I would like the ability to restrict the 'View New Posts' feature to certain forums, much like the search feature can. I spend time ONLY in the Open World forums and being able to restrict the View New Posts to those forums would make my time here more effective AND productive.
Thank you for any consideration you may give.

How would be a programming question I'm guessing. I think it's a good idea, but I'm uncertain how long it would take to implement or how easy it would be to do so.

Well, in the 'search' function, one is able to select the forums to do the search in. I suspect that is a subroutine call. Either the 'view new posts' could also call that subroutine in the process of building the search string, or one could add a 'messages since x date' or 'messages since you last visited' to the search function.
Whoever maintains the forum code could check the vendors support site, as I'm sure others have implemented the same thing.

Use RSS to specific forums, like banned member (in before X..) used to.

This would be a good idea, unless if it takes too much time to program. There are other suggestions that need to be fixed first.

Even if you filtered this to just the OWRP forums you would basically see every thread in your 'new posts' section, people post something new every couple of minutes. If you have every thread in your list then it doesn't benefit you any as you could just look at the normal forums in the first place and save a fair bit of needless processing for the CN forums.

I like that too, as you SWK I just normally post in OWF and don't care for the other forums.

I couldn't agree more with SWK's suggestion.
I don't see how discussing how it would be implemented as relevent to the discussion, leave that up to admin to decide.

When Admin upgrades to IPB 3.0 there is an option to set an entire forum onto your watches and your panel can alert you to the watched forum in an easy to access user bar.
That's the best that I know of in IPB 3.0 though, I think it'd be wiser not to spend the time on making a modification to 2.3 as once these boards are upgraded the mod will not be compatible.
