Cyneriice Northan Celebrates 1st Environmental Celebration Day


All over the young nation of Cyreniice Northan, people of all walks of life are celebrating Environmental Celebration today. Created after growing concerns about the fragile Arctic environment, especially after the country began importing coal for warmth and electricity, the holiday's green-themed activities has the nation going wild. Reindeer riding, dog showing, making small shrines out of local trees and water-blessing ceremonies are just a few of the many things happening around the small country. At noon, on Greenwich Mean Time +1, Her Majesty Queen Cybil of House de Blanc sent a message to her people via radio, wishing them all a happy Environmental Celebration day. Here is a snippet:

"Brothers and sisters of the world and Cyreniice Northan, may the blessings of your deity be upon you all! Today, we celebrate what the Earth Mother has given us, and how we must heal Her wounds and protect all Her glorious treasures. As time changes, and so do we Northanics, we must rally together and show what we can do to help our environment. A perfect example of this is the eco-friendly techniques currently in research for the management of our extensive wheat farms ...."

The new holiday comes not too soon. Her Majesty has been dealing with several offers to join alliances, which have been a source of conflict in the royal courts. A dark cloud has been hanging over the people's heads as Queen Cybil continues to decline offers, claiming, "We will get through our first stages of existence, and without the help of an alliance. We are doing perfectly fine on our own."

Critics, however, disagree. The Queen's overuse of funds has been called into question, and yesterday, Financial Advisor Frederick Romney stated that "the Queen has nearly driven the country into debt". There is also pressure on her highness to improve the rate of the country's technological research within the next few months.

"We highly recommend that the Cyreniice Northan should join an alliance as soon as possible. No nation can survive on its own if it wants to succeed."

When approached by the nation of Disparu on the country's alliance status, the queen could not be reached, as she is attending a lake-blessing by a local Christian group. However, her advisor, Lady of Affairs Selena Rosario, had this to say:

"The queen is becoming more and more open to the idea of an alliance. However, at the time, she cannot find one she feels is suitable for her people. There is hope, though - the Queen has admitted she is swaying favourably towards a few alliances, but refuses to say which. Not even I know of which ties she is planning to make."

"That is good to know. We hope that whatever alliance you join, you will be warmly welcomed and excel."

"President Soularius has suggested the enrollment of an alliance which strongly enforces member protection".

Cyneriice Northan Finally Recognized As Independent Country

On the day of October 2nd, a day that will be forever marked as "National Recognization Day" (or N.R. Day for short), Cyneriice Northan finally settled agreements with the government of Vinland, and the kingdom was officially established on Baffin Island of former Canada. Since then, the queen has settled an Arctica-Cyneriice Northan treaty, in which Arctican supply ships may pass through Northanic waters. The Northanic people are assured that there is no harm in these ships passing through; they are there to maintain the Arctican lands on what was formerly known as Madagascar.

The Queen continues to talk with the council over the matter of an alliance. Recent comments from Soularo's President Soularius have been taken into consideration by the Queen, whose council is also urging an alliance with a good member protection policy. Queen Cybil was reported to have answered to the statement, "It is common sense, of course, that any organization, political or not, would make sure its members were taken care of properly in regards to whatever the organization was providing."

The council still has not admitted their and the Queen's choices for Alliance candidates.

"It is key for a newly formed nation which is considering alliance options, to look at entry foreign aid offers and active tech farming options".

Queen Announces Alliance Choice

After several weeks of debate amongst the council, the Queen has finally announced her alliance choice of the SOS Brigade Alliance. A rather new alliance, Queen Cybil repeated her statement of the fact that "the Alliance was, by far, one of the best I've seen amongst all these requests". Her Majesty is now in training to be fully accepted into the alliance, being privately tutored on the alliance's workings and politics.

The population of Cyneriice Northan supports their Queen's decision. With the refugee act passed months before, the young queen has had her hands full with the influx of foreigners. Following the advice of esteemed nations such as Zargathia, the Queen has passed several programs to ease tension between natives and newcomers, encouraging the populace to embrace the flow of new people.

Government Announces Temporary Tax Raise

The government has announced a temporary tax raise for Cyneriice Northan, to cover the costs of the country's growing infrastructure.

Earlier today, Queen Cybil declared that taxes would be raised so that "the country would be able to continue to prosper and provide a safe haven". The quickly-rising economy of Cyneriice Northan - a result of the queen's new financing program that places infrastructure as Priority #1 - has taken a bite out of national bills, and thus, the 16% tax rate has been raised to 20%. $13.74 in Canadians in income taxes are paid by citizens every day, leaving the people with an average of just over $50.00 to take home. A large amount of money in a nation that makes an average of $68.78 Canadian.

As expected of most tax raises, the population has expressed its distaste. Although there is nothing radical happening yet, people are complaining that the refugee act passed by Queen Cybil is the reason for the Northanic "financial hole". Questions over Her Majesty's spending habits have risen, and the people can't help but ask, "Where is our money going?" In response, Queen Cybil plans to release a public version of the national budget, sans any classified payments.

"We actually recommend that you raise taxes from 20% to 28%, as that will give your government money to improve the nation."

"The nation of Kitex is willing to send $1 million yen to help finance Cyneriice Northan's infra explosion."

Cyneriice Northan embraces the teachings of Sikhism

The flood of refugees primarily from Asia has brought change to the Northanic way of thinking. Sikhism is the new black, the religion that has taken Cyneriice Northan by storm and caused an entire shift in the culture of the people.

As defined by Northanic standards, a national religion is a religion that the majority of the country's people worship. Now that peoples of Asian backgrounds are flocking to Cyneriice Northan in droves, they have quickly become a known ethnic majority, and among their oriental-born traditions, Sikhism has found its place in the hearts of Northanic natives. Described as a combination of Hinduism and Islam, its sudden popularity among the people has caused the creation of a number of gurudwaras - holy places of worship among the Sikhs (those who believe in Sikhism) - as well as numerous references in Northanic literature, entertainment, and even fashion.
