thinking is about how this past election, the Republicans made these tax cuts a major par

Questions: Deal Breakers

I did a post about your "Price of Admission" (which is something about you that your significant other has to put up with) a while back. In that same line of thinking, what about another person are you not willing/able to put up with?

Questions: The Good & the Bad of Christmas Music

Since I have already explained my general attitude of Christmas music, I'll keep this on to the point. What are you favourite and least favourite Christmas tunes? Favourite: O Come, O Come Emmanuel, We Three Kings, most of "The Nutcracker" Least Favourite: Sleigh Ride, Jingle Bell Rock, The Christmas Song

Update: Up, Down, & All Around

This is how I have been this past week. Sometimes I have been laughing uncontrollably. Sometimes I have been incredibly depressed. I have gone from one end of the emotional spectrum to the other, sometimes in a matter of minutes. Roller Coasters were always things that I could only take in small doses. I'm about to O.D. I'm so ready for this to be over. -"Love is Hard" by James Morrison
