Agora: the crumble begins

The recent DoW against UBD is an example of the serious trouble that Agora is facing. Now, to be clear, it looks like there were members of UBD who made serious mistakes. And, these mistakes necessitate serious consequences. I thought, however, that the DoW which will end up punishing the entire alliance for the actions of a few is a powerful example of how little Agora is respected diplomatically. Instead of a decent amount of reps, MK is rolling all over them like a dog in feces. UBD, who

Is Democracy Good?

I am curious to get your thoughts on a democratic system for alliance polity. Does your alliance directly elect its leaders? Is this a good way to run an alliance? I'll reserve my opinion for a later post.

Dedication: People Not Flags

As some current events on Bob are proving, it is necessary for an alliance to build a strong dedication within its membership - especially government members. This dedication, however, should be more of a relational dedication than a dedication to some cause or ideal. A cause is easy to betray, a friend is much more difficult to betray. I read a book recently that examined top performing corporations and what their successful patterns were. The research team found that top performing corporat

History Lesson: NADC vs. BLEU

PRELUDE TO WAR I offer this as a piece as an educational observation. My former alliance learned some hard lessons in 2008. It would behoove other alliances to learn some of these lessons as well. The NADC/BLEU War was full of valuable lessons and examples. It would be a great disservice to ignore them. _______________ What ACTUALLY happened (Oh the treachery!) First of all, it must be understood that NADC was a political mess before the BLEU War. A large faction of the NADC was

Pacifican Allies: terrible hegemony

The term used by the Vox types for NPO any ally of Pacifica is "hegemony." The idea behind hegemony is a domineering overseer that monopolizes power and influence over a region or another political group. If Pacifica really is a domineering hegemony, then they are really bad at what they do. The fact of the matter is that NPO is exceedingly hands-off when it comes to their allies and other alliances. I have never heard of Pacifica interfering in the sovereignty of an ally. Additionally, there

Erm... did I read this right?

ACV disbanded. Read the announcement here. I hate to interrupt a lovefest, but one particular portion of the post caught my attention. ACV's founder, iClean, got into all sorts of trouble with various alliances - most prominently, NPO. He was removed from power by Pacifica, and ZIed. The assumption was that iClean was gone. However, he claimed this in his farewell address: Did I read that correctly? Was iClean in charge of ACV the whole time in defiance of NPO? Or, am I reading that wrong?

Elitist Trends

Does your alliance fit into the category of quality over quantity, or is it quantity over quality? Recently, I have noticed and been a part of a few trends. Do you also see these trends? Experienced Players are starting to combine together in elite alliances. Tere have been several alliances that have popped up lately that can be termed as being populated by more experienced players - Nemesis, NSO, and TSO. Unlike other start ups, in which a few experienced players get together and start

Why Announce Anything?

Recent posts have shown the truly dangerous ghetto that the CNForums have become for alliance announcements. The boards are infested with roaming observers, waiting to mercilessly flame and troll any post they deem to be from "the bad guys." Even the most mundane topic becomes cluttered with seemingly endless text about hegemony or (more often) outright OOC insults. On the flip side of the flamefests, some topics end up being bandwagon exhibitions where commenters fill pages of mindless hails

Oblivious Membership

In TSO's DoE, I stated the following and I wanted to expand on this without IC impediments. Here is a quick tl;dr - If an alliance is merely playing for sanction, a lot of members (ghosts or otherwise) are necessary. Playing for a high score is basically attempting to expand and grow an AA. TSO is not interested in that. In order to achieve sanction, inactivity and lack of growth have to be tolerated. As NADC found out during the BLEU War, inactivity and a lack of discipline kills an allian

Sweet new Direction

AS you may or may not know (or care). I've left the NADC to help found TSO. The vision of TSO is much closer to where I wanted NADC to go. However, I was too lazy to put the necessary work into making NADC a more compact and elite alliance. I was with NADC for a year. They were my first home. But, onward, to the future! So, with that, I move on... #tso http://tsohq.net

FAQs

I thought I would address a few questions that I get asked four times a day on IRC, but can never answer in the hysterical environment of Alliance Politics (or Alliance Announcements as it is now known). Is Emperor Charles back? There have been wild rumors about EC6's return for a long time now, inside and outside of NADC. No, he is not back. EC6 was an interesting guy. I disagree with much of what he did in FA, but he was wonderful at economics and finance. He helped me out a lot when I fi

CB's Are Moral Standards

Wait, what? I have always been fascinated by the fact that so many alliances are obsessed with having a legit CB before rolling someone. Legit? legit for who? In my experience, most alliance leaders are more interested in the public perception of the commenters on CNForums than anything else. Why is this? Why is public perception so important? In my opinion, CB's are a reflection of the moral standards maintained by a certain alliance. Most alliances try to display moral high ground. Here i

Diplomatic BS

The thought occurs to me today that much of the diplomatic standard fare on Planet Bob these days is redundant. Emmisarial System - I think that is a word. Anyway, embassies. It is assumed that any alliance with decent diplomacy will have a set o embassies for ambassadors from other alliances to come, make announcements, treaty negotiations, etc. This has been the standard modus operandi for some time. However, in reality it does not work that way. Let's say, for example, NADC wanted to tre
