Doom

Fire erupted in the jungle. Scrambling forces quickly lost cohesion and men had only the goal of returning to their homes. Casualties were sustained, but many were able to escape. No guerilla camps were being established, no bases of operations. Soldiers simply stripping down and returning to their homes. The time would come. In the South, the Communist party began its march. Securing their province as the new capital, they poised themselves to take control. Governor Garang Urah sent a reply to the UFE:
We accept. Our forces will accept aid and training, in return joining your forces as an ally. We have secured the province fully and welcome the UFE to use our southern ports to launch military operations.
Meanwhile, Sukarno's package would reach its destination in Jakarta. Sukarno, now dead as a result of UFE hunter-killer operations, would make one final address, posthumously. From a privatized, independent broadcast center, the message would broadcast to the world.
Leaders and citizens of the world, I come before you today in the gravest of circumstances. Earlier this morning, the United Federation of the East launched an invasion of overwhelming force against our small republic, destroying our ability to effectively counter-attack. This does not come with a justification, a rationale for war. They demand ownership of our territorial waters, the capitulation of our republic, and appeasement of their goals. They seek to destroy our way of life and conscript us as a slave soldier in their bid for political dominance of the world. Just like the Romans, they would attempt to subjugate a people to fuel their corrupt empire, but like the Germanic tribes, we will not fade from the pages of history. We will resist this empire of much greater power til the end of our lives. I call upon the nations to form a Coalition of the Free World to combat the powers of unjust dominance and hegemony. Now is a pivotal time in history. If those nations who consider themselves free do not act now to halt this beast of oppression, the scales will tilt in its favor, tilt to the side of the slave chains and furnaces of war. I implore you not for my sake, but for each of yours, and for the citizens of the world. Will we enter into another age of darkness, slide backward into the drudges of the past? Or will we stand together to end this threat and continue forward to a more peaceful world? Perhaps we must sacrifice that principle to ensure it lives in the future, but it is our only chance. You must act now, and we must act together.
Doom

The unexpected and massive UFE strike crippled the retaliatory ability of the Sumatran Defense Forces, effectively rendering an organized and conventional counter attack nigh impossible. President Sukarno saw no other choice. In private to his defense minister, he relayed the order:
Private To: Director of the Department of Defense Johannes Hendriks From: President Sukarno Message: UFE Invasion of the island emminent. Do not mount conventional counter-attack. Evacuate all military facilities. Prepare for asymmetrical warfare. Utilize Contingency Plan: Ourang Medan, conduct insurgency and guerilla warfare operations. Do not yet engage UFE forces. I repeat, do not yet engage UFE forces.
The massive invasion of the UFE would be virtually uncontested. As their forces crossed the straits and began landing, those troops who were not killed in the initial barrage retreated to the jungles and mountains of the interior, stripping themselves of their identification as members of the SDF. Indeed, UFE strikes were highly effective at neutralizing military installations such as communications and radar. Although strikes against airfields were redundant, the SDF had not yet formalized an air force, and airfields hit were largely Minilla Island(that was the nation before me?) relics housing training aircraft and non-combat staff for the development of air forces. President Sukarno chose to make no statement in the affirmative or negative to the surrender terms, yet. In the South, the UFE would find a surprise. The Communist government of the province seemed more than willing to accept and appease UFE rule. Provincial governor of Southern Sumatra Garang Urah would send a message extending an olive branch to the UFE forces:
In Southern Sumatra, you will find an ally. We have struggled politically against the shameless and weak libertarian ideology gripping our nation. The provincial militia stands at 30,000 strong and are loyal to the Party. We will rise against the lost of this nation to claim it for the worldwide Revolution, and I promise you that you will find our foreign policy agreeable to your aims.
The last act of Sukarno before his evacuation of Medan was to record a message to Sumatra's allies and the world. At this point communications were down, but the tape was passed to a civilian postal company, which would rush the package to the western side of the island. It would be sent to the OU protectorate to be broadcast to the international community as soon as it arrived. The UFE could not be defeated in Sumatra by conventional ground tactics, the SDF was not prepared for that, anyway. This island was their home, however, and they would play their game on their home turf. Slowly bleed the beast to slow it down. OOC: Total standing forces for Sumatran Army: 32,370 Total Standing for Communists: 30,000 I will use all of my conscripts for the insurgency: 74,220 Tanks to Communists: 442 So my total sides: Sumatran Insurgency: 106,590 soldiers Communist Appeasers: 30,000 soldiers, 442 tanks
3. Instead of fleeing I could RP insurgency right? Is that within the rules?
4. I like Europe v. Asia personally.
5. I would side with wherever my neighbors are, considering my nation's stance. Perhaps there is a place for an active neutral? Or I could fight in a more asymmetrical format? I'm sure there are plenty of options, wars are seldom if ever black and white.
6. I'm interested. I hardly know anything about rping war, and I'm a weak nation, but I'm interested.
7. Working on a Bachelors in International Relations, right now I do manual labor odd jobs.
8. The Republic of Sumatra congratulates Grand Papua on the successful completion of elections. In addition, Sumatra invites Grand Papua to send a delegation to meet with the Sumatran leadership at their convenience.
9. Sumatran Petrol will endorse the incumbent in this election, citing his and his party's free market approach and defense of individuals freedoms. SP would send a stipend of $50,000 to their campaign fund. The Sumatran Government has a policy of non-interventionism and will not make a bid of support in any other nation's domestic elections. However, they noted the legality and freedom of SP to spend its money and issue statements in any capacity they desire. OOC: Hope that's ok, don't know if your nation bars campaign contributions in any way.
10. Socialist and Liberal Democratic Political Groups Gain Ground in Southern Sumatra After a brief holdout on provincial and municipal elections in Southern Sumatra, results were finalized to reveal a rather dichotomatic split from the rest of the nations political landscape. Southern Sumatra was the only province to elect Communist party candidates to the Senate and the trend has followed through to the office of Provincial Governor as well as several mayorships. When asked about the results, President Sukarno had this to say: "I fail to see how citizens exercising their freedom of choice should concern myself or anyone else, although I suppose I understand your suppositions as members of the media. The province will still be bound by federal mandates but of course, it is the national government's domestic policy to dictate as little as we have to. Couple that with the high level of confederation otherwise within this nation and I think it should be apparent that the people of Southern Sumatra can and should strive to create their own path within this nation"
11. OOC: Just a note, I welcome in character statements in this thread if anyone feels like hailing or criticizing my actions. I'm a genuine libertarian and the Sumatrans will always enjoy stimulalating and gentlemanly (or womanly) political debate.
12. I suppose I look for to seeing how time paradoxes are dealt with and RP'd. The most obvious, is a new future created or would we have perceived the changes all along? In reality, I hold to the latter, but I am interested to witness you're RP'd view.
13. Northern Province of Aceh Announces Privitization Efforts Today, the provincial government of Aceh, the Northernmost province of Sumatra, announced that it will be taking steps to increase levels of privitization within its borders, in line with the goals of the federal government. Governor Patak authorized the privitization of public parks, emphasizing that the mandate only applied to municipal parks and not provincial level state forests or preserves. "We will look in to the possible privitization of provincial parks at a later date, but as it stands there is a big push for conservation of endangered species that reside in the state park, including orangutans, Sumatran rhinos and tigers, and the additional cultural tenet of protecting natural resources to prevent a potential economic or ecological collapse. That said, public parks at the city and municipal level will be up for bid to individuals or organizations later this month." Sumatran Petrol has expressed interest in purchasing the largest park in the capital, abating public dissent by providing figures of job creation and economic stimulus in indepent research projections. Owner Samihuriyah made a statement regarding SP's intents and plans for the project: "We are hoping that this project will be the beginning of a growing arm of our corporation, transforming us into a multi-industrial company. With enough time, we expect to create a new branch dedicated to operation of private parks. This should have massive benefits which include creating thousands of jobs, improvement of parks through economic competition, and economic stimulus which will bolster the economy here, and hopefully when the other provinces follow suit, throughout the Republic. Sumatran Petrol is now, as it always has been, about the satisfaction of the customer through unrivalled quality in our products and services. This has been true of our petroleum products, and this will also be true of our new venture here. There is a reason our business is successful, and we hope to keep that going." Samihuriyah also said that admission to the first park will be free, with utilities such as barbies, athletic fields, and concessions will have service fees attached. He has also said that after the first quarter of operation, SP will evaluate data collected, and attempt to improve and streamline the experience.
14. "Very well! Please follow me." Sukarno led the Princess to an open top car with a driver in officer's uniform. In front and behind were black Land Rovers. Waiting with the door open to the convertible was Director of Internal Affairs Khadijah, a beautiful 30 year old of Malay descent. "Welcome to Sumatra," she greeted warmly, "Your security detail can embark one of the SUV's if you choose. I do hope you enjoy your time here." "After you, m'lady," Sukarno said, allowing Princess Yenna to enter the car first." With that they were off. Upon entering the city, more and more Sumatrans lined the streets, many waving handheld flags of both Sumatra and Australia which had been distributed to the crowds. Some threw flowers native to the island before the motorcade as the civilians cheered. Upon reaching the Executive Headquarters, a large Dutch colonial building, the party disembarked, with a civilian extending a bouquet to the Princess. Sukarno turned to Yenna, "I thought we could take a stroll through the garden around back. It's such a lovely day and correct me if I'm wrong, but you seem the type to be engaged rather than sitting in a conference room, yes?"
