One substantial part of the game's politics is the election of senators. Though recently a lot of alliances have come to the conclusion that the political costs and ramifications of senate control aren't really worth it relative to the impact they actually have on gameplay. Alliances on the black team have made senate deals for less than 10 million in aid. Senators have became almost entirely symbolic.

I suggest that the power of senators be increased, as to save the importance of this area in the political realm of alliance interactions. Bring back notifications of team messages, and increase the number of sanctions (possibly remove the per senator cap and leave in just the cap of 30 per team). Right now sanctions are almost never used. The rare instances in which they are used all appear to be redundant efforts of rogue busting. Their power is too insignificant to be factored into wars, and even the recent rogue senator on purple was only able to sanction 5 nations. Having 5 nations either switch teams or wait to replace their trades is nothing more than a minor annoyance. Make senators useful again!

Edit to make things clearer:

Increase or remove sanction cap placed on individual senators
Bring back team message notifications.
