OOC: Unless something is labelled as public, please consider this all to be classified, as most of my islands are still under lockdown.

IC: The masked man sat at one end of the table, his underlings one by one giving their reports.

"Army recruitment is proceeding apace. Our numbers were down slightly from the conflict with Malaysia and the complete annexation of New Guinea, but by and large, citizens in the new territories are dealing well with the new government, and a large number of the new recruits are from East Papua, in gratitude for the stability we provided. Surprisingly, we are getting a number of recruits from North Kalimantan (OOC: The Malaysian portion of Borneo/OOC) as well. In total numbers, we have 300,000 fully trained troops, and another 150,000 recruits in various stages of training."

The general sat down, and the admiral stood. "Our Navy is in a situation similar to that of the army. our numbers were depleted in the conflict with Malaysia, but contruction has proceeded apace at all shipyards on more patrol craft, and we have even begun construction on some larger ships--without the assistance of nations such as Germany, Russia, the Netherlands and the US, we need to be able to be self-sufficient in these regards."

The Air force: "The numbers of our combat aircraft were not severely depleted, with the losses mainly among the less-advanced designs. We even managed to obtain the bluprints for the Sukhoi Su-30 and Sukhoi Su-27 during the conflict, and have therefore been constructing our own--currently we have ten of each, and more hangars for construction are buing built."

The meeting went on in such a vein for several hours. More than military was discussed, but it was the primary focus.

However, one important issue was raised by the Minister of the Treasury.

"Our economy has never been the strongest in the region--and with the current policy, it has stagnated. While trade can continue even with closed borders, it is more difficult, and such a policy tends to make potential trade partners wary. One of our major sources of income as a nation has always been tourism. I therefore make a proposal...declare the island of Bali open once again to foreign entrepreneurs and tourists. As the bigest source of tourism in the pre-chaotic times, opening it like this will kill two birds with one stone."

The Minister of Defense and Intelligence jumped to his feet. "But what will that do to our Statute of Secrecy? The world is not rerady to know the things we have done to preserve ourselves as a nation!"

The Treasurer smiled. "You are in charge of Intelligence...you tell me."

The masked man gave a nod, indicating he should consider it. "Well...we can restrict our citizens' access to the island by requiring that any visitors must plan at least a week in advance, and obtain the necessary travel permits. It may take a little extra effort, but it can be done."

The masked man made a gesture with his hand, and uttered a phrase commonly heard on a show popular in the Western Nations. "Make it so."

***Public Announcement to the World***

The island of Bali will now be open to foreigners. Tourists, entrepreneurs, and other individuals are free to go about their business here.

"All recruits since the last meeting have been through the training, plus a number more. Army size has nearly doubled, at 500,000 troops."

"In the navy, at least a full dozen smaller vessels have been completed, and work has begun on another submarine to augment the ones we already have."

20 aircraft have been added to the air force, and we are near to completing our research on nuclear weaponry.
Subtleknifewielder
The standing army is now currently nearing 700,000 troops. Upon reaching a full million, volunteers will still be permitted, but more efforts will be put into fortifying our outlying islands. This project, once begun, will be known as operation Hedgehog. The Americans had a devil of a time in their island-hopping campaign against Japan in World War 2--we are going to make sure that any attacker will have an even more difficult task in invading us.

Construction continued on the submarine, and the test of the nuclear weapon is scheduled for some time next week. it is estimated that it will be on the order of approximately 8 kilotons.

The most ambitious project to date is now being attempted--construction of an aircraft carrier. Basic designs on how it needed to work were available publicly, but construction facilities had previously not allowed for it. It will not be large, as carriers go, but upon completion it will still be able to hold at least 24 aircraft.
Subtleknifewielder
Income from renewed tourism to Bali is much greater than first anticipated, managing to hold the economy steady despite all other projects.

Army numbers nearing 900,000. Recruitment seems to be slowing down anyway, and once current trainees are finished, we will have settled our quota there.

Construction on the newest aircraft are still underway. Total of 35 new aircraft have been added to our forces since the original meeting.

The submarine is half-finished, and the hull largely layed for the aircraft carrier.

The nuclear test was delayed, and is occuring even now. we have alive feed on the plane in question...

***Transmission highly classified, location, somewhere in the South Pacific***

The location had been chosen due to one main criterion--few if any ships ever passed through this portion of the ocean. Without a word, the bomb was released, after communication from a scout plane confirmed that no vessels were in the area.

Immediately, the two planes turned away, but kept the cameras trained on the area.

Analysis later would confirm that the blast was no more powerful than 7 kilotons, with an efficiency of approximately 5% of the material fissioning.

***Public***

Some nations might have noticed an explosion occuring in the South Pacific. We are confirming that this test was performed by Indonesia, deliberately in a remorte location to avoid accidental deaths and fallout. We now possess viable nuclear weapons.

The submarine is finished, shakedown cruise to be taken soon. Aircraft carrier is making good progress.

Army has reached 1 million troops. Specialization can now occur. Authorization is granted for the formation of 18 new Raider battalions. Conscripts will undergo further training.

For the time being, construction of aircraft is halted at 48 new planes.
Subtleknifewielder
Operation Hedgehog is initiated, meaning fortification of the outlying islands has begun. Fortifications include the most advaced Anti-air systems located, as well as a garrison of at least ten troops on any island occupied by 500 or more civilians. Bunkers will be emplaced to make bombing capaigns a difficult and tedious job for any possible enemy.

Training of the troops that will make the Raider Battalions is proceeding at the predicted rate, and conscripts are being trained further to allow for more efficient troops.

50,000 volunteers have been formed into reserve forces. All further volunteers, for now, will be placed in this group.

Construction has resumed on the aircraft carrier.
Subtleknifewielder
Propaganda has been released that an enemy might be coming at any time to take away their homes, their families, and their very lives. Volunteer numbers have shot through the roof, putteing the reserve force at 200,000 men (and women--integration of ALL citizens into the armed forces is necessary for the best defense), despite all previous 50,000 being bumped up to full integration into the army.

Fortifications for Operation Hedgehog will include Czech hedgehogs on the beaches of more strategically placed islands, as well as in some locations on the larger islands.

Experimentation has begun on an anti-submarine weapon system similar to the old British Hedgehog.

The irony of the name of these last two items of defense is not lost on me.

Economy is holding steady for the time being.

PUBLIC (OOC: Yes, that means commentary is permitted... tongue.gif/OOC)

A small expedition is being mounted to Australia, and will land in the port city of Darwin. Only a small portion will be actual military, for escort purposes only.

The purpose of this expedition is simply to determine what is happening since the collapse of the government there.
Subtleknifewielder
OOC: Back to classified...

IC: The expedition proved fruitless...a new government has already formed.

Attention has been turned to more pressing matters. The army numbers have swelled to nearly 1.5 million troops, when reserves are counted. 1.2 million without them.

Naval vessels are on standby, and construction is being hurried on current vessels--especially the aircraft carrier, which has only a few more days to completion.

Two more nuclear weapons are in our arsenal.
Subtleknifewielder
Total of fifteen nuclear weapons, none larger than 10 kilotons, are now in our arsenal.
