The Wehrmacht has been ordered to prepare for Operation Weserübung. The 11. Infanterie-Division has been ordered to withdraw from operations in Germany to take part in this upcoming operation.

Messages were sent to both the Muscovite and Babylonian governments informing them of planned operations against Belarus and Hungary-Slovakia, the goal of such operations to prevent the handover of the Subcarpathian Voivodeship to Hungary, as well as forcing Belarusian troops out of Poland, which is to be placed under Alvonian protection.

It was no secret that wars that started in Eastern Europe had an awful tendency to become global affairs. As the reports from Carthaginian intelligence indicated something was about to happen and that at some point it might very well link back to Carthage the decision was made to make a diplomatic outreach to the parties involved even though they were on another continent. In line with this a message would be sent to the government of Alvonia.

To whomever it may concern,

War, it cripples economies, destroys empires and leads to the greatest atrocities imaginable. I am convinced that you, just as me, wish to avoid this if even remotely possible. We have recently received word of increased tensions regarding the status of Poland. To aid in keeping the peace the Kingdom of Carthage hereby extends you a formal invitation to attend a conference in Carthage where common ground may be found and a peaceful resolution achieved. If you accept you will be taken care of entirely and you security will be guaranteed by the Carthaginian Defence Forces.

Sincerely,

Anysus I, King of Carthage

The following message was sent back to Carthage:

TO: Anysus I, King of Carthage

FROM: The Desk of Director Markus Wilding

SUBJ: Poland

Honorable King,

Alvonia has long been Poland's protector and has once protected it from foreign aggression. We have no qualms of doing so again, and wish to make it clear to Hungary-Slovakia and Belarus that another partition of Poland will not happen under our watch. Therefore, after consultations with members of my cabinet I have ordered Karoline Dressler to Carthage in order to preserve Poland as a whole. Two members of the Schwarze Korps will serve as Dressler's personal security and will each be armed with a Glock 19.

Sincerely,

Director Markus Wilding

A new recruitment drive increased the Heer's numbers by 6,530 new recruits. A number of trainees had now also completed Schwarze Korps training and have been pressed into service in Germany, while the previously-understrength 4. Infanterie-Division was raised to it's full divisional strength. The newly-raised 12. Infanterie-Division would still be understrength for some time until a new recruitment drive could be launched, but it too saw a numbers increase to 15,000 total soldiers. Reshuffling across the board also pulled back divisions from Poland, leaving only the 6. Infanterie-Division and 3. Panzer-Division in the protectorate.

Skoda has been commissioned with the production of a new self-propelled artillery system for the Heer's Marinestoßtruppregiment. This new self-propelled howitzer will be introduced immediately into Marinestoßtruppregiment service, starting in Germany, and is the same caliber as the Heer's standard Panzerhaubitze 2000. While this system, which has been named the Panzerhaubitze DANA (sl), will require additional setup time in advance by forward artillery operators its wheeled design will allow for greater mobility and easier maintenance, requirements put forward by both the Heer and Kriegsmarine in their attempt to find a new method of organic artillery support for the Marinestoßtruppregiment, which currently only has GrW 17 mortars. 100 vehicles will be delivered to the Marinestoßtruppregiment by the end of the month.

After nearly two years in service, the Wehrmacht has compiled a list of complaints, comments and suggestions from crews, engineers and high command on the Panzer VII cavalry tank. Current problems include:

  • Lower hit probability compared to Leopard 2A5
  • Slow load time for dual cannons
  • Brake issues, including but not limited to failures to apply pressure, failure to depress, and other mechanical issues

In order to improve and fix these issues, the Militärische Forschung und Entwicklung division of the Wehrmacht, in conjunction with engineering firm Krupp, has been commissioned with designing new systems to solve mechanical issues with the brakes and solve the slow load time problem. Contracts have been awarded to Henkel, Jenoptik, Lauterbach, and PTF to design, build and implement fire control systems with designs being approved by the MFE and Wehrmacht.

Porsche has been brought onto the joint Wehrmacht-Krupp team that is working on solving brake and loading issues for the Panzer VII. So far, Krupp has provided one design which they believe will solve the brake issue. MFE has not put forward a design.

In the electronics division of the Panzer VII improvement project, Jenoptik has put forward a design that uses optical sensors to detect and highlight unknown tanks, although software bugs have limited its usefulness. Henkel and Lauterbach have put forward designs that use an autoloading mechanism to target and assist the gunner in firing on enemy units. PTF has been working with all companies involved to ensure compatibility with current Wehrmacht systems.

Meanwhile, the 5. Panzer-Division has been reformed, while the 7. Panzer-Division has been raised. The 5. Panzer-Division will head to Baden-Wuerttemburg while the 7. Panzer-Division has been ordered to the Czech states. This has increased the total armored forces of the Wehrmacht to 800 total tanks.

In case Vienna is threatened by imminent military invasion, bombing, or a nuclear/biological/chemical attack, several top-secret locations have been cleared for use by Director Wilding and his cabinet should the evacuation of Vienna become necessary. These locations include:

  • Berchtesgaden, which holds the Kehlsteinhaus, which will serve as a secondary military headquarters and protection bunker.
  • Neustift im Stubaital, which holds a bunker which has been built into the side of the mountains surrounding the small town. This location will also allow easy evacuation to Milan should Alvonia be completely overrun.
  • Lubanowo, which features an underground bunker that is rated to withstand most ballistic missiles. Provisions are stored inside that can last Director Wilding, his staff, and their families for a year.

Today in business news in Alvonia, Jonatan Beyersdorf, Minister of Industry, has bought out Krupp, as well as Volkswagen in a deal that cost Mr. Beyersdorf over 2 billion Reichsmarks. Isaak von Essen, Interior Minister, has been rumored to be in talks with Jenoptik's, Bavaria Film Studios, and Carl-Zeiss-Stiftung's boards to purchase large shares of the companies, possibly even taking ownership of one.

With the collapse of the American state, Joint Army Base Prague was seized by the Wehrmacht. Any former American personnel were detained, "suspicions of Ultranationalism" it was said. Equipment, especially armored personnel carriers and infantry fighting vehicles, were seized as well. While small arms were not useful to the Wehrmacht because of caliber differences, they would be kept anyway, as well as ammunition found, to be distributed to militia and reforming units in case of a war where either was necessary. Any intelligence from the former United States was also captured by BND agents and analyzed, especially if it concerned secret projects the American military had undertaken.

Meanwhile, Porsche has now submitted a design to solve the brake issue on the Panzer VII tank. Working in conjunction with the Wehrmacht, Krupp and Porsche have also submitted separate designs for an autoloader - Krupp's design loads a total of five, while Porsche's loads a total of six. Both designs have also been proven to work with Jenoptik's optical sensors, although programming bugs still plague the system. Lauterbach's combined autoloading and targeting system is currently favored over Jenoptik's design.

Church bells rang in Lodz on a day covered with dark clouds. Storm clouds, thought Hauptmann Szymon Sokal. Fitting, given what Alvonia was about to do. He had been here before in Lodz, taken trips with his family before and even met his wife there. He gripped his K40 tighter as he watched his squads pile equipment and supplies onto the trucks. Technically, he was supposed to be watching for ultranationalists and radicals who would take the Wehrmacht's withdrawal as a chance to strike, but instead he couldn't help but focus on the people watching the Wehrmacht leave. It had been announced only hours ago, but they still came to watch them go. Some gave gifts, snacks, or trinkets crafted in their homes. All the soldiers who received these small gestures couldn't help but break down into tears. For years, Alvonia had protected the Polish people from trouble and strife, fought to protect them in Carthage, and now here they were, abandoning them, or so Sokal thought. His men had finally finished loading up the trucks, and he could hear the familiar sounds of the Panzer VIIs rolling down a nearby road. Each squad got into its own truck, waving their final goodbyes. Some of the soldiers in Sokal's platoon had family here, and that tore at him immensely. As Sokal was about to get into a truck, a little boy no older than 8 tugged on his uniform. Although he didn't say a word, Szymon already knew the question on his lips. Why? Why are you abandoning us?

"Nie martw się, mały chłopiec. Będziemy z powrotem wkrótce." was all Sokal could say to him.

First casualties from Germany - Alvonia mourns

A funeral service held for the 152 Wehrmacht personnel killed in action in Germany today

As the news of the first casualties reaches the Alvonian homefront, the Alvonian people mourn and weep for those lost in the first hour of combat. Among the dead were natives of Austria, Bayern, Niederschlesien and the Czech states, although the Wehrmacht has refused to give a list of names to non-family members. A statement from the Chief of Staff's office said that "we are not releasing the names so that current operations in Germany can maintain security [...] and to protect the grieving families of those who lost today." Director Wilding ordered all flags to be flown at half-mast today and for the rest of the conflict, stating that the Alvonian people needed to stay strong for the Wehrmacht. "Our cause is justified and necessary," said Karoline Dressler from an undisclosed location, "that is what we in Alvonia have to remember. The Wehrmacht will be victorious in this campaign, and we will make sure those we lost did not die in vain."

Peace Declared in Germany - Alvonia Relieved, Angered

mumbai_wideweb__470x303,0.jpg

A vigil held for the dead and lost as a result of Operation Honey Sun

News came today that peace had been declared in Germany with the Northlands and Alvonia, resulting in the transfer of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to Alvonian control. While this peace comes at the cost of 308 Wehrmacht personnel dead, another 129 wounded and nine declared MIA, numerous Alvonian citizens in both Baden-Württemberg and Bayern voiced displeasure in the fact that only a portion of their North German brothers and sisters were reunited with Alvonia, and the larger goal of clearing Brandenburg of ultranationalists apparently was not achieved. According to some citizens, the sacrifice of the Wehrmacht was "completely disproportionate" to the gains made, and many believe a longer struggle should have been conducted against the Northlands to prevent what many in Baden-Württemberg and Bayern call the "subjugation" of their German kin by a foreign power. Director Wilding has refused to comment on these developments.

Posthumous Iron Crosses Awarded

In line with the losses and conclusion of the war with the Northlands, three Iron Crosses (First Class) have been awarded to three members of the 10. Infanterie-Division who, in spite of overwhelming numbers and sure defeat, fought against a much larger Northlands unit, permitting the retreat of their squad. For their heroics which cost them their lives, the three have been posthumously awarded the Iron Cross by Director Wilding.

New Foreign Minister Appointed - Tresler Resigns

Amid disagreements and what Karoline Dressler called "certain disappointments" former Foreign Minister Edmund Tresler resigned today, refusing to give a statement to Alvonian press. His replacement, who has reportedly been in discussions with Director Wilding since early March, is Irish-born Finn Powers, a veteran of the Irish diplomatic corps. His style has been described by others as "aggressive" and Director Wilding hopes that his mastery of German, Czech, and Polish as well as other international languages will help in Alvonia's new foreign affairs orientation.

Subversive elements in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern are being cataloged and removed by the Schwarze Korps. Intelligence from the former Brandenburgian state, as well as propaganda that had been distributed in the area by the Northlands, is being collected and cataloged. Former Brandenburgian military bases in the area are also being seized and searched for any relevant information or technology.

Finn Powers, Joachim Köhl, Dalibor Biskup, and Jonatan Beyersdorf have been instructed to purchase as many shares in German-based companies in both Alvonian and Northlands-controlled areas. The intent of these purchases is to force economic pressure on Northlandic Germans. It is hoped that these companies will soon be bought out completely and will be totally owned by Alvonian citizens.

Total strategic missiles, of both Pershing II and RK-55 type, have been increased. 25 Pershing II missiles are now in service, alongside 35 total RK-55.

In addition to these new missiles, research into Ebola-tipped missiles is underway. It is hoped that in addition to causing severe casualties, the spread of the Ebola virus will infect many more enemy troops and cause massive damage to morale. Warheads equipped with these will be in service alongside sarin and tabun gas warheads.

After a month in development, Lauterbach's autoloading and targeting suite has been approved for use on the Panzer VII by Director Wilding and OKW. In addition to this, Porche's autoloading system has been approved. Krupp's design has been approved to fix the brake issue. These improvements and new designs will be immediately implemented in the Panzer VII, which has now been given the designation Panzer VII Ausf. E.

Wilding and his staff, along with body doubles for all ministers and Wilding himself, were sent to each of the fallback locations, and to Milan. A request was sent to Milan to shelter the Alvonian government, as it was feared Vienna would be subjected to a military invasion soon and none of the fallback locations were deemed secure.

News of Peace - German Alvonians Angered

fflTC2i.png

A Wehrmacht soldier outside of Prague. In the background, elements of the Wehrmacht that were in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern can be seen.

News broke today of a possible peace deal being signed, which has lead to extreme anger and even riots across Baden-Württemberg and Bayern. Local leaders were quick to denounce the actions of the Eastern Bloc, Milan, and the Alvonian Government, declaring the peace deal "unimaginable" and "the greatest shame since 1933". Riots calling for the refusal of the peace deal and continuation of the war against the Eastern Bloc erupted in Munich, Ulm, Nuremburg and Stuttgart. Calls have also come from Baden-Württemberg and Bayern politicians and leaders for Alvonian citizens in the former Polish states to passively resist Eastern Bloc influence and not to give up their Alvonian citizenship. There has been no response other than increased police presence from Director Wilding's government.

Feeling comfortable in the signing of peace, the Wehrmacht has released a total list of casualties as a result of the Eastern Bloc-Alvonian war.

Riots Engulf Bayern, Baden-Württemberg

Anniversary+Bombing+Dresden+Second+World

Alvonian riot police in Stuttgart

Director Wilding today officially deployed heavier riot police and special operations police to the states of Baden-Württemberg and Bayern, noting the downward spiral the two states were heading into. In a statement also released today, Director Wilding condemned the actions local leaders were taking, reminding the population in all of Alvonia that "the situation we are in is not permanent." Local leaders remained unconvinced, and it seems that if the police cannot handle the rioters, the situation may devolve rapidly. Many citizens polled voiced their disappointment that Alvonia had been partitioned, and all of the work that had gone into protecting Poland in Carthage had been thrown away by Head of Government Karoline Dressler, as well as the liberation of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern having been totally reversed by the Bucharest Accords. Robert Hofer, the representative for Bayern in the Reichstag, stated that "Those we graciously gave land to [Prussia] have used their allies to force us to give them land that has been part of our nation for years. We have been humiliated, and the only way we can regain our honor...is to show the world that we mean business. Next time, we will not stand down."

Operations in Südtirol-Trentino

In Südtirol-Trentino, the Wehrmacht began to move into the area to secure it from ultranationalists and Bolsheviks. Work also began to bring civilian systems back online and sync communications with Alvonian systems.

Fearing the possibility of another war brought upon the opportunistic Eastern Bloc, all borders would soon be crowded by Wehrmacht Pioniers constructing barbed wire, tank obstacles, and of course laying extensive and complex minefields, as usual mixing anti-personnel and anti-tank mines. At the end of these minefields would be no less than three machine gun nests, utilizing both MG3 and M3M machine guns mounted on tripods to cover the minefields and prevent infantry attempts at defusing the mines. If mine-clearing vehicles were brought up, installations were also built for anti-tank guided missiles.

With the war over, the Wehrmacht expanded and raised a new division - the 13. Infanterie-Division. This division would never be in want of support units, as it would be given enough support units to act almost as its own Heersgruppe if the situation called for it. Apart from that, the Schwazre Korps would see a very large increase indeed - their numbers now exceeded that of a normal Wehrmacht infantry division. And although there was no port for it to stay by its landing craft, the Marinestoßtruppregiment would also be increased.

Private to the UGR

Dear sir,

As there is currently no port from which we could reasonably ship your purchase from, we will instead send experts to the United Guyana Republic to assist in building factories to construct these new tanks under production license. The one-time cost for this license and production run will be 1,250,000,000 Reichsmarks, which I have been informed is exchanged on a 1 to 1 ration with your currency.

Signed,

Finn Powers, Minister of Foreign Affairs

Dear Mr. Powers,

I am disappointed that Alvonia has no way to ship product as it would have been convenient, but after speaking with High Command and even President Wimbledon we have come to the conclusion that the price and work needed to be brought up is a small price to upgrade our tank corps. We accept this offer and shall have your experts flown out here to help in the production of facilities and procurement of the license. Do let us know when you will send the experts and we will accommodate them as guests to the Republic.

Thank you,

Jean Hollande.

The Wehrmacht has now completed bringing civilian systems back online and have synced them with the rest of the nation. In addition, anyone who had ideas of nationalism, normal or otherwise, were carefully watched and warned not to become too radical lest they face the wrath of the Wehrmacht.
