Texas in a State of National Emergency

The Texas Chronicle hasn't been able to release last weeks paper as a result of a nuclear attack on Austin in the middle of the night. From gathered information, we can confirm that congress was already in session however the location of President O'Reilly and Vice President Denard is currently unknown. The location of the Secretary of State, Matt Damon, is also unknown however he had released a letter before stating that Texas was wishing to join a defense bloc which could help in the general defense of Texas. But again, this information can not be made factual with the limited information The Chronicle currently has. Death tolls are estimated to be around one million people, with another possible million who will be killed of sickened from nuclear fall out.

The government, which was having a few communication problems before the attacks, did not have time to react when the Nation of SERIOUS invaded from the west, starting their attack on El Paso. A few cruise missile attacks preemptively struck in El Paso, resulting in mostly civilian deaths of around 95 people. A few medium sized structures were also destroyed, along with a few 20 soldiers along the border. The slaughter in El Paso continued until communication was later lost as a result of the Electra-Magnetic Pulse that came from the nuclear explosion in Austin.

What we can confirm is that one day after the attack, someone, hopefully part of the government, ordered a retaliation in the form of dog fights, one bombing run, and reportedly a few cruise missile strikes. From where we are operating in San Antonio, we can not confirm what other local governments have survived however it seems likely that every state government should either still exist, or at least be good enough to function. "Our Republic has suffered a cowardly and disgusting attack by a currently unconfirmed country to the West of us. In order to secure the safety of the people of Central Texas, I have signed an Executive Order declaring a State of Emergency for all of Central Texas. This means that all resources will be diverted from normal things like road upkeep order State Park maintenance to defense spending and the military to get a hold on our state and try to get us into a stable situation. I have also declared a State of Martial Law to give the military more authority in what is going to be a very hard job for them. I promise this is constitutional, because the Central Texas Constitution says directly that the Governor, or executive in charge, can, in times of grave emergency, order a State of Martial Law if the congress is unable to convene to vote on the matter. I have called an emergency session of the State Congress here in San Antonio to get things moving again. Please try to work with our military personnel as they try to keep our country safe."

With Governor Lionhearts two declarations, we have seen a huge influx of military forces however it is unknown where they are going and what they are going to do to keep us safe. The condition in other States may be much worse, however we wont know until either mass communication is restored or our State Government tells us what the situation is. What we can count on is that Governor Lionheart has promised that the military will not violate constitutional rights of the people of Texas, however, because of the declaration of martial law, the military has the right to disperse all protests, declare curfews, perform lawful arrests, and fire at "armed threats".

The State Guard is currently accepting anyone willing to sign up to fight, so long as they are able bodied and have a clear record.We recommend that if you own a weapon of any sort, you do not have it unconcealed when in public because you may be mistaken for a enemy combatant. [size="5"][b]PRESIDENT FOUND - NATION OF SERIOUS CONFIRMED TO HAVE ORDERED ATTACK[/b][/size]

It can now be confirmed that President O'Reilly was found with a group of Marines just outside of San Antonio. The State Guard saw a group of well armed people escorting a VIP a mile off of a state highway and practically engaged them until discovering that it was a squad of Marines who were taking the President to a bunker before the missile hit. He entered San Antonio under the escort of nearly 100 Marines, 400 National Guardsmen, five helicopters, and three tanks yesterday morning. Governor Lionheart invited the President to stay in the governor's mansion here in San Antonio, which he seemed to have accepted after a few reports of him being "spotted" there by civilians.

Yesterday afternoon, only a few hours after making it here to San Antonio which was reported to be many miles of blind walking, President O'Reilly gave a speech in front of the Alamo. Stating that, "Because I can confirm that it is now impossible for congress to adjourn as a result of the attacks, I am going to get into contact with all of the governors still in a position of power and request a Declaration of War from their legislatures if possible, or from them if they cannot convene. May 12th, 2172 has been a terrible day for Texas, however we must now retaliate if possible and retake our country, making the next few hours our finest. Standing in front of this monument to the will of man to die for freedom, I swear with my sacred honor that I will get revenge for those who died in Austin."

The President did not accept any questions however he did confirm in his speech that SERIOUS was in fact the nation that blindly attacked Texas. We don not know what governors or legislatures he was able to contact, however it seems that he is getting some work and progress made. Earlier today, he declared a National State of Emergency, and said he would be using the governors of the States as a temporary legislature to make decisions until a national congress can be reformed. No lawsuits have been made against the constitutionality of this, so it still stands as. Meanwhile, martial law continues throughout our state, suppressing some violent protests and also a few peaceful ones in San Antonio which resulted in peaceful arrests - most of whom were released the following morning.

The crippled military of Texas, while doing the best it can to fight SERIOUS forces in the west and deal with absolute anarchy in eastern and north eastern parts of the country, may not be fully equipped to launch a full scale invasion of SERIOUS if it would be deemed necessary. Thousands of men seem to be signing up to join the Army, State Guard, Marines, and Air Force, however these newly trained soldiers may not fair as well on that battlefield as a fully equipped army ready for battle and well fed. "This is why" says the President "that I have called our long standing friends in the Kingdom of Thaen to ask for their help in defending Texas. Our allies have been more then willing to cooperate, and I can guarantee that they will not back down from their threats."

Thaen is well known to have many, many nuclear weapons, possibly more then the supposed eleven that SERIOUS has, which could result in a retaliatory strike on SERIOUS. Meanwhile, President O'Reilly released an Official Declaration of War today, "on behalf of the People of Texas" against the Nation of SERIOUS. The State Guard has reported back to Governor Lionheart that almost all of Central Texas has been contained, for the exception of Austin, and that some sects of the Republic's army are being found in military bases - the largest being Fort Hood near Houston. President O'Reilly told us that he would soon be mobilizing the National Guard to enter Houston to restore law and order and end the reigning anarchy in the area which may soon spread to the suburbs and satellite cities south of Houston. The Space Center in Houston has reported to still be functioning, and Texas' only satellite in space having taken pictures of Austin from up high in the sky. We can only hope that riots and anarchy do not start in Galveston as well.
