A Beer Review - For When I Surrender to Fark

You sit down and think to yourself, "Hey, it's only beer." So you have a few. And then your brain insists on doing the math, trying to figure out just how much you've had to drink. Eventually you figure out that you've actually downed an awful lot. Then you decide to post something in your CN blog about it just so the rest of the world can know that you've intentionally poisoned yourself. And, should you not post for another couple of hours, you hope someone might take the hint and call an amb

The Big Ol 'What Zog Thinks of You' List - Part III

OK, so it's time to have a look at former adversaries or, rather, former adversaries that are still around. I generally prefer the word 'adversary' over 'enemy', since the latter implies some kind of long-term enmity that I'm just not capable of. Disliking someone enough to call them 'enemy' takes an enormous amount of energy and, if you think about it, gives an opponent far more control over you than you realize. Bearing that little digression in mind, here we go: Federation of Armed Nations

The Big Ol 'What Zog Thinks of You' List - Part II

Today it's time to have a look at the sanctioned alliances that weren't covered in my previous list of former homes. As I review the list, the only thing remarkable to me is just how little I know about some of them. So....I'm going to cheat a little bit and include some of the alliances found in The Amazing Sanction Race as well. Mostly Harmless Alliance - I am now on what I believe is my sixth nation. Each time I have re-created, I have been flooded with offers to join various alliances. Ea

The Big Ol 'What Zog Thinks of You' List - Part I

One of the funny things about coming back to CN right before a war starts is that if one has prior high-level government experience, then one is considered to be some sort of expert filled with valuable insight into world affairs. Anyway, as this war began and then expanded, I found myself being asked what I thought about one alliance or another. Finally I thought to myself, "Hey, Self. Why not just put down what you think and then let it be?" And so that's what I'm doing. Here's the really fu

You Know You've Won the War When....

....you get an "I don't care because I'm quitting" PM during wartime. This is especially true when the person sending it self-advertises as a high-ranking government member. Perhaps I should take a step back and explain what I'm talking about. We all know that war isn't about infra, tech, land or casualties. It's all about making people announce that they "don't care" about anything. Once you can do that, you've won. After nearly four years in this place, it's the only part of the war system

Some Quick Wartime Observations

- The lower ranks are the place to be during war. More targets, for one thing. And, as the war drags on, that number increases. - Government members of alliances that want to surrender (but refuse to use the word 'surrender' for some reason) may want to watch what they say in public, lest a door be slammed in their face. - The doctrine of "we won't quit until our friends do" is noble and no one will fault you for it. However, it does have the unintended consequence of prolonging a conflict to

Identity in CN

One of the hazards of attempting a re-roll is that one will be outed somehow. In my case, it was a matter of being myself. A few people noticed certain turns of phrase, familiar (poor) jokes and, of course, the sort of knowledge a newbie shouldn't be privy to. It's all for the best, though. I've often remarked that despite one's attempt at an online persona, one eventually and inevitably turns into oneself. Warts and all. Anyway, hello world. This war is not as stupid as some proclaim, but
