It was a dark night. No wind was blowing through the trees, no animal was scavenging through the underbrush. The moon was hidden from view, and no stars were blinking. These are nights were seldom things happen.
Kristian was fast asleep, he had taken his medicine the new doctor had given him. It should help him sleep with out any dreams or nightmares. This would be his first easy night since the assassination.
Suddenly the kings fingers started to cramp, his feet went stiff, a shudder went through his body. The king opened his eyes and looked up without fear. His lips are turning blue but before the live is completely drained out of his body his voice can be heard uttering a few words. "Come closer my friend, it is time we finally meet and go on that wonderful trip you have promised me for so long."
And then life slipped away and Death entered.
A few meters away, in the personal royal vault, a document was waiting, written a few weeks before with an unsteady hand.
I write and leave behind me this letter at Stockholm. I feel that I shall leave life before the end of this year. I wish to make known to the Sverige people, to the Children, to the land of Sverige, what they must understand.
If I am killed by common assassins a civil war will erupt in this country. I will leave this land to my two allies and friends to the south, Lübeck and Austria. As only they poses the strength and perseverance to battle the darkness that is creeping into Sverige. Brothers will kill brothers, and they will kill each other and hate each other, and for twenty-five years there will be no nobles in the country. I will leave this land to be guided by my two allies, as I leave no heirs behind and no one of the few people left in the royal family is capable enough to lead this country in these times. This will be the end of Sverige, but at least its people will be saved. Should it be left to the wolves all will be lost for the next 100 years.
I suggest to my friends they strike hard in the hearts of those that are willing to betray Sverige and its people, the new rich, the nationalists, the nobles, they are all blinded. Few of them are true of heart, but those that are should be saved and they will help lead this country one day.
If you should surmount the coming tide then those that are true of heart will be able to lead this country out of darkness once again.
To the men of arms and honor, your ranks have been poisoned by those that wish to end this country, those that wish to smear its beautiful sceneries with blood of innocents. Beware of them, fight the good fight and never forget what you are fighting for.
I have served this country to my best in death and live, I have fulfilled what little use I had to the people of Sverige. Its time to go now, I can feel death slowly creeping up to me. I'm not afraid anymore, death is but a mere friend who takes me on a trip.
for the last time
King Kristian I of Sverige
The next day, in an alley somewhere in Stockholm. The body of an old man, presumably a doctor in the medicine was found by two kids. He died of gunshot at point blank to the head.
And then it began, times of darkness and death..........................

OOC: It's been nearly a week since Sitethief posted this, someone had to do something eventually
IC: Classified (But not all that sneaky)
With words of civil war and the death of King Kristian, the Norwegian government was becoming clearly weary of the possibility that whatever violence was taking place could slip across the borders. As the Clocks struck six PM, a final decision had been made by the parliament. Due to a lack of response from both the Sverige Government to their situation, or one of their allies, the movement of a small group of soldiers was authorized as a diplomatic Envoy. Under the Order of Brigadier General Strøm, the 18th Brigade of the Kristiansand Division will cross the border into Sverige to search for whatever remained of the Swedish government, as well as check the state of the possibly anarchic nation. The Brigade will only be lightly armed, and will not be traveling with any heavy armor or artillery.
Five Hours Later
Just over five miles past the border, on the Swedish Highway 61, the brigade first reached the Locality Eda, wherein initial rumors of assassination were confirmed by local police forces. Initial reports have yet to show any signs of large scale violence. The Brigadier General has stated that the division shall continue south until they reach the city of Arvika, where they hope to receive more information from the larger populous.
The General is under strict orders to only fire if fired upon, and if contacted by the Sverige government, initiate a meeting to discuss what has been happening within the nation before returning home.
OOC: Just to say, I'll be RPing arrival in the city tomorrow (If I have time), at which point I'll wait for Sitethief to respond as to what I'll be coming across, should he say nothing... I'll make something up, something with destruction, national mourning, destruction, etc... I really don't know. I'm hoping Sitethief responds

Classified
Communique: Brigadier General Strøm and the 18th Brigade have officially reached the city limits of Arvika. The city, though nearly deserted, has minimal damage. The few people we have found are frightened, but do not know what is happening elsewhere in the nation. The idea that violence is spreading seems to be the only unified word among the people. Small crime has become somewhat rampant with the police force out of commission, and small raiding parties have appearance passed through the city on at least two occasions. It remains unknown whether the violence has ceased. The general plans to go to city hall today to search for someone who could know more about the civil war.

OOC: I know that this is an old picture, I will post a better one later. Please excuse me for slow posting.
Karlstad, HQ of Army Group West
Generalmajor Lundgen was watching over a map when an aid wearing a green Home Guard uniform rushed in. "Sir, we have sighted Norwegian troops in Arvika, we have received reports of other units of Norwegian troops crossing the border. We have no active units in any border area's. Major Hestens wants to know how and if we approach them."
Erick Lundgen sighs, he had expected foreign troops to show up at some point, but these damn Norwegians were quick, even quicker then the Lubeckians. Looking at his watch he decides to get this over with immediately.
"Tell Hestens to send a message to the Norwegian, we want to talk to them. And get me an escort to Arvika."
Gävle, HQ of Home Guard North
Överste Tüngren Stahlstadt just woke up from a short nap. It was all the sleep he was gonna get today. He hadn't had a proper night of sleep since the events of that dreadful day 2 weeks ago. It all seems like a blur looking back, The news that the king had been murdered in his sleep, death had sneaked upon him in the night, cowardly. Then the country had erupted in a civil war. The entire central political system was wiped out when a carefully planned out attack had taken place, under the cover of night, on the gathered officials in the Riksdag. Reports were unclear because communications began to be falter, but it was know that the entire Riksrådet and more then half the Riksdag had been wiped out. News of protests and counter protests in all major cities were found among the scarce reports of communication. And then there was only silence.
The local Home Guard had tried to fight its way towards the capital, but was brutally stopped by uniformed troops without any identifiably sings or marks. Essentially They had been cut of from the southern part of Sverige. Sure they could fly in helicopters or fighters, but they had other problems to worry about.
And now a new threat roared its ugly head.

OOC: Clarifying postSwedish army organization
Brigade 5000 (2 regiments) Brigadgeneral
Regiment 2500 (5 battalions) Överste
Battalion 500 (5 companies) Överstelöjtnant
Company 100 (4 platoons) Kapten
Platoon 25 Fänrik
Recon
Recon units are standard equipped with Ak 5a assault rifles, scopes, Signals equipment at platoon level include AN/PRC-25 (Ra145) and AN/PRC-77 (Ra146) backpack radios. Their modes of transportation include jeeps, motorcycles, sidecars. Their tasks are mainly to identify enemy units, gather intelligence, and act as an early warning and combat system for advanced fronts.
Home Guard
The Home Guard units are trained to be local combat units (primarily infantry but also signal troops). Local knowledge is one of the strengths of the organization. Training focuses on guard duties and weapons proficiency. Units are expected to use civilian assets (hospitals, supermarkets etc.) as part of their logistics. Home Guard training is centered around ground combat, from classroom instruction to a day on the firing range or more applied training exercises. Training is usually carried out on evenings or weekends and is not mandatory, and thus has varied a turnout. The equipment issued to Home Guard units is generally regular Swedish Army issue with some old equipment not being replaced and newer equipment not issued. Only the Rapid Response Platoons are organically motorized.
The standard armaments are Ak 4 battle rifles with red dot sights and sometimes with x4 optical sights for squad sharpshooters - or more rarely with a M203 grenade launcher - FN MAG (Ksp 58) machine guns, Carl Gustav recoilless rifles (Grg m/48) and AT4 (Pskott m/86) light anti-tank weapons. Psg 90 sniper rifles are also issued to designated snipers and some personnel are issued with Glock 17 (Pistol 88) pistols. Other equipment include anti-tank mines and manually detonated anti-personnel landmines, explosives and signals equipment. Some first and second generation night vision equipment of Russian manufacture have been issued, but illumination flares are otherwise used. Signals equipment at platoon level include AN/PRC-25 (Ra145) and AN/PRC-77 (Ra146) backpack radios. Dogs are also used as sensor systems, usually two for every platoon. The animals are issued and trained by one of the national auxiliary defence organizations.
Mortar
Mortar units tend to have the same equipment as Recon units, added to that they are equipped with 81mm mortars and 120mm mortars (Strix).
Infantry
The backbone of the army
Ak 5 assault rifles (with 40 mm grenade launcher (Colt M203))
Kpist m/45 submachine gun
Pist 88 pistol (Glock 17)
Ksp 90 machine gun (Fabrique Nationale FN MINIMI)
Tksp 12,7 mm heavy machine gun (Browning M2)

In the distance the roaring sound of a motorcycle could be heard rather good, Arvika looked deserted, no sound kept the motorcycle from roaring.
Then a motorcycle with a lone soldier on it rolled onto the central square of Arvika, a white sheet was tied to a pole on the back of his motorcycle. He slowly advanced through the streets till he saw some soldiers in the distance. The young soldier got off his bike and started to wave the pole and sheet in the air. "I have a message from my commander for you! Bring me your commander so I can speak with him! I am unarmed"

As the man came in on the soldiers, they almost all raised their guns. None of them had expected a man in military uniform, let alone any attempt to contact them. Brigadier General Strøm waved his arm towards the soldiers, and muttered, "Put those down." As he began to walk forward, he added, "but keep alert."
Strøm stepped up to the man, and in a booming voice said, "And just who is this commander of yours?"

"My commander is Generalmajor Erick Lundgen. He took over command of Army Group West after the assassination of King Kristian. We are trying to uphold order and justice in the face of chaos and anarchy spread by those who despise Sverige and want this beautiful country destroyed. My commander wishes to speak with you."

"And how do I know this isn't some sort of trap? A bunch of soldiers like us, marching into a nation could be a pretty big hamper to a revolution, and I could see why you would want to stop us before we did anything."
Strøm lit a cigarette, took a deep whiff, and smiled at the man, a tinge of disbelief in his eyes.

The messenger took a small metal box from his belt and removed a big cigar from it. He proceeded to light it with a match. Then he grinned back to Strøm, his face decorated with scars, a week old beard and dirt from the road. He shrugged, "I'm just the messenger, but we have no interest in qualms with Norway, we have problems enough as it is. Some rebels have taken over the newly build naval base to the south and are moving in on us, and we haven't been able to reach Stockholm or anything east of Örebro without running in to all sorts of rogue groupings. Our communications have been gone for some time now as well. It is in our interest to keep Norway as friend or as neutral. And as far as revolution goes, this is anarchy, not revolution. But suite yourself, if you're not interested in talking with Lundgen I'm told to hand you a sealed message. So whats it gonna be?"

Strøm chuckled at the man, and slapped him firmly on the back.
"Well, you certainly have a bit of a problem here, don't you, boy?" He paused for a moment, and called over a few of his men, "How 'bout I make you a deal? You sound like you are in quite the pinch, and the only reason I'm here in the first place is to make sure all of this muck doesn't slide into Norway, so I can offer this: I go, and talk to your commander, Lundgen, was it? I take my friends here, we drive on down in a real vehicle, and we talk about how we can get this all cleaned up the fastest. As for that letter, how about you open it up, and hand it over. I've been burned by too many people hiding poison in little things like that than I would like to make known."

"All right, my name is Lukas by the way. I'm gonna take the sealed message with me, its not supposed to be opened if you agree to talk. We have made arrangements to meet in a fairly neutral place. There is a village nearby, Klässbol, which is not yet inside our front line. There will be only a few soldiers there, you can take whomever you want to. Our commander will meet us there around 6 o'clock in the evening. And if you can arrange to have my motorcycle brought with me I happy travel in a car for once."
Just at that moment a loud screeching noise was heard, getting louder very fast.
Screaming "INCOMING!" Lukas ducked to the side of a building, pulling Strøm with him. 20 Meters further down the road a mortar round struck a beautiful tree and decimated it to rubble, the next mortar destroyed a parked car and left nothing then a smoking heap of malformed metal. Without looking if Strøm followed him Lukas ran towards a nearby ditch as mortar rounds kept raining down on the city. "Oh !@#$, I knew I would get killed on this !@#$@#$ mission!" Angry he slammed his fist in the mud.

Strøm smiled a bit as he heard the sound of mortar rounds crashing into the ground. He hadn't heard those since he was a cadet in the War to Destroy Greater Nordland.
"God, I love that sound," He muttered as Lukas began to yell, he turned to the frightened man, and stuck a pistol in his muddy hand, "You'll need this... And thanks for the save there."
Strøm looked out towards his men, taking cover across the street, "Get back to the APCs, we're hitting the road! We'll catch up."
