So if you have 40 fighters and you just put the 40 after the already there 0 ( [040] ), the total aircraft sent becomes six or so less, larger lost with larger sent out. Apparently 08 and 09 are invalid selections. Have not tried with bombers.

I believe that the 0 bug is a known issue and as far as I know no fix has/can be made. It's best just to avoid doing it.
