Citizens of Taeunas... your brother and sisters in government realize that we are a nation surrounded by conflict. We will NOT allow our homes to become a battle ground for the concerns of others. To this end, I declare Taeunas airspace to be off limits to foreign combat and military transport aircraft. I declare our national waters, up to five nautical miles from our shores, to be off limits to foreign warships and military transport ships. Any aircraft entering our airspace will be met by our fighters and escorted either out of our airspace or to a military airbase. Civilian flights are still allowed, but will be verified by visual inspection. Any ship entering our waters will be met by our ships and either escorted out, or boarded and brought into harbor. Any foreign military ship or aircraft that is escorted to our lands will be impounded for the duration of any conflict and the crews housed as guests. Our defensive capabilities are at their highest alert. Fellow citizens, do not be frightened by this increase in military activity. These measures are intended to keep us OUT of any armed conflict. We are neutral in this and shall stay that way. Thank you, and goodnight.

Taeunas aircraft have been seen lifting off from their bases and reports of them performing flybys on airliners have come in from several different national carriers. Coastal and air defense units have seen increased activity.

The Tir na mBeo Commercial Index spiked today, as new contracts were announced for military industries. Tech stocks led the way, with a 3.2% increase, followed closely by manufacturing companies with ties to the military.

Weather tomorrow... cloudy, high temps in the low 20's with a windchill of 10. There is a 100% chance of snow, with some areas seeing as much as 5" overnight.

In football... the Sligo Rovers slapped down the Limerick 37 today, 2-0... there was some surprise at the upset, with some of the 37 saying that the Rovers would be "put down like the dogs they are." ... Cork City defeated Kildare by a score of 3-2, the last Cork goal being scored on a penalty kick...

World in Conflict Special Report

With war raging on the European lands, Rebel Virginia declared war today against the United State of North America. Long an ally of Greater Nordland, the UNSA has not responded to this. No attacks have been reported as of yet. This opens up a new front in the current multi national conflict.

We caught up with Foreign Minister Gerry Adams as he went out for soft serve and had this to say...

"This is not our fight. We are resonably secure here on our island, and have no imperial or colonistic urges. However, RV is an ally, and as this, we will be sending humanitarian supplies to the port and warehouse facility we have on their shores. We will also be sending some ships to secure the facility. The governments of the world can have their silly fights. We will help the people."

On the Euro front... several flashes in the skies of GN have been reported, with no explanation as to why. Reports of satellites going off line have come in, including two of Taeunas' own weather and communications Geo-Sync Albatross'.

In New Rome... a massive attack has been reported, with several cities reported to be involved in heavy fighting. The Foreign Ministry has advised all Taeunas citizens to curtail any travel plans in europe and africa.

The Order of St. Patrick, a charitable humanitarian order, has announced plans to enter several of the war torn areas to provide aid and relief to the civilian populations. This has drawn sharp words fron critics who say that the Order is a secret orginisation, bent on their own agenda.

The Index rose a bit today, as announcements came from Aerodyne, Chulainn and CES. Between the three, almost 1800 new jobs will be created. Aerodyne announced that it's Xerxes Mk. I will be produced for sale, and that they will start replacing the ones in current use by the military with Mk II's. To run both models in sufficent numbers, a new plant will have to be built and staffed. Chulainn and CES announced a joint venture that is "classified" but will need close to 1100 new employees between the two companies.

In sports... Kildare tied the Limerick 37, one all... Drogheda United and the Finn Harps went scoreless untill the final ten minutes, when the United headed a corner kick past the Harps' goal tender... Galway on top of Longford, two nill...

Armed Forces Secretary Richard Mulcahy announced today the completion of the southern and western defenses. For the past few months, engineering units from the Army and civilian contractors have been working night and day to get these instalations up and running in these areas. The following list has been provided to the media only because "it would be too hard to keep the sites a secret, as these are high traffic areas for tourism and such."

The Western islands of Inishbofin, Inishturk, Clare, Aran, Inishmaan, and Gorumna, with supply, maintinance and command bases on Achill and Inishmore. These have been grouped into what is being called the Galway Command.

In the south, Great Blasket, Inishvickilane, Clear, Dursey, An tOilean Mor, the town of Tooreenhave all had emplacements built with a base on Valencia Island. This area has been dubbed the Killarney Command.

Anti aircraft and anti ship weapons and radars have been built and tested and declared operational. Troops have already begun to move into the bases and take over contol duties. Permanent commanders have yet to be announced. The economies of these areas will be boosted as more stores and pubs will be needed to serve the needs of the soldiers and their families. One source estimates a boost of almost 75% in retail profits alone. Secretary Mulchahy also said that the Military Police units attached to the bases would be made available to support the local Garda if needed. Garda Commissioner Fachtna Murphy seemed pleased by the news. "Seeing more uniforms on the streets will do nothing but help in preventing crimes from happening. This is a good thing."

Meanwhile, the civilan workers have been offered positions to go to the north border to help get those defenses online. With the new nation to our north, there is some heightened concern over security in that area.

In toher news... fighting in the Americas seems to have ended for the most part... as has the dust up on the European mainland. Several new nations have come onto the scene there, and one of them communist. When told of this, President DeSchaine is reported to have ordered two dart boards for his office. One with the face of Karl Marx, and the other of Vladamir Lenin.

In sports... wait a second... umm... ladies and gentlemen, it appears the president is going to make a speech right now... please stand by...

Citizens... a few hours ago, a massive nuclear explosion was detected on the north east of the Euro continent. We as of yet do not know the extent of the damage or the effects of the fallout. I have decided to declare a state of emergency untill we have gather more information on weather conditions and the area to be affected. You will be seeing Military Police and Infantry units deployed to prearranged positions. We are NOT declareing a state of martial law, and will not do so unless it is needed. Please be calm and go about things as normal, unless you hear an official announcement from this office. Thank you.

Military commentary with Adam Royce

TNS Warder and MSTS Raven have been sent to the Northern Euro area to assist in rescue and cleanup operations. The 2nd/36th CBR Battalion is aboard the Raven and have already begun landing outside Helsinki. 1200 of our children have once again been sent into harms way because of some raving lunatic with his finger on a button controling Nuclear weapons. Weapons that have NO tactical purpose. The only purpose of these weapons is mass death and destruction. Thats why they're called WMD's.

When are the people of this world going to learn that these wont solve anything? I say stand up! Have your say to those that run your country! Its your God given RIGHT!

TORY ISLAND OFF LIMITS

Today, Taeunas armed forces closed off Tory island on the northern coast. Details from Secretary Mulcahy's office were sketchy at best, and the only clear comment was "the people that owned property on that island have been VERY well compensated."

Helicoptors and V-22's were seen flying from the mainland to the island and several small ships have anchored nearby.

Also in the north, Inch Island near Buncrana has gotten a new garrison. The facilities were completed only three days ago, and troops are already moving in.

Waterford and Co. today announced the closing of its Royal Doulton holdings. RD is a fine china manufacturing concern inside the UK. They will sell the property and equipment in the days to come, but will retain all rights to the name. This move was needed to keep all royalties from the use of the RD name and trademark.

In Dublin today, an odd sight. Well, more a rather disturbing sight as a man who was clearly bollixed decided to go for a jog through St. Stephens Green. Not uncommon you might say. True, the uncommon part was that the man was naked. Thats right, he was running in the nip. He ran out of the park and was lost before local Guarda could arrive. However, a few minutes later he was spotted in Merrion Square park, doing laps around the oval. At this point he was arrested. No word on charges.

Now a check of the weather... Outbreaks of rain extending to much of the southern half of the country this evening and early tonight but clearing again overnight. Otherwise clear spells and scattered showers, with the showers becoming mainly confined to western and northern areas as the night progresses. Lowest temperatures minus 2 to plus 3 degrees, with frost in many areas and patches of ice on untreated ground.

Cold and blustery tomorrow, with sunny spells and scattered showers. The showers will be heaviest and most frequent in the west and north, where some may be wintry or thundery. Highest temperatures 4 to 8 degrees.

The outlook over the weekend and for the early days of next week is for the unsettled weather to continue. The days will be cool or cold with bright or sunny spells and scattered showers but good dry spells in many areas also, especially in the east and southeast, though Sunday is likely to have more widespread showers. Some of the showers will be wintry also, especially on high ground. However spells of rain will affect the country from time to time and likely to fall as sleet or snow in places at first before turning back to rain - again high ground most at risk. The first of these spells of rain is expected Saturday evening or Saturday night, accompanied by fresh to strong southeast winds, and the second is expected later Monday or Monday night. The evening and nights will be cold with frost in places and risk of icy patches.

The government announced the lifting of restrictions on Taser type weapons. These can now be purchased and used by any Taeunas citizen. Formerly, they could only be used by Guarda and soldiers, but in recent weeks, the President has convinced the Senate to overturn this statute.

"These are a mostly non lethal alternitive for self defense means. I see no reason why the general public should not be allowed to use them. While out citizens are allowed to carry firearms for this purpose, we recognize that not everyone has the will in them to kill another human being. Yes, pepper spay and mace are effective, but are decidedly less so than dropping someone to their knees with 50,000 volts."

Many on all sides of the aisle consider this to be a good thing, as does the anti gun lobby.

"We feel that this is a positive step towards a safer, gun free country. People now have an altirnative. A Taser can be lethal, yes, but it is decidedly less so than a gun. Given this, we now feel there is no reason not to push legislation do ban civilian gun ownership."

When queried about this, chairman of the commitee for public safety had this to say:

"Those people were always a bit daft. We didnt do this to open the way to outlaw guns. They're mentaller if they think that'll happen anytime soon. The people wont allow it, and neither will we."

NEW SHIP LAUNCHED!

Today, after arriving home from a short trip the Baltic region, President DeSchaine baptised the latest ship to join the fleet. The TNS Richard Harris, a missile frigate, sailed out of Cork after having the traditional empty bottle (having been drunk by the ships Captain) shattered against the hull. It has joined the First Fleet, the Emerald Guardians.

Details of the presidents trip to Neo Franzharia and the Hansa are still under wraps, but highly placed sources have said that a treaty may be forth coming, even after the recently signed M.A.C. Accord. Rumor has it that President DeSchaine met with the Hansa Prime Minister to discuss this matter.

Also from the Baltic area... the peacekeeper troops sent to the Hansa after the nuclear disaster in the region have been ordered home. Troops began arriving at the new home base for the Third Division near Dundalk. Chem and Engineer units will be the last to leave so that they may finish as much as possible.

In Shannon today, a unit from the Domestic Threat Operations division of the Guardai raided a warehouse complex on the Shannon Freezone Industrial Estate. Inside they found several boxes of illegal weapons, and a massive amount of drugs.

They were discovered when agents entered the buildings at ten o'clock this morning with warrents stemming from a six month investigation that started with a drive by shooting in the Colbert area of Limerick.

23 year old Mike O'Riley was gunned down by three males in a blue BMW in a case of mistaken identity. Thanks to several pictures taken by bystanders with their cell phones, the Guardai were albe to find and apprehend the suspects.

Information found in the suspects phones and computers led the Gardai to the Shannon warehouses. Siezed in the raid were EUR 140,000 worth of cocaine, EUR 270,000 of herbal cannabis and 14lbs of heroin worth an estimated street value of EUR 2,000,000. Five people were arrested, with two in the hospital after a quick shootout with DTO agents.

Names and nationalities of the suspects captured, as well as the person that leased the warehouses, are not being released due to the ongoing investigation, but a source in the Foreign Ministry said this may have international reprecussions.

In other news... with President DeSchaine's announcement of the massive Mardis Gras party scheduled, costume shops have become the hottest places to shop. Sales of items connected to the inpromptu holiday have risen almost three percent.

The last of the Taeunas soldiers and cleanup crews arrived home today from the Hansa. According to some of them, the people of the Hansa were very grateful, and with the new treaty ratified in the Senate, it seems that Taeunas' international ties have started to grow.
