Full Version: How Far Can You Push IC

This has been bothering me for some time. Over the months and yrs on Planet Bob, the amount of violence has been on the rise. In addition to all the OOC issues that have come up over that time, the amount of IC targeting is also on the rise. Past issues can be seen in the Grem thread where they play around in OOC in their IC characters and eating IC people who are based on animals, ex, Heft, Moo-Cows, etc...

While everyone who saw those threads has a good laugh regarding it, some don't take it IC death threads to be as funny as others. Any example with that is the recent "Shoot Sileath" sig:

So my question lies in where do we draw the line for attacks and cries for IC people to get pushed to the point of people wanting in IC to kill them yet how can you kill an IC character... I just think that some debate regarding IC limits might allow for some idea as to what people can do without needing to go beyond the line.

We warned players who used the Sileath banner and also warn those who harass TrotskysRevenge in a similar fashion. I'm not familiar with Heft's situation but if it's along the same lines offenders have likely been warned.

Are there other examples you'd like to address?
Zeta Defender
I believe those were the main ones. The Heff one was similar to the TrotskysRevenge one.

Outside of that, I just figured, that if we could all agree to some base, then there would be less problems when people feel they are getting the rough end of the stick.

According to this post: http://forums.cybernations.net/index.php?s...t&p=1761886

Those signatures are "legitimate IC commentary."

I'm confused of the terminology you're using then. Does legitimate IC commentary include warnable IC commentary? Or was the ruling changed later?
Tom Litler
I think the Banned Member banner was completely legitimate. From what I can tell from his behavior, he probably LIKED knowing that he was disliked, though he might never have admitted it.
Sword of Estel
This forum is for discussion of forum policy. Whether or not Sileath enjoyed being disliked has nothing to do with this discussion nor does it make the banner legitimate. Please read the forum guidelines, thankye.

It obviously wasn't a death threat but it is a form of flamebait and became moreso each time it was used/posted. Now it's filter evasion. The player in the thread you link to ended up being warned. I can think of one other thread in particular that just snowballed from bait into clear harassment of a player. The practice is bait, gets personal, and has proven to lead to nothing but rule infractions. The population here has come up with clever (and, might I say, quite entertaining) ways to express political ideals and IC vendettas so there's no reason why the flamebait can't be replaced with something less "personal attack"-ish/bait-worthy and more WIN.

Since this is the source of Zeta's query, over and out. If you have questions about specific banners or other similar issues in the future you're welcome to PM me (put subject of query in PM title).
