Tahsir
I once returned a library book 13 years overdue. What did you do? Just buy a new one for them?
Mirreille
No I just gave it back. They didn't even charge me a fine, maybe it would have been too much hassle. Edit: The book had been out so long that it still had the old pocket + card system for keeping track of it. They were using a computerised system by the time I brought it back. I'm sure I made a little extra work for someone. Edited February 7, 2009 by Mirreille

HHAYD
Wow...you're lucky. The fines would've piled up over the years... The world's longest library book fine was nearly a hundred years overdue. The book was checked out in the late 1800's and was returned by the person's grandson in the late 1900's or the early 2000's who found the book in an attic. Guess how much the book fine was? It was like over $2000.

JEDCJT
Indeed...But I wonder how did the library find out it was their book? That's just how they are, I suppose. I mean, libraries are one of the few things in the universe we could never figure out.
Mirreille
I think in New Jersery, or at least the libraries I've dealth with here, the maximum fine is the cost of replacing the book. I'm sure the book was OOP(out of print), so coming up with a fair value would have been a nuisance.

Stormcrow
Well, alot of good ideas came out of this thread. It's served its purpose, however, so it'll be locked and allowed to die with dignity.
