So, I guess we're more or less considering the inflation epidimic in Zimbabwe to be close to over now, since the government has legalized using foreign currencies in the country.

So we all know what it's time to do now.

Zimbabwe ended up being the second fast inflater in human history, with prices doubling once every 24.7 hours at its inflating peak.

But they still got their butts kicked by the inflation-heavy-weight, Post WWII Hungary. Prices there nearly TRIPLED every single day in July 1946, to create a monthly inflation of 1.3*10^16 %

EDIT: I have no idea how this ended up here. Can mods move please sad.gif

Zimbo did have Hungary beat for having banknotes with the most 000's on it with their 100,000,000,000,000 dollar bill. Hungary had larger denomination notes but used a combination of words and numbers to express value.

Someone sent me some of the old 100,000,000,000 notes and I have one tacked up at work. It only kept its value for around three weeks before revaluation made it worthless.

However until Bob Mugabe is either dead or exiled, I don't see Zimbo's woes improving. He is the root cause of everything wrong in that country today. And here's hoping South Africa and Namibia both don't try to emulate the practise of farm confiscations under Mugabe.

Well, isn't hyperinflation a fascinating topic.

As for the Zimbabweans, it is a clear indication that the African addiction to socialism is doing more harm to their economic development than good.

I wouldn't call Zimbabwe's gov't socialist so much as apartheidic. Whites being the target.

I wouldn't even call half the governments in Africa governments, let alone "socialist". It's a group of men, benefiting from all the resources, while the rest of the country suffers. There's no real governing to speak of...
