Germanic Republic's Achievements

Newbie (1/14)

 1. Go ahead and remove me from the map, please, my RL duties come first.
 2. Meyer pulled a rather Spartan defense treaty out and offered it to Fox. I. General defense a. Any attack on one member of this treaty constitutes an attack on all members of this treaty. II. Intelligence Sharing a. The signatories agree to share any information that is relevant to the other signatory. Especially so, when it comes to military plans and details. III. Cancellation Clause a. The signatories must announce the cancellation 48 hours prior to when it should end. "Are there any changes you see that need to be made?"
 3. Very well. We'll land troops in Nova Scotia to ensure that stability is restored and the rioters are dealt with, and we will await your departure. Most of the carrier fleet turned around, but a trio of destroyers escorted 20,000 soldiers to Nova Scotia. To the Nova Scotian government, We request permission to enter Nova Scotia to enforce the Canadian's leaving, as well as to combat the rioters. Please reply with haste, Hermann Meyer President Federal Republic of America
 4. Hermann tackled Fox's hand and shook it, then headed for the car. As they drove through the city to Fox's office, he took in the sights. "It's quite the beautiful city you have here. The way it sometimes gets in Texas we just might have to trade places, now!" He said with a laugh, and sat through the rest of the ride in silence. When they entered President Fox's office, Hermann got right to the point. "It's quite obvious that while the threat of leftist expansionism is not entirely over, the treaty binding many old North American nations together is obsolete. I suggest instead we ourselves have a new pact, a general defensive agreement. We in the Federal Republic want to maintain our friendship with our allies in the CAS, and friends in Missouri and Pravus Ingruo, so it only makes sense to extend our relationship with your people. What say you?" He asked, quite hopeful.
 5. To the Commonwealth of Canada, The land is already a democracy of the purest form, the instigators and rioters have no legitimacy. Again, leave Nova Scotia immediately. This is not negotiable. Office of the Foreign Minister Federal Republic of America The Federal Republic's fleet set off around Florida and into the Atlantic. Carrier-based fighters patrolled around the carrier group, and a constant look-out was kept as part of ASW and AA operations. It would take the fleet a little while to swing around to Nova Scotia. Refueling planes kept the land-based fighter and gunship wings with the carrier group.
 6. The Federal Republic of America condemns the Commonwealth of Canada's occupation of Nova Scotia. An address was given by the office of the Presidency, People of North America, Today the Commonwealth of Canada has threatened the sovereignty of the nation of Nova Scotia. They have occupied their towns and their cities, with the intent of dissolving their government and destroying their national identity. This can not, and will not, stand. As North Americans we have a duty to further our own peace and prosperity-- occupying and annexing another nation due to a resolvable internal dispute only furthers distrust and kindles the fires of hatred. The Commonwealth of Canada will remove their forces from Nova Scotia, or we will come in there and remove you by force. We promise the Nova Scotian government and people that we will maintain their sovereignty, as the strong must protect the weak. Hermann Meyer President Federal Republic of America /s/ The nation had been on stand-by for a catastrophic war, so it was more than prepared to deal with a small police action. The FANF was amassing in Mobile, preparing troop transports for a little over 160,000 troops drawn from all of the military districts, a little under 3,000 armored vehicles, and thousands of supply vehicles. The FAASNF prepared air wings to travel along the Atlantic to strike at forces in Nova Scotia. Their carrier counterparts in the FANF were ready to deal with any threat that met them along the way.
 7. When all was said and done, President Meyer was on a plane to San Francisco. He viewed the landscape and the city on his way down, perfectly content with this marvel of human construction. The plane set down and he exited the ramp behind a secret service chap. Off the plane, he was flanked by the guard on his right, and his liaison to Congress on the left.
 8. President Meyer was busy in his office, responding to memos regarding Project "BEXAR" and from the Commander in Chief Holden. He was reviewing memos from the Department of Commerce when it was noticed that the embargo of goods on the UFE, Athens, and others involved in the Rape of Alaska was still very much active. He scratched his forehead and wondered aloud, "I thought those were temporary restrictions...?" He got on the horn with the head of the Department of Commerce and spoke briefly. The restrictions were removed without a fuss, after years of imposition, and it would again be possible for trade to resume. He sent a note to all involved regarding this. He also mused over the fate of the civilians still kept captive in Athens. It had been two years already. Of course, he knew they were dishonest, and it was an indefinite hold, but it still unsettled him that a handful of his people were hostages in a foreign nation. He'd make a note to contact the Athenians regarding it. But for now, this brought up another problem. The pan-American defensive bloc to defend against the Red Dawn threat was obsolete. Not only was the legitimacy in doubt, but the need. The Austrians weren't much on his good side anymore, nor were the minors in North America too important. The out-standing question was the relationship between the Federal Republic and the CAS. He began to draft a treaty. A message was sent to the CAS: RE: Treaty Restoration BODY: Given the state of the Red Dawn treaty, we would like to propose one that nullifies our involvement in it, and establishes on another as direct allies. We're both fellow Americans who stood on the line against expansionist forces and held our own, we survived and are all the better comrades for it. Please consider this, I'll await your reply. Would San Francisco be a good meeting place? Regards, Hermann Meyer President Federal Republic of America
 9. No political parties were barred from participating in elections in the FRA. However, there already was a political party, the Libertarian Party of the Federal Republic of America, that claimed these values as their own. Prior to realignment to the American Front, and then Progressive Way, the LPFRA had controlled the political scene in the Federal Republic. For now, it was a rump party, with barely any representation in the Senate, and only moderate control over the House. It was ineffective, although not as much as the Leftists or the Greens. None of this was any secret to the frustrated chair of the LPFRA, Franklin Murphy. He failed to live up to the ideals of Libertarian President Justin Murphy and never a day went by that he wasn't reminded of this. The last (and his first) election resulted in a whopping 1% of the popular vote. This was partially due to the failures of the Libertarian Presidency in the old Republic, partially due to Frank being politically fresh, and partially because he didn't have a coherent or feasible policy for maintaining the new Republic. The emergence of a new, regressive party that calls back to the days of the USA could be enough to draw votes from the revivalist Democrats, even if it might isolate one or two small parts of the LPFRA's base. Franklin knew an opportunity when he saw one, and set about contacting the local chapter leaders and the founders in Boston. He issued a letter to the international portion and would have aides call the local chapter to discuss a coalition or a merger.
Comrades in Liberty, It has come to my attention the broadcast you submitted throughout this great continent, and we have very similar ideals. The Libertarian Party of the Federal Republic of America believes this:

Open and free markets
Peaceful interaction and trade between nations
Non-intervention in foreign affairs
A large scale-back of government power
Lessening the power of the military as leaders in the FRA
We have much in common. We have contacted the local chapter of the American Continental Party to work closely with us in reviving liberty within the Federal Republic. You have an ally in the the LPFRA and our endorsement, we only ask that the LPFRA and the ACP work closely together in Austin, either forming a coalition or emerging as one solitary unit. Regards, Franklin Murphy Chairman Libertarian Party of the Federal Republic of America
In Austin, the capitol of the Federal Republic of America, President Hermann Meyer convened with Federal Republican Party bosses over the new movement. He nodded as Liam Duke, Texas Governor, strode into the room. "What're we got for us here? New upstarts? Elections are soon, we can't have some new dogs trying to take us down during a crucial election," Liam started. "New pan-American group, seems like, Liam, and they are practically mirrored by the Libs here. Goodness knows they're not going anywhere anytime soon, and they haven't been for quite some time," Meyer answered. He looked uncertain, but the ever-present threat of war with Red Dawn had aged him considerably. The conflict was far gone by now and he was still a determined voice for reason, civil rights, democracy, and morality in North America; but, it had taken its toll, and he wasn't as sure as he used to be. Liam filed this as a mental note that he might have to step down along the line as governor and run for President. He knew the bosses would support him should Meyer drop out. Liam was a young, determined ex-Marine lieutenant with qualifications as governor, a good image), and degrees in both foreign policy and public administration from UT. He thought for a moment and chuckled, and gave the other bosses a mischievous grin. "At least the Democrats are collectively soiling themselves. A new reactionary movement with enough momentum, and they're done for. Maybe this is a godsend after all?" He joked. Meyer grinned amongst the laughter, and then dove into the heart of the matter. "So, what are my chances, and what are our Congressional chances?" He asked, bracing himself. Jokes aside, the LPFRA and the Democrats combined were enough to hamstring the Federal Republicans. The representatives, governors, and other members of the upper echelon of the Federal Republicans sounded off their numbers. All in all it looked like a narrow victory in both the Senate and House, with the Presidency secured for another term. Adrian Holmes, House Rep from Oklahoma, spoke. "You're doing much better now than you did last time. You've stolen votes from American Front and Democrats for your stance on Communism these past four years, surprisingly enough. The Greens won't budge. The Left hates you, but the Left would never vote for anybody beyond a Green or Leftist anyway. Looks like the Democrats are down, the American Front are even further down, the LPFRA maintains their position for now, and the Greens and Leftists are as irrelevant as ever. You have nothing to worry about, Mr. President," he said, counting off fingers as he illustrated the situation. Meyer nodded thoughtfully and added, "That we know of." He was worrying the party bosses, Liam noticed. It might be sooner, rather than later... Hm. The meeting finished up and Liam left for the party HQ in Austin. He had received a memo from his contact in the LPFRA. His pulse pounded as he read with horror:
LPFRA established contact with ACP. Asking for a merger. Accelerated movement may topple FR control if unchecked.
He sat down, leaned back, and lit a cigarette. Dammit.

 11. A national day of mourning would be instituted for the dead in Maine, at the hands of foreigners and of their own mad dictator. In the mean-time, civilians would be advised to seek shelter in one of the many public nuclear facilities. The FRA's deterrent would be put on stand-by, in the event the conflict broadened to include her.
