    I gave up after five pages... That said here's my take: NEW knew better than to ask us to stay out of the war. Would they have preferred it? Probably. Would that have honored our treaty? Yes. Would that have honored our friends? No. No alliance should ask their friends and allies to stay out of their defense, just as no friends or allies should allow themselves to stay out. The most you can do is ask. I would never demand a true friend to do anything.
