After playing Mass Effect and KOTOR, I have a feeling that Bioware's latest creation is going to own my life for at least two weeks after its release.

If this wasn't a Bioware game I'd call it overhyped. The only disappointing thing here is the exorbitant costs of the DLCs.

The Final Fantasy's were all ported to the PC at one time. I can't find them anywhere but eBay now, but the point stands.
Also FF11 was god-awful on the consoles, and better (not by much) on the PC.

IIRC, the only ported FF games are 7, 8 and 11. Good luck getting 7 to work. I can't remember if 8 gives me trouble on XP as it's been years since I last played it.

Only VII and VIII were ported, and their controls were god-awful. It was as bad as porting a functional RTS from computer to console.

It's actually surprisingly good on the XBox. I haven't had any control issues yet... it was a little weird at first but once you get the hang of things it's not bad at all. Of course, I would have preferred to get it on the PC but unfortunately I don't own a super computer.

OS: Windows XP with SP3
CPU: Intel Core 2 (or equivalent) running at 1.4Ghz or greater
AMD X2 (or equivalent) running at 1.8Ghz or greater
RAM: 1GB or more
Video: ATI Radeon X850 128MB or greater
NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128MB or greater
DVD ROM (Physical copy)
20 GB HD space

I could play that on mine. Though I don't really have any room on it, I have 5 GB free space and I don't really know what I would delete in order to install Dragon Age to it. In any event, it works fine on XBox so I don't regret getting it for XBox.

According to GS, the 360 version has rather horrible graphics compared to the PC and even the PS3. Which helped earn it an 8.5 instead of the PC's 9.5.

It runs perfectly on high graphics for me.
The game is very tactical. You need to have a decent plan before going into any fight. I am a human noble warrior and I use massive armor. The massive armor makes me the number one target. Therefore, I am usually getting pounded on by about twelve guys. Wynne the healer keeps me healthy, Leliana the archer attacks enemy spellcasters, and Shale the stone golem beats the crap out of anybody who tries to get at my archer and healer. If anybody here ever played Guild Wars competitively the tactics will feel familiar. The main difference being that Dragon Age is 800000 times better than Guild Wars.
The combat is great but where the game gets you is in immersion. The depth of the game is phenomenal. For example, your party members will have conversations with each other when out of combat. Leliana, a former priest, and Morrigan, an atheist mage, will have discussions and disagreements about the afterlife. Each of the party members has a distinct personality. Alistair is a bit of a smartass, Morrigan is a !@#$%*, Wynne is old, wise and kind, your dog is well, your dog and Shale has a rather amusing hatred for birds of all kinds. The storyline is nothing to write home about. Small group of fugitives fight against an evil tyrant to try and unite a nation against an evil force from the south. But its told vividly and keeps you captivated the entire time. The side stories are equally enthralling. I've spent 15 hours in this game already and I just finished the first of the four parts of the first major quest. I could see 100 hours put into this game, no problem.

Why? I don't want to pay a fee for to play a game after buying it, that's my biggest beef with MMOs in general. More subjectively, RPGs are largely a single player experience to me.

So you hate the game because you have to pay a fee.
Not because it is an MMO. There are plenty of MMOs (especially Guild Wars, one of the best out there) that don't require a fee to play.
More subjectively, SW:TOR is almost entirely soloable. If there wasn't a fee I doubt you'd be passing it up.
