  1. OOC: Where is the island, because it either belongs to Australia or Greater Pacifica.
  2. Leopold led the 4 soldiers to his home just outside the city in the hills. He walked the whole way into town, so he had to walk the whole way back. The hills were covered in snow, and the deep gray of the sky yielded even more now. The snowfall began as he started walking down his driveway. Leopold's despair was growing as he stepped up onto his porch. As he prepared to open the door he felt the aged wood of his threshold for the last time. A single tear rolled down his cheek. He slowly rotated the handle and opened the door, walking into the living area immediately to his right. His wife sat in a rocking chair before the window, she smiled at him, "Leopold, back so soon? Where are the groceries?" Leopold, the tear still clinging to the side of his face, smiled, turning up his mustache. He slowly walked to her and knelt, grabbing both of her hands in both of his, "I'm afraid...groceries are the least of our worries, Elsa, my dear." Her smile slightly faded, "What, what do you mean Leopold? What's going on." Leopold didn't have the heart to tell her, but the picture would be made clear as the soldiers entered the house, their boots making quite a noise on the wooden floor. The apparent leader of the soldiers spoke into a walkie-talkie strapped to his shoulder then came into the living area. "Please gather your belonging, the buses leave in 30 minutes. If you cannot gather what you need quickly enough, you will have to leave without it." Elsa looked worried at this point, "Leopold, what does he mean darling? What does he mean leave?" Leopold's voice was shaky, but he held the slight smile on his face as another tear rolled from his eye, "We have to go, Elsa. They're making us leave the village. Shh, shh, it's ok, we'll go to Franz's house in the city, he'll take care of us." Now Leopold, as Elsa began to cry, did something he had never done to her before. He lied. "We'll be back. They say we can come back soon, don't worry, we'll be back." As he said this he hugged her as she wept. The soldiers continued talking then spoke to the two villagers, "Time is growing short. Collect your things." Leopold finally helped Elsa up and did the best he could to grab everything they needed in a hurry. There were four suitcases by the end, and Leopold carried two. Elsa struggled, and one of the more sympathetic soldiers took her suitcases for her. As they walked down the hill, Leopold took one last glance at his small cottage on the hill. One last tear rolled down both their cheeks as they turned and headed for the buses. --- Their ride was long for a trip in the Rheinmark as they were dropped off at the temporary housing on the provincial border between Valhöll and Baden-Württemberg. They had already placed the call to their son Franz, who lived in Stuttgart. He was their eldest and was the one who had left to pursue a career in the auto industry. He had been very successful, one of the few who survived the automotive reception without going bankrupt. In fact, he had moved up and was now the Vice-President of Advertising for Porsche. After a few hours, Franz had made it up to the temporary housing and went through all the necessary paperwork to check them out. Franz looked a lot like his father did when he was younger. Franz was a man of 42. He had slicked back brown hair and was rather tall. His sight was beginning to go and he now wore glasses for reading. He wore a very sharp suit and his face was perfectly shaven. As they rode in his car back to Stuttgart, Leopold explained the situation. "They just made us leave our home, can you believe that? They just say, 'pack up and leave, now!' Why do they do this, Franz? You live in the city, do you know?" "They're closing the whole border, dad. They're building fortifications and stuff, even a huge fence with guard towers. Have you been paying attention to the news lately? You know we went to war recently don't you?" Leopold looked shocked, "We went to war?" "Well, we marched into Deutschland. Everything was set up and our troops were ready to defend Berlin, when the Holy Roman Empire retreated from the walls in the South." "We fought the Holy Roman Empire?" "Kind of, like I said. They were trying to breach the walls in South Deutschland, then they retreated all the sudden and blew the fortifications apart. Now they're the German Democratic Republic." "The German Democratic Republic, are they communists like the first?" "Yes. Same flag and everything. Anyways, I'll have to find a place for you guys in the city for the long run. Of course for now you can stay at my and Ingrid's house" "What do you mean in the long term?" Elsa asked. "Well, you can't go back. They'll be tearing your house down no doubt, and they'll probably set up an AA battery there or something." "What? What are you talking about!? Leopold!" "I'm sorry, Elsa. I just didn't want to worry you any more than you already were..." Leopold answered meekly. Elsa just turned and faced out the window, not saying a word. Before long the car pulled into the driveway of a beautiful suburbian home just outside of Stuttgart. There were trees, albeit with no leaves, and a light snow had covered the yard. They passed through the small gate on the knee-high fence around the yard and walked up to the door, which Franz opened for his parents. Ingrid walked in smiling and stirring some cookie dough she was making in a bowl. Her long blond hair came all the way down to the body of her apron. She was a strikingly beautiful woman, her blue eyes standing out against her fair face. She was originally from København, but her family moved to Switzerland during the Greater Nordlandic Reich years. "Oh, you're back already, honey? You shouldn't drive so fast in the snow," Ingrid said before kissing Franz. "It was fine, dear, the roads aren't very bad." Ingrid moved on to the parents, "Oh, hello! So you'll be staying with us then? I'll make sure you guys are right at home. Oh! Let us get your bags, Erwin! Eva!" The two children came from other corners of the house, "Erwin, Eva, please grab your grandparents suitcases and take them to the guest room, won't you?" Her Danish accent was apparent to the Germans, but they were all speaking Nordlandic. Her children were Nordlanders, a mixed ethnicity of Germanic peoples. They were both starkly blond headed with the gray eyes of their father and grandfather. Erwin was 18, very tall and very built. He was in his last year of school and like his uncle, would be joining the military in the summer. Eva was 16 and took after her mother in her warmest and beauty. They were happy to comply with their mother's request and showed the grandparents to where they would be staying. Later that night, after the kids had went to bed the adults sat by the fireplace, drinking cups of hot chocolate. "So you can never go back?" Ingrid asked them. "It doesn't seem like it. I'm too old to fight, too," Leopold sighed, "I just wish I could go back. It's only been hours, but I feel like I've been gone a lifetime." Ingrid was very saddened by this, her empathy was very deep, "Well, could we talk to Bjørn? Could Bjørn do anything about it?" "I don't think so honey, it's not really in his hands. These orders came straight from the Reichsmarschall," Franz replied. "You can't expect him to throw away his family! Just because the Reichsmarschall gives him an order doesn't mean he forgets about his mother and father!" Ingrid argued, very frustrated by the situation. "Bjørn's a Colonel now, he's way up there. Hell, he's in line to become an ambassador. Plus, you know how the Markswehr makes people. You can only be around that kind of Nationalism so much before you start caring about the state more than your blood," Franz replied. "My son, is not like that. We will talk to him tomorrow," Elsa interjected, with purpose. "Now, I'm going to go to bed. Come on Leopold. We will have Bjørn sort this out tomorrow."
  3. I hate to be a stickler, but this has never been gotten right so I'll post it up, the Alsace-Lorraine on the map is always way off, and I don't have the image editing software so I apologize that I cannot do it myself. This is for the Rheinmark. It's fine if it is spelled Rhinemark on the map, since that would be the English translation. Here is a picture of the region in question: Also, as for my province in the North (that does not follow political boundaries, per se) is a tad off. Here, you will see Alsace-Lorraine highlighted in darker gray. Going off to the right and above it are two provinces, one that borders the Alsace-Lorraine Region, and anther that borders that region. The two regions in question are the ones closest to the depiction on the map, but there are obviously differences in actual placement. They wrap around Baden-Württemberg, which here is divided as it was in the original German Empire. The map will be on the righthand side, the picture itself cannot be linked. Wikipedia Section w/ map I realize this may be a project, so if you decide to take it up, thank you very much and of course regardless, thank you for your time, it is appreciated.
  4. Fichtenau, Rheinmark Leopold Schüller lived in a small village just next to the Rheinmark-Bavarian border, just outside Fichtenau. It was a lovely place, the fields, while now covered in the pure white snow of the surprise storm that had come up recently, were usually green and the forests beautiful. Leopold seemed to know everyone in the village. It was hard not to, considering this particular village had a population of 875. The actual city limits of the village constituted the normal required facilities, a school, high school, post office, bank, even a small library, as well as a butcher shop, bakery, deli, fruit vendors, and a few retail stores. The architecture was very traditional, almost all of it being in the classic white walls, dark brown beams type of exterior. Leopold himself was growing old. He was bald atop his head with gray hair wrapping around from temple to temple. We was as you would expect an old man to be, retired, getting fat, but still in good humor. He was somewhat of a traditionalist, and never missed a single opportunity to share his wisdom. Indeed, many listened, as he was a very practical man and well like by everyone. He was always smiling, always making the ends of his thick mustache curl up. He had had two sons, the elder of which had moved to Stuttgart to work in the auto industry while his son had joined the military It was a Sunday morning and Leopold was walking down the street heading for the bakery to pick up he and his wife a loaf of bread. Suddenly, a faint rumble began to grow from behind him. He looked out into the countryside to see tanks rolling towards the border, then suddenly some much closer came over the hill and headed straight towards him and the town. He turned back around and noticed it for the first time. A group of gray military officers in uniform walked down the street together, looking at a map an pointing around. More APC's drew near and trucks towing artillery pieces. Here and there, soldiers in full armor milled and ran around, performing duties, speaking with citizens. Their faces could not be seen, as they wore helmets, baklavas and goggles. Soon, one of them would approach him, a Corporal. "Sir, have you been briefed on the situation? You look confused." Indeed, he was. Leopold removed his glasses and wiped them on his shirt before replacing them. "No son, I don't believe I have." "The area's being evacuated, the whole border is getting shut down. Did you not receive the letter?" "Oh, that letter, yes I did, but there must be a misunderstanding. See, my family has lived here for generations, I raised my two boys in my home here. I'm not moving." "I'm afraid you are sir. You'll be relocated to government housing further West." "What? No, you don't understand, I can't leave this place," Leopold persisted as he tried to push around the soldier. The infantryman firmly halted Leopold and shoved him back. "You don't get it, sir. You're moving, the area's being locked down. As soon as the situation improves, you'll be able to return to your home." "Son, I don't have enough years left in me to wait for the Bavarians and Austrians to make peace with the Germans. Neither does my wife." He tried once again to push past the soldier. The soldier pushed him back, hard this time. Leopold stumbled slightly then caught his balance. "You are to go to your residence and gather your belongings. You are then to return here to the village in front of the library and be prepared to be transported by bus to your new home. Immediately." The soldier was getting angry at this point. "You don't understand, I'm not leaving. I'll die before I can come back." The soldier turned his back and approached one of the officers. He came back to Leopold with 3 more companions, "Sir, we'll be escorting you to your residence, now." Leopold had no choice to comply, and he despaired.
  5. The team had already left the building, but the charge in the dumpster blew just as the last man crossed his path. It was the Lieutenant. Bruun was thrown across the alley and impacted the wall, then slumped to the ground. The charges on the building had gone off too and the team was thrown away, including Bruun's body. Ears were ringing and vision was blurred, but Nørgaard managed to make his way to his Lieutenant. As the others came too, Nørgaard lifted Bruun's body halfway off the ground after he had crawled to him. He unsealed Bruun's helmet and cast it aside, his commander had already passed away, his face covered in blood. Nørgaard worked extremely hard to keep his emotions in. Fear, despair, sadness. His mouth was agape and his bottom lip visibly trembled. "Sarge! Sarge!" Kjeldsen yelled at Nørgaard. Nørgaard made no reply. He didn't even turn to look at Kjeldsen. The others made their way and stood over the Sergeant. He slowly stood up and they parted as he slowly walked away from Bruun's body. He had picked up Bruun's helmet. All the sudden he yelled at the top of his lungs and threw the helmet way down the alley. "$%&@!" He fell to his knees and didn't move. He started getting frantic. He picked up his weapons and started turning circles, then began walking down the alley with extreme purpose. The others ran after him. Kjeldsen whispered to Nørgaard as he came up next to him, "Sarge, keep it together. Come on now." "I'll kill every one of these !@#$@#$ slavs." Kjeldsen looked back at the rest of them and nodded, and the team went on down the street.
  6. Stuttgart, Rheinmark Today marked a historic day in which vehicles would be exported from the Rheinmark in 7 years. The domestic industry, which was in a major slump at the time, as recovered and is now better than ever, and ready to begin exporting their cars to the world once more. Most notable among these manufacturers are Daimler AG and Porsche, both of which are based in Stuttgart, the industrial capital of the nation. Martin Hörrenlig, CEO of Daimler AG, producer of the Mercedes-Benz brand, went on air after the news broke: "Zis is an exciting time in ze Rheinmark. Ever since ze domestic industry went under, ve have been vorking on getting things in order and now ve are able to return to ze international market. Ve have some exciting new designs ve are about to put out, it's just a very exciting time in Stuttgart. You can just...feel ze life returned to ze city. It's been revitalized, reinvigorated."
  7. The German representative of the Rheinmark stepped forward to the newlyweds. He was dressed in his dark grey officer's uniform, his chest laden with medals. He saluted the Russian Royalty before presenting his gift. "The Reichsmarschall regrets not being present himself, but urgent matters have kept him in the Fatherland. He did, however, commission the crafting of this violin specifically for you. It was made by our finest craftsman, Franz Kuhler, and was hand-carved and made in the Northeast of our country. The Reichsmarschall Becker has written a note to you both, it resides within the case." The officer knelt and presented the open case to the newly married royalty. The notes read: "Let this simple token be a symbol of warm regards, from the Fatherland to the Motherland. I regret that I could not attend the ceremony in person, I was detained. However, let it be known that this corner of the Fatherland sends you its finest regards, may you live a long and joyous life, and may your rule be just and remembered. -Reischsmarschall Wilhelm Becker"
  8. The Rheinmark Expeditionary Force Returns Home! After their short campaign in Deutschland, the Rheinmark Expeditionary Force returned home to applause and support. They had not done a tremendous amount of fighting, as the only ones who fired upon the Holy Romans were the artillery groups stationed on the border. The people had no false image of what the troops had done. They knew they had not performed any overly heroic acts or feats of extreme daring, but the people supported them none-the-less. They supported the troops who walked into the face of certain doom. After their brief welcome home parading in the streets of Frankfurt, the troops were sent to the border as part of the force deployed there who were fortifying and manning the border with the GDR. Semi-Classified Border fortification construction is progressing, nearing 50% completion. Evacuated citizens have begun being moved into their new homes. Artillery, AA, Gepards, and all missile defenses are online. Soldiers are ready for defensive action.

Behind them stood the Rheinmark Luftwaffe, which was on high alert. The DEFCON was raised to 2. Mining operations began on the border, as troops laid proximity and motion mines all along the border. Border towns were evacuated in fact, their tenets being given temporary housing while new projects were made for them to live in. The entirety of the border was shut down. Border fortification efforts were doubled as positions were built, armed and manned. The new missile defenses were concentrated at the border, as were the AA guns, Gepards, and artillery pieces, all pointed outward. Razor wire coils were spread thick across the border as chain link fences, topped with razor and barbed wire were erected where they could be. In addition, border checkpoints were established on every single path between the HRE and the Rheinmark. Nothing was going in or out. Guard towers were also built and manned with soldiers armed with light machine guns and spotlights.
