According to an article I read, there's going to be numerous patches and such to be installed in the months following the release so I'll just wait 'till all that's done.

I've been using 7 for about two weeks now, and i love it. It's faster imo, smoother, and seems a lot nicer than Vista, and I liked Vista.
My CS and SE roommates love it as well.

7 is however, far superior to Vista and about on-par with XP in some aspects, superior in others.

Wow.. because Mac OSes never have any problems. This is why they have never had to update it or patch it or make new operating systems.
They really do have the douchiest advertisers in the world.
Also, I'll have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 in about 19 hours. Prepare for the incredible review I will post then.

Probably does if your computer also does. When you have enough memory to run it then it's fine. Then again I don't use backward $@! programs created in '99, or peripherals that have similarly been created a fair while back, so I've never had compatibility issues or driver issues. Then again after using it for just over a year now, I've not had any problems with it.

Exactly. That and the Cisco VPN. Other than that, just about every vendor has 64 bit support, and any computer that's at all up to date should be able to run it no problem. It's also amazingly stable.

I have been using the full retail version of Windows 7 Professional 64-bit for 2 months now due to involvement in the MSDN Academic Alliance, and yes, it does live up to the hype, if not surpasses it by a bit.
Compared to Vista 64 Home Professional, my laptop uses 1/3 less memory at idle, slight decrease in processor usage overall, much faster boot/log-in times, fewer hang-ups (I think I've seen it hang up briefly on something twice in those two months), ease of use is improved, XP Mode/Windows Virtual PC (available only on Professional and Ultimate) is probably one of the better virtualization set-ups I've used. I've had zero compatability issues, and so far it runs better than any prior Windows OS I've ever worked with (going back to 3.1).

Lol, I have yet to see Apple defending their OS in their advertisements. The only reason why Mac doesn't have as much security problems as the Window is because they have much less users, meaning less hackers and computer infection creators bothering Mac, resulting in less amount of bug exploit/infection reports and patching.

I agree with this. I'm running Vista x64 on my laptop and I am extremely pleased with it. Only issue I've had is that once a update from Microsoft resulted it a blue screen of death on occasion but they quickly fixed it. Before and after that it has been 100% reliable and I've been very happy with it.

Lol. I ran Vista 32 on my !@#$ty laptop with some noticeable lag. Switched back because I just like XP better...but only program I ever had a problem with was TI's software for my TI-83+...which didn't even matter since I never really used that program anyway. Anyway, I'm seriously considering installing Windows 7 on my work laptop, which is much, much faster than this 4+ year old laptop. Or on my desktop when I get around to building one.

Driver Signature Enforcement is the only really major thing I dislike about my Vista x64 Ultimate.
Does anyone know if there's a risk of programs I have on Vista not being 7 compatible when I upgrade?

The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue.
You can’t upgrade 64-bit Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 64-bit version of the installation disc, or go online to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings.
32-bit Windows cannot be upgraded to a 64-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 32-bit version of the Windows installation disc.
So, is it just me or does my computer think that I am using both a 32 and 64 bit OS and am trying to upgrade to both a 32 and 64 bit OS?

I have yet to find anything short of one or two sidebar gadgets with issues. Even if there was a problem, the compatibility stuff in 7 is improved over Vista, and some versions have the ability to run an XP virtual machine built in.

Daemon Tools doesn't work and some programs say they didn't install right but work perfectly fine (mIRC, HOI3). All of my programs (sans daemon tools) work perfectly fine. On the topic of programs, you can actually totally disable/uninstall Internet Explorer on this.
Also, my friend pirated Ultimate AIO Activated from TPB and got the same error. I don't know if it's a pirate-only version (and I'm not going to ask you) but if you have a 64-bit Vista and trying to upgrade with an all-in-one version it might be going "loldongs".

The compatibility thing says that Daemon Tools Pro will work for the x64 version, but not x32.
Yeah, it turns out that since the iso is sketchy and includes 32 and 64 versions on it, it freaks out when you try to upgrade from 64 to 64. I'll have to get a 64 only version.
